Giant Cowboys Stadium LED wall caught playing Xbox 360 during downtime Update: Video!

The 72 x 160-foot LED wall at the center of the new Cowboys Stadium is certainly impressive enough when it's showing game highlights or concert footage, but no giant screen ever truly earns its credentials until it's been put to some real use: playing video games. Thankfully, Jonas Brothers video director Steve Fatone somehow pulled himself away from concert preparations to do just that earlier this week, and apparently became the first person to ever play Xbox 360 on the display in the process. As you can see above and in the gallery below, the two certainly seem to be made for each other, although it looks like the controller can get a tad touchy if you stray too far while trying to play it.
Update: Our man Steve hooked us up with a video of the rig in action -- head after the break to check it out.

Coolest. Thing. Ever.
Gonna be there for the All-Star game!
Speechless
that is so epic
My computer froze trying to watch the video. It's so epic..........Too epic some might say.
Awesome!
Can you say
The Way It's Meant To Be Played
That is awesome. I wonder how much it cost in electricity to run that giant screen.
Their necks must hurt.
so much win!
fire up so pornos baby.
@steve
sorry, wrong console. The xbox is powered by ATi.
WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAMN! I which I had the opportunity to do that LMAO..... Thats must be amazing! I would love to get my HALO3 or Killzone2 on, on that thing!
now if he were to play wii on it, would it be better to put the sensor bar above or below the screen?
at least if you let go of the wii-mote it wouldn't smash the screen
I don't think it would make a difference, the stretched mass of pixels would be indiscernible either way.
Remember that famous mac/apple superbowl add where the jumbo screen gets smashed by the hammer? that's what happens if you play wii on this.
Next year we should see them using with Project Natal with the whole Cowboys team inside the screen playing NFL 2010/2011 as training
Videoprove must be delivered!
...you want fries and english with your order?
Please. Make it Supersize.
Proof indeed. Though the proof I'd like to see is just where in the hell the RCA inputs are for this screen?? Its not like its got 'easy-access' ports on the side of the monitor. Chances are the xbox was half a mile away buried in a subterranean control room with no windows and hundreds of video screens.
Give me a 30" 1080p display over this, any day of the week, even Saturday.
they where able to use fiber and put the xbox and controller right in the seats. It was not looking up. It was looking straight in front.
No thanks, I have 30 inch displays at home. a 30 foot (30'), now I would take that for a Blu-ray movie any day!
:-)
Wow, just imagine curb-stomping someone on that huge screen!
I wonder how many friend requests SoneAF1015 is going to get after this event/post.
I was just thinking the same thing. Talk about giving up privacy.
Jonas Brothers!? Eeeeewww.... Just like Hannah Montana.
Except male. No wait... no. You're right.
sure it is... at $40 million, 600-tons, 60 yards long and 72 feet tall. Its win alright, but its measurable :)
that was for B3astofthe3ast a few post down..Er
The screen is almost as large as their ego!
I would sit on the ledge at the bottom and play.
sweetie, you're sitting too close to the tv.
oh man, i live just a few miles from the stadium. they need to rent that out!
I live in Arlington too - and I would LINE UP to pay for 15 minutes of game time in the stadium. Don't know what game I'd run, but a FPS for sure.
"I have a fence stuck in my cheek!"
My knees are weak.
Best get that checked out.
I bet you that screen got a RRoD after playing it lol
The screen does not RROD the xbox does and it does not matter what screen...
you obviously didn't get my joke =S
no one did
No, you didn't.
That is an immeasurable amount of win.
In fact, it's actually 11,520 square feet of win.
in fact or actually pick one
Or Infactually!
I would like to see a video of it to see the framerate.
Er, what about the framerate of the camera recording it, and the framerate of the codec use to compress the video for the web? How are you going to determine the actual framerate once it's been filtered through all that?
@Decoy
I think he means showing the framerate on the actual screen, like Fraps does on a computer. The way you described it is just complicating everything, but i don't if you can view the framerate on a 360.
that is so damn beautiful.
The real question is.... Does how awesome doing this is make up for the fact that he has to listen to the Jonas Brothers all day?
No. No it doesn't.
going to agree with jon on this one. id rather not play that then have to listen to those bags of douche. but it is AWESOME non the less
That guy is about to get alot of friend requests. :P
Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe that was his plan...
Also loses a cool point for such a low Xbox gamer score. :O

