ASUS G60 gaming laptop rolls out, gets examined
Eye-catching paint job aside, ASUS's new G60 "Republic of Gamers" gaming laptop may not seem all that different from the company's previous G50 model at first (or second) glance, but there are indeed a few somewhat notable differences both inside and out. Perhaps the most significant is a new 16-inch screen which, in addition to being ever so slightly larger than the previous 15.4-incher, also packs a full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Otherwise, you can expect to get a Core 2 Quad processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 1TB of storage from the dual hard drives, GeForce GTX 260M graphics, and a Blu-ray drive, to name but a few expectedly high-end specs. Still no official word on a release over here, but it looks like folks in the UK will be able to pick this one up in September for £1,500, or just under $2,500. In the meantime, you can hit up the links below for a closer look.

E C S Sucks @ Jun 25th 2009 7:38PM
Should have made the screen at least 16:9. 15.6 0r 16 inch.
DonatoM3 @ Jun 25th 2009 7:47PM
Isn't that what they did? 16.0inches 1920x1080 resolution. That's 16:9.
E C S Sucks @ Jun 25th 2009 8:08PM
/I must have missed it I saw 15.4 instead of 16. My fault. I wonder why there is both 15.4 and 16 inch. Not a big difference. My apologies.
Chris @ Jun 26th 2009 9:08PM
They replaced the 15.4 with the 16. Common man it's not that much to read.

They could do what Crave did, a tribute to MJ through a list of his video games.

This looks great, but if you can't wait to get an Asus with the new 260gtx gpu call your local Best Buy. Just visited my nearest Best Buy in San Jose and they have the new Asus G51VT in stock. Specs are basic;
Intel 7450 CPU
4 gb DDR2
DVD-RW
Nvidia 260GTX
15.6" WXGA (same as previous G50vt)
Basically the same as the previous G50, but with the new GPU. Best Buy has yet to update their website, but from what I gathered from the geek squad and in store sales folks a whole slew of new laptops come out tomorrow. The debut coincides with the new Windows 7 upgrade vouchers. New laptops from Asus, Hp, and Sony should find their way to store shelves tomorrow at some point. If you want the updated G51, call you local Best Buy and ask them to check their inventory and not the website.
Oh, and the price for the G51vt is $999.99 before tax and warranty.
DR House @ Jun 25th 2009 8:01PM
999$ for a laptop with GTX260m is hard to believe :/
Dusty @ Jun 25th 2009 11:11PM
Is it possible to purchase a Asus G51VT in Canada? Any links of this info on the Asus G51VT? I cannot find anything... Thx
Ryan @ Jun 26th 2009 3:29AM
Yup saw the same thing at my local bestbuy store. I have the G50vtx5 from bestbuy, its an awesome computer. I'm a bit upset that the G50 has a 1366 x 768 resolution. It still looks great, but just makes it more difficult when running a second monitor that uses 1440x900
The G50 has something called direct console that lets you overclock the processor instantly (even mid game) and change the exterior lights. I asked about it at bestbuy and they said that the model did not support over clocking like the others did. I think thats false info, but in my 15 minute search through the computer I couldn't find any asus program that lets you over clock.
The processor runs at 2.0 ghz, instead of 2.24 ghz that the G50 runs at. The one at bestbuy had a gt 230m which does not outmatch the 9800m GTS at all. Kinda glad I didn't wait a month for this one.
TheAcolyte @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:00AM
check the link i posted. it has the real specs for everything.
Vinnie @ Jun 25th 2009 8:09PM
What do you mean, no certain release date? I just displayed one yesterday (I work at Best Buy). =]
Dusty @ Jun 25th 2009 8:09PM
Good thing I didn't purchase a G50VT series a month ago...???
Wheres the news about N81VP-D1??? :) The C1 models are discontinued for D1, anyone have news?
Christian G @ Jun 25th 2009 9:26PM
If the LCD isn't 120Hz, it's not worth it.
RLBurkes @ Jun 25th 2009 9:36PM
Word up, I'd agree if only I played first person shooter games in a competitive way. 120Hz should be the stand these days main.
RLBurkes @ Jun 25th 2009 9:30PM
If the HDD's aren't 22000 RPM's it isn't worth it.
Christian G @ Jun 25th 2009 9:34PM
If you would be playing first person shooter games online in a competitive way, you'll be sure to agree with my point.
demonicman93 @ Jun 25th 2009 11:01PM
i don't think that refresh rates rly do much, its more the response time. u want fast ones like 5 ms for gaming. this is a good deal tho. 260m for like 999.
champmarket @ Jun 26th 2009 12:25AM
the post "ASUS G60 gaming laptop rolls out, gets examined" is good. it's an update information.

I wan't this laptop :( .. but i just bought the P-7805u from Gateway. 9800M GTS < 260M
:(
Brown Robott @ Jun 26th 2009 2:40AM
Looks awesome. If this has a Core 2 Quad processor, I'm getting one for my dog.
Kebab in Korea @ Jun 26th 2009 3:25AM
Its so bloody stupid to give a gaming laptop a 1920x1080 resolution. All that does is drop the framerates down so you'd have too run non native on certain games e.g. arma2.
If they had those specs but at 1280 x 800 you would see much better results.
Wewtaco @ Jun 27th 2009 11:10PM
FINALLY, a gaming laptop that's not ugly as hell!
TheAcolyte @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:56AM
so here is the link to the best buy model.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366651&st=G51&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218092150636
has anyone found a way to buy the higher end specs version anywhere else?
TheAcolyte @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:42AM
i found a site to preorder and fully customize an ASUS G51 notebook. all the highend stuff. it can get a little more expensive though. pretty good all around for the standard 1600 price tag.
