Keepin' it real fake, part CCXVII: Not even Obama can sell us on BlockBerry

The ad reads: "Obama have BlackBerry, I have BlockBerry." BlockBerry, of course, being haff-comm's Huawei K3-based WinMo 6.1 handset. This Storm 9500 KIRF packs a 460MHZ processor, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and supports 3G and EDGE. Some people's audacity, it seems, knows no limits.

I have to ask on every KIRF item: does it play Famicom games?
Seriously, this comment system SUX!! these replies were meant for the first comment string.
George Bush endorsed the WhyteBerry
Does it come with Obama? I could have very interesting conversations with that cellphone.
Someone talk to me....please....
The only down side is that the phone costs 4 trillion dollars initially and then has an 8 trillion dollar 4 year contract.
I'd tap that
I wonder how good this is compared to the real deal.
wow.. stupid blockberry with htc touchFLO 3D interface.

the question is does the screen click? otherwise it might be a halfway decent phone.
What's the problem in China??
Americans hate it, mostly.
Why else do they enjoy showing nothing but the most idiotic examples of Chinese products? It's not like every company in China makes knockoffs. In fact, most of the companies there design their own products, but they just never get shown here either because they're relatively unremarkable (Chinese flip phones anybody?) or because they don't reinforce a certain political/ethnic stereotype so often seen in popular media. Mainly, that Chinese people are somehow inferior.
I remember seeing Engadget report some actually innovative products from China some times ago, and people were automatically assuming there were problems with those products. That just made me sad.
I mean seriously, if every Chinese product contained lead/melamine/exploded, then why is it that China is still mainly populated by people that happen to be living? Or that Chinese life expectancy rose from like ~40 to ~60-70 in the last 60 years? Come on.
And please stop throwing around the "communist" thing around. China is communist in nothing but the name of its ruling party, and even the company that makes the shitty product seen here is privately owned. Communist or not has nothing has to do with this. Politics has nothing to do with this.
So unless you want to claim the genetic/cultural inferiority of the Chinese people, I really don't see the point of repeatedly posting these products.
Or, you know, they're trying to boost consumption of internally produced products in a depression. I guess that's likely too, but doing so by talking crap about other countries using biased evidence is still kind of a shady tactic to use, don't you think?
I solely meant these knock-off brands.
That's all O_o
@Gabe
Every engadget reader knows that there's a lot of quality products coming out of china such as the iPhone 3G S and most other cell phones on the planet, and that the crapgadgets section has nothing to do with them.
The Crapgadgets section is suposed to be a humorous off topic board. Like the CE Oh No He Didn't posts.
Not everything is supposed to be serious.
What if...and trust me, this is a BIG what if...what if they made a phone that literally had everything people have been clamoring for? Take the Best of Pre, iPhone, BB, and Gphone and put it all into one awesome phone. Would people pay the price?
Did anyone notice that the knockoff has wifi, while the real blackberry does not? LOL i would be embarrassed if i were the CEO of RIM.
Oh yeah, BLOCKberry. Everything is blocked in such a country, we love it, we enjoy it.
Google now become the target of authorities, check out CCTV NEWS.
First they rip off your phone. Then they rip off the image of a public figure (not necessary our president). Then top it off with a bad transliteration (in stead of using Harvard, they re-transliterate the chinese name of Harvard into Haff). Oh, boy!
holy pasta, Batman! Comments are flying around here more wild than Oprah Winfrey at a all you can eat sundae bar when she falls off the cart.
and that phone....is better than a lot of other phones that are being offered subsidized out there. Why not take that technology and make your own unique device and avoid embarrassment? I just don't get it...establish your own popular brand god damnit. Be a freaking entrepreneur; don't just rip people off and be a douche bag, I mean Blockberry??? Come F$#%ing ON!! fjd;skalfkl;
He hasn't sold me on anything to date, why would he sell me on a knock off phone?
Yay, GO BLACKBERRY.
HAFF-COMM ???? Is that a subsidiary of HAFF-AZZ YOB corp?
This is one of the funniest comment streams I have seen in a while. Let me see if I can summarize - the world is coming to an end because of Republican misdeeds, the Republicans are racist, and blindly follow the words of party leaders. The Democrats, on the other hand, are selling are children back into (financial) slavery to pay for the shortsighted, and often idiotic, decisions they are forcing upon the US today.
To be clear, I am a centrist, although I have certain views (pro-life) that disallow me to vote for 99% of all democrats. However, what I find amusing is both the underlying truths in both sides of the arguments, but more importantly, how it is always easier to bitch than get involved.
The entire nation benefited from the past decade's economy. If you think you didn't you were either not born, in a hospital, or brain dead. The economy was neither in the control of the President nor Congress, although there was clearly insufficient oversight. It's always easy to see that after the fact. Given that literally almost no one in the world did does not make the Republicans horrible people (at least not for this mess). However, a much better job could certainly have occurred, but private interest groups will always prevent that.
The current state of running down the street and throwing money in the air will eventually come back to bite us. It may be in repaying the huge loan, the increase in interest rates, or other economic evils. It will further hamstring our economy unless the stimulus is more than enough to push us out of the hole, which is possible, although not especially likely from where we are now. Having said that, and to echo other sentiments, there aren't a lot of great ideas out there other than "let the free markets work." While this is a very good idea in some areas of the economy, allowing massive negative changes to the stability of the banking system and the economy needs to be avoided as much as possible.
So, what to do? For starters, don't buy a Blockberry because it probably doesn't work, violates much of that for which America stands, and certainly won't help the US. Secondly, as a consumer/voter, start buying those things you've been holding off on purchasing. I've heard 3 economists in the past 4 weeks say the recession has ended, and we are starting to move up (and now the newspapers are getting it). Thirdly, stop reading all the news. Whether or not you realize it, we all internalize what we read/hear/discuss all the time, to the point we cannot see or think clearly. A little accurate, non-biased news (try the WSJ without the editorials) goes a long way. Finally, get off your butts. Any pansy with a 1/2 brain can complain. Take some action. Start that business. Run for local government. Help out at a homeless shelter. Make America stronger in some way. You will receive what you give one hundred fold.
Shouldn't it be a Barack Berry?
Damnit, Jim! This ain't Japan!
It has probably already been said, but due to the great amount of bickering, I got tired of reading through the comments.
"I am Barack Obama, and I approve this message."
Block-Berry...
That is the funniest name I have seen yet....
My god... All Engadget has to do is mention Obama in one way or another and this place mutates into a political butthurt festival
To the anti-government conspirators... Obama is the last person you should be worried about. Get off your racist high horse, he is helping not hurting.
It's first market will be Pockistan. Everyone knows as citizens of the world we should all pronounce our a's like ahhhhs the way Obahma does. See, even his name is ahh.
The Blockberry, very clever actually.
hopefully this pops up on dealextreme so i can snag one hassle free!
Africon-Americon Berry is the preferred nomenclature.
WTF
Fail thread is fail.
Obama endorsing money changer.

the country producing this model pronounces it
"Brahck behwee"
thus the confusion.
Must...stop...political...bickering....geek energy dying...but how? - Rant!
Its a fucking fake phone for fucks sake, a fucking phone with a fucking ripped off "endorsement" picture
Not a fucking political fucking statement it is a fucking fake phone
Feel better now
Prolly banned now too :(
Hi I was wondering if anyone has actually seen this phone for sale. I am in Beijing right now and I am interested in buying one. My father works for RIM and he wants one for analyzing purposes so I was wondering if anyone knew where to actually get one.
Thanks