wouldve been much more impressive to see killzone 2 or uncharted 2 but a good pick nonetheless
thats sick ;]
should have used a ps3 the controller would have reached
but then there'd only be like 2 games that you'd want to show off. trust me. I wasted 400 bucks on one.
and 30ft. bluetooth = 30ft. bluetooth. they're both run on the same tech. the only difference is that the ps3 can have 7 (yeah.. figure that one out) controllers connected and the xbox can have only 4.
During E3 Tretton, a Sony exec, said during his presentation that only the PS3 could drive such large screens. From Engadget's live blog at http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/02/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-sonys-e3-2009-keynote/
11:15AM The screen is 40x80' "and only the PlayStation 3" can push that many pixels Jack assures us.
Here we have the 360 driving a much larger screen, I guess Tretton lied.
The physical size of the screen says nothing about the number of pixel, which would be limited by hardware, but he still may have lied.
@zomg0t
That is the point, I laughed when I read the live blog. The size of the screen does not make any difference in the amount of pixels that need to be driven. A 20 inch 1080 display has the same number of pixels as a 72x160 foot 1080 display. However, if we use Tretton's standard, a 360 is nearly 4X as powerful as a PS3 since this display is nearly 4X as large as the one they used during the E3 talk.
The 7 devices is because the Bluetooth in the PS3 has 8 possible addresses. 1 for the controller itself (presumably device 0), and then up to 7 other connections: controllers, headsets, etc. The controllers are made to light up from 1-7, with 5-7 being 4+1, 4+2, and 4+3.
The resolution of the screen is only relevant if the device is outputting at its native resolution. In this case, Halo 3 is being rendered at 1024x640 and then scaled to 720p or 1080p by the 360's video scaler. The TV hardware then handles the rest.
The thing you linked to clearly says only the PS3 can drive that many "pixels" clearly he's not talking about screensize but resolution, so why are you talking about height x width?
O.M.F.G.
Needs Rock Band
The A/V lag would be so atrocious, it would make it unplayable, as awesome as it would be.
The Screen! Then the speaker system! AND NO NEIGHBORS TO SEND YOU A NOISE COMPLAINT!
I WOULD ROCK THE HOUSE DOWN!
People would come to see me over the jonas brothers!
Your tax dollars at work...
How so?
@Sam
The city of Arlington fronted around $350 million to build the stadium.
The Jonas Brothers paid to play there. I'm pretty sure Arlington wouldn't mind some video game shenanigans if they were getting paid for it.
GoRemi lives there
Won the internet.
well, if you live near dallas you would know(like i do) channel 8 news along with a lot of ppl petitioning against this did not want this because it costed the city a tremendous amount of money as well as tax increases, although it might bring more ppl to our area right?
Your post makes me think that they should take the money and funnel it into the schooling programs instead.
I agree. Perhaps they should have "spended" more money on education.
Cities often think that building a stadium can revive an area. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Take DC for example. We built the Nats stadium... it's a beautiful stadium, but the area it was built in (called the 'ballpark district') still hasn't really taken off. I'll walk around it without feeling unsafe now, but there really isn't much there besides the Nats stadium and a couple of restaurants. Part of the problem is the Nats are terrible, so there aren't many people going there. And the stadium's about the only attraction there, so when there aren't games going on it's a bit of a ghost neighborhood. They could start using the stadium for entertainment I guess, but the Verizon Center already takes care of that. Outdoor venue? Could be.
Or maybe the Nats need to start playing better.
I hear you, most of the stadiums I've been to the area around them isn't so great.
I know the stadium workers play Halo on the giant LED screen at Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia Eagles, baby!!) during the offseason. I took a tour a couple of years ago and they were talking about how crazy it is up on the giant screen.
Hey, I said no screen looking!
why are there shots of different games on there? i know i havent played gears in a while (360 was stolen. now i have to suffer the ps3) but i thought it was a 3rd person shooter. those are all first person shooter pics....
He played himself some Halo 3 and what looks to be World at War. Though I could very easily be wrong on the second game.
Lies. Who would steal a Xbox instead of a PS3? My homeboy buys use xbox 360's for 80 bucks but gives up to 110 for a Ps3 (he works at a pawn shop), who would steal a xbox and leave a Ps3. Thieves would have took both console no? I mean, I now this is an xbox 360 topic but didn't know xbox fanbois are that dumb.
"didn't know xbox fanbois are that dumb"
Please reread your post and then try to convince me to believe you on this statement.
Wonder if it was connected to the stadium speakers, now that would be kick ass for sure
Blu-Ray porn on that screen would look nice...
Imaxxx
Play Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe. I Know You Have it SoneF1015,
I checked your Gamercard.
University of Washington Housing had a big end of the year bash in Husky Stadium two of the years I was in college and they had a halo tourney that had the finalists playing on HuskyTron in the stadium. It was pretty awesome!
EPIC games, indeed.
Should of Been a PS3... then watch a Blu-ray on it.. or play better games.. lol
But still, thats pretty epic
Better game? Ha.
The 360 HD-DVD drive is just as good quality as Blu-Ray.
