Ultrasn0w iPhone 3G unlock for 3.0 is 0ut
Have at it kids, the iPhone Dev-Team's Ultrasn0w unlock for legacy iPhone 3G owners is ready. The unlock works with the original iPhone as well but not the iPhone 3GS; for that you'll have to be patient. Hit the read link to get started on your eight-step program to carrier independence. No donuts or coffee but at least it's free.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Hello everyone,
I am in Mauritius and just unlocked my iPhone on 3.0 using Ultrasn0w.
I was able to enable tethering but I am not able to activate MMS. I have well entered all the infos of my carrier but I still don't have the option in Messages.
Can somebody help me?
Thanks
Did you come from a previously unlocked Iphone on Tmobile using Yellow sn0w? If you did then I can upgrade my 2.2 Iphone to 3.0 and unlock w/ ultrasn0w. I hope to get an answer soon thanks again!
Sad and pathetic. Other countries have been enjoying unlocked iPhones out of the box, officially sold by Apple, while we in the US have to resort to hacking.
Do you really think your all alone on the planet?
Apple has maybe 50 official carriers where they have exclusivity agreements. The only reason why they have to sell the phone unlocked is due to fair competitor laws. US and EU (for example) should raise their voices.
The AT&T agreement does not give fair competition, nor do the Palm Pre agreement Sprint has. It only creates a monopoly that it not in the best interests of consumers - something our lovely governments should stop...
so you want to tell companies that they aren't allowed to have exclusivity deals with other companies? is it the government's job or right to do that to privately owned entities?
@Dayne: I'm not against exclusivity. I'm against provider locking a device. For example, in Singapore, the iPhone is sold exclusive on Singtel, but it is not provider locked. It is unlocked out of the box. I mean think about it, you're already going to commit 2 years to AT&T. Why does the phone have to be provider locked? Would you buy a PC that has its internet access locked to Comcast? Would you buy a regular telephone that is locked to Qwest? Provider locking is anti-competitive. Will AT&T reduce your monthly bills after the 2 year contract since you finish "paying off" the phone? Nope. Will AT&T unlock the iPhone after the 2 year contract? Nope. That is anti-competitive. Ever wonder why US wireless market sucks so bad? (Ask anybody outside the US about the logic behind paying for incoming calls/SMS).
@pika2000
I agree to a point. I do believe that you should be able to use a phone on whichever service you want to. Especially if you're paying the "unsubsidized" price for the phone. What I am against is legislation that impedes a company's ability to have those sorts of arrangements. That is a slippery slope. It's our job as consumers to tell companies like AT&T not to lock phones (good luck arguing with Ma Bell), and tell companies like apple that we don't like their choice of agreement partners. We do have to take some blame for being too lazy and/or being happy little sheep.
after installing the repo in cydia and turned off my phone as instructed now it wont turn on again. be careful!!!!!
Just wait for the boot up its a long boot happend to me too
I have never tried any of this before. I am selling my 2G cause I got the 3G S and a co-worker wants to buy it and use the 2G on T-mobile. I have it already running OS 3. What do I have to do to unlock it for him?
I went to those websites and nothing really told me what version jailbreaks and which version unlocks. Anyone help me?
Appreciated.
here's what you do,
update the 2G to 3.0 (if you haven't done this yet)
1. Jailbreak the 2G using redsn0w
2. add the ultrasn0w repository in Cydia
3. install ultrasn0w via Cydia
4. Reboot the 2G
5. ??????
6. Profit!!!
Bravo.
What is the status of the Ipod Touch 2g 3.0 jailbreak?
redsnow does that already
Yeah, get the new redsnow 7.2 or 7.1, whichever it is.
Quick and easy.
Unlock voice control please
How about instead of worrying about unlocking the iPhone you just go to whatever network you wish to be with and buy their best phone?
