Zune HD has a Tegra processor, confirms official Zune podcast
You can stop wondering what exactly is powering the new Zune HD. On the official Zune Insider podcast, host Matt Akers confirmed the rumors: yep, it's rocking a Tegra. No surprise, that announcement came with a heap of praise for NVIDIA's chip, so much so it's almost painful to listen. "So sick, so much better battery life, graphics acceleration. This thing is like a mini laptop in your hand, right, it's so awesome." We'll have to see about that for ourselves (in September, maybe?), but we are indeed encouraged by the news. Hear it for yourself just below.

iPod touch fans are jealous of the Zune??
Awesome.
I really don't see what's there to be jealous about. I suggest saving this page, then returning to it 1 year after this Z.HD is released and see what really took place. I bet nothing much.
people buy ipods just like why people by windows PC's, its just what you're used to. Can't MS market the zune towards a small 10% market that doesn't want an ipod b/c everyone has them and wants to be different? Kind of the same exact thing that Apple does with OS X, caters to a small market that doesn't want to buy windows PC's. I highly doubt that MS thinks this will outsell the ipod, just like Apple doesn't plan on OS X outselling windows anytime soon. I've had 3 ipods, all of them either crapped out and got stolen by an idiot or just got stolen from me during a party, so I tried a zune and happened to like it, big woop. Its lasted 3 years and I plan on buying the new zune HD, you can at least respect the people that don't want to have what 90% of the PMP market has who will buy a zune.
um all u bashing the device b/c of the 'e' in marketplace:
they did it on purpose to allude to the fact that the device is smaller than the big features it offers. Also it's a touch device. You know for your fingers. Go ahead and bash them for using a list UI instead of icons, but microsoft's trying to keep true to their UI, and didn't want to have the device have a stylus. Ever used one? My hand has never been in so much pain.
Sincerely,
Zune@heart
P.S.
all u iDiots:
go screw urselves
It would have been rather hard to use a stylus on a capacitive touchscreen, mainly because normal styli don't work.
Though I agree with you that people are bashing the Zune HD for no good reason.
We should at least wait until it's released to see what there is to criticise it for, because there will be something to bash it for :P. Nothing is perfect after all.
doesn't mean a damn since the software is still rubbish. I've enjoyed the 80GB Zune Hardware since it's launch but the software makes it an overall miserable experience w/ no 3rd party alternative.
Hopefully, MS will release this and the Zune marketplace or whatever it's called in at least all EU countries.
Also, MS we'd like some Xbox Live over here in Eastern Europe too, thanks.
Because of the way they went with licensing, zune and xbox live probably won't launch in other countries. They'd have to get equivalents worked out and I'm not sure if the zune marketplace's drm music extends outside the US. Plus with the way Europe just fined them, it probably isn't the top of their list.
Well, they got fined for Internet Explorer, and licensing the games in other EU countries shouldn't be that hard, especially when they have the incentive of more money driving them. They can keep music and movie downloads, the games are important:P And here in Romania, there aren't actually any laws regarding digital distribution, from what I can recall, so it might actually be easier for them
Microsoft it's stupid. The only think that's missing is phone capability.
That would hit Apple in the face...
The official podcast is no worst then Endgadget podcast. I am sorry but I just can't listen to that tech podcast at all. The guys that host it sux so bad. Need some Leo Laporte school of podcast training.
Can't wait. Definitely will purchase. To go with my Cowon players.
It is rather amusing to hear that they used a podcast, to announce a new Zune. I suppose you just don't reach as broad an audience if you're zunecasting.
It IS rather amusing! Ho ho ho! Why, I nearly spilt my glass of sherry all over my exquisite iPod Touch! Dear me, the vapours, the vapours! We'd never have had this spectacle under Thatcher, by Jove!
Really they announced a new Zune in the podcast? When? I must have missed that part.
@Zune HD - Tegra is full of promise... this is a very exciting revalation. The Zune HD is finally going to be setting benchmarks instead of playing catch-up.
@Engadget - Could you have put even the tiniest bit of effort into sounding unbiased against MS? This post is as biased as your article about MS giving Windows Mobile users an "FU" for putting superior hardware on the Zune.
I know you have to pay the man who gives you those sleek laptops, but does that mean you have to dog their competitors, too?
Shake. Sit. Roll over. Good boy.

I have to ask, why do the iPOD people care about any other units? Msoft has said they are not dropping the Zune, and are preparing a Zune phone and the new Zune HD, the question is why do you care? The Zune has better sound then the iPOD - simply put it does - bigger screen and cheaper music. With all that said I don't care what you use. I know I have a better music player then an iPOD. But if you want to use a lesser player you go right ahead. I don't care, why do you?
as of yet no zune phone, but i heard that Verizon and MS have something in the works
Wow, that was so painful to listen to? I seriously braced myself... gtfo.
OMG the E on Marketplace is cut off!!!
Seriously folks, this is an early piece of hardware. Do you think, just maybe that it will be addressed with font resize on the screen before it's released? I'm glad this is one of the most talked about issues, to me that bodes well for its future.
dude look @ my previous post.
really geese
ok...i listened to the entire podcast and i didn't hear them talk about the ZuneHD at all... anyone know if this was taken out or something?
By the way I'm looking at it, "Marketplace" DOES fit on the screen. The screen is recessed and you just can't see that edge. I have an iPod touch which I payed over $500 (CAD) for and I'm going to replace it with this for a couple of reasons. The ipod touch is super laggy, that may just be because I jailbroke it but regardless it is very frustrating, I have high hopes for the Tegra. I find now that I never use the apps anymore besides calendar, music, mail, and occasionally safari. The games are fun, but I don't have time to play them and besides, an iPod touch game does not compare to a console or pc game, the touch interface is annoying. I cannot stand iTunes (although I hear Zune software isn't much better). Anyways, those are my reasons, I have my opinions of Apple although I won't voice them, all I can say is I am glad to remove any of their hardware from my possession and give Microsoft a try.
ok scratch that, the "e" doesn't fit on the screen, but who the hell cares, I'm sure they will fix it.
To this point I have not been a huge zune fan, however my interest is now on full alert based on the recent announcement of the zune hd and now the confirmation of the tegra processor. My interest comes from the perspective that I hope many or all of the zune hd technologies make it into windows mobile 7. Let's see what happens!
