Worried that Apple might not be doing so well? Concerned the company will have to start breaking open the collective piggy banks to keep the lights on? Well rest easy, friends, as the folks in Cupertino have just issued a compelling piece of PR that will surely put your mind at ease -- one stating it managed to move
a million iPhone 3G S units over the weekend. That's right, in a fashion
not completely dissimilar to last year's iPhone 3G launch (though with far less
hiccups), bucketloads of happy buyers flooded Apple's coffers with sweet, delicious cash money for the new smartphone. The buying frenzy was apparently even exciting enough to rouse recovering CEO Steve Jobs from his
convalescent state. The seemingly-now-returned honcho is quoted (for the first time in months) in the press release as saying "Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning." Winning indeed Steve... and welcome back.
Use the google cloud...it's free, does the same thing, and has more interfaces for more mobile and desktop devices. Oh, and it actually works too :-)
I am using google cloud now and i have to admit it is not always 100% reliable. For example, calendar sync often does not work. I also had some trouble with the email.
Don't you love when people prove money buys happiness?
fat idiots
Steve's liver transplant is a good example of why their laptops should have removable batteries.
You never know when they are going to fail or you need a new one.
yuck yuck yuck ;-)
WTF
That's not a really good comparison or example.
First of all, his liver is not easily removable. It's as "built-in" as something can be. You need a freaking surgeon to do it.
Likewise, the current built in battery is not removable but as long as a guy has a screw driver they can open it up and change it. It's actually more accessible than Steve's liver...much more.
Second of all, your organ is something that should NOT be easily removable. You are crazy if you think you should have the ability to constantly open up and access your organs.
This is really sick, man
That's it. I'm moving to China.
Dude, the Apple Haters aren't touching this article with a ten foot pole. They know they've been owned.
hey guys
to counter the "ATT won't allow me to upgrade for a decent price" well Apple is sending 3GS owners a 200 dollar check and if you had issues with the activiation they will also send you another 30 dollars. So is a win win for the consumer thanks to apples refund.
Anyone know how many countries were involved in this #?
I mean all the press releases (ALL of them) say that it out sold the 3G last year, "considering the 3G was sold in 22 (or 21 in some articles) countries". But they fail to mention how many countries were in this round, though all the article make it sound like just the US (if so, I'm impressed, though considering you can get a iPhone in Walmart and online).
8 countries
Hate or love it, Apple is doing something right. All the hates won't stop them from being the best. Trash talk and point out the iPhone flaws won't change people decisions at buying the new iPhone 3GS.
So, to all the Apple haters on this site, shut the F*** up, and move on when you see Engadget posts something related to the iPhone.
The best? Nope, not even in the US. That would be the BB Curve my friend. And in terms of global sales, I think we can all LOL @ Apple.
I'm just amazed that people actually pay this kind of money for phones in general. After all, when it comes down to it, that's what they all are in the end, a phone. :P
it's more a computer than phone
Hmm he looks like Manny from Grand Theft Auto IV
5 out of the 6 people in that pic are obese. Looks like they're also fanboys of twinkies.
For those who doubt about the number, go into any store that sells Iphone 3GS and ask if any in stock. The answer will be no. And for the upgrades, everyone has different needs or tastes in a phone. So when comparing features add "for me" at the end of your sentence.
I played w/ one over the weekend at my local AT&T store.
Wonderful interface, maps and browser are top notch, compass is useful.
However the lack of tactile input is a total deal breaker for me.
Can someone please tell me why Apple just doesn't let all networks sell the iPhone rather than a crappy AT&T, wouldn't they sell more iPhones that way??????
If you recall, Apple had steep requirements for the carriers before Apple would enter the wireless market. Talks failed with Verizon because they wouldn't do visual voice mail like Apple wanted. The carrier needed to relinquish control to Apple and ATT was the only one that would cave. Everybody joked about it being typical Apple control freakness, but now look how things have evolved. ATT allowed Apple to enter the marketplace, and now ATT is the control freak. Apple probably also signed exclusivity contract with ATT in the USA, to.
Couldn't agree more...
A significant amount of revenue comes to Apple through AT&T subscriptions (they get a %). This revenue stream would vanish if they didn't have an exclusivity agreement with AT&T.
Here in Asia, iPhones are sold unlocked and separate from any carrier agreement. Users select a phone, then select a carrier. Would be nice if the US could move in this direction.
I can vouch for those sales numbers because my dumb a$$ bought one lol. I love it, it's what the iPhone should have been. Now I'm just waiting on mms from Att. By the way the only thing I use is the browser, iPod and the alarm.
Wow, sometimes you gotta just give it to Apple
I have a growing hunch that Steve Jobs is going to randomly keel over one of these days. There have been WAY too many reports of him being sick and losing what little hair he has left.
CNBC confirms Apple CEO Steve Jobs returned to work today:

lame
It's great news for Apple that we learn Steve Jobs has been out of commission with a liver transplant the same weekend we learn new iPhone sales exceed expectations by 33-50%. Shows that Apple is headed in the right direction. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com
I like some Apple products, my MBP for instance, and the iPhone. But, these tards making gang signs out in front of Apple stores across the nation aren't doing us any good here.
I like how everybody uses the reply on the first comment to post their own comment despite the lack of relevance.