Shouldn't you be taking Aglearn calls instead of worrying about people worrying about unlocking their iphones? ;)
I understand this is cool for people who can't get AT&t or don't want to, but in the U.S. why would you not? I used to have T-Mobile and they have less coverage and were around the same price if you want a data package... Plus no rollover...
One word: Travel.
Mine was done in a jiffy. So easy even a caveman can do it.
I think a flow chart would help people figure out which Dev-Team software is what they need...

Got my 3.0 iPhone 3G working with the new Ultrasn0w! It's awesome not having to reboot the phone when you swap sims with this compared to Yellowsn0w.
For those using 2.21 still on your iPhone 3G keep using Yellowsn0w with your 02.28.00 baseband. if you upgraded to 02.30.XX then search for the baseband downgrader in cydia to see if you can downgrade. **NOTE** after you download the program you can download Yellowsn0w and the Yellowsn0w toggle for bossprefs without having to reboot your phone**. the downgrader program runs as an app from the home screen and will check to see if you can do the downgrade and perform the action automatically to 02.28.00 but you must reboot the phone after it is done. When your phone comes back on you can go into bossprefs, make sure 3g is off, remove old sim and insert new, turn on the yellowsn0w toggle and then reboot your phone. after the phone comes back on it'll have your carrier display on the top left. to go back to your main carrier just swap the sims and turn off yellowsn0w and reboot. after the phone comes back on then you can optionally turn on 3g.
Hope this helps for some of you!
I have read that you have to turn 3G off to use Tmobile. So you are saying you can turn 3g back on and use a tmobile data plan?
Hello all, Can you unlock a jailbroken iPhone that HAS NO SERVICE?
Unlock instructions and video walkthrough here: http://www.iclarified.com/4253
Great work Dev-Team can't wait to go home and unlock my phones!!!
Finally.
Thank you iPhone-Dev team, I love you.
The only reason I'd need to unlock would be if I were to travel internationally, I'd get a "local" cell phone on PAYG and pop that sim into my iPhone - anyone here ever tried that to any level of success?
Any unlocking tools ready so I can use my Pre on AT&T. Just born to be a cellphone renegade.
I already jailbroke my 2G. I don't wanna upgrade to 3.0 via itunes. It might end up like an ibrick. Is there any other way? can I just connect to cydia from 2.2.1 firmware to upgrade to 3.0
Ok so mainly this is for ppl outside the US then it seems....
For the life of me I was trying to figure out why anyone would unlock to go off ATT in the states. Is ATT really that bad?
I was also trying to find a cheaper solution (voice + data) on an unlocked iPhone but I cant find anything cheaper than ATT's plan.
T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon, etc....they all cost about $100/month
I want to unlock and use my iphone as a tether device but data plans (in US) are so expensive.
This is a little bit off topic but I want to find out if anyone was able to use PDANET to tether their laptops after ugrading to 3.0 + jailbreak. Thanks for your response. :-)
Hi. I'm planning to buy an iPhone 3g from a person who bought it in US 2008. Its locked to AT&T. Will I be able to unlock it with Ultrasn0w?
So if i have a unlocked 2G iphone on 2.2 software can i upgrade it to 3.0 nd unlock it with this and be able to still use my t-mobile service in it like i am now?

need help here guys, newbie talkin. I got an Old iphone 2g, unlocked. And now, I want to jailbreak it, will I lose my unlock if I jailbreak it? please help.
For people still suffering the ultrasn0w "No Service" issue:
My iPhone 3G was still flaky and often yielding "No Service." After some more Googling, I found a random comment on a forum about old 5-volt SIM cards working more reliably for ultrasn0w'd iPhones than newer 3-volt SIMs.
So I removed the Gevey-3G SIM cracker that I'd had in my iPhone since I first got it an unlocked it on the 2.2 firmware. This had been necessary in the yellowsn0w era. Being a pass-thru device, I figured its resistance would up the voltage for the SIM circuit.
I removed it and rebooted. Now strong signal, with no "No Service" errors!
Small miracles of logic...
