HP outs healthy slew of new Pavilion / Compaq Presario desktops
Seems that HP got all the laptop love out of its system yesterday, as today were having a foursome of new desktops shoved down our throats. First up is the Pavilion Slimline s5000, which gets going at $289 and includes an AMD LE1600 CPU, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320GB hard drive, 6-in-1 media card reader and a case that should be small enough for most dorm room corners. Next, there's the all-too-similar $269 Pavilion p6000, while the $599+ Pavilion Elite e9000 offers up a larger case along with an AMD Phenom II X2 545 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 500GB HDD, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G210 CPU and a 15-in-1 card reader. Finally, the $379 Compaq Presario CQ5000 ships with a 2.5GHz Athlon X2 7550 CPU, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE GPU and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD. Tap the read link for all the nitty-gritty details, but only if you're really, really prepared for what's to come.

No.
Ryokurin @ Jun 25th 2009 11:49AM
Yep. There's always some part of these that's plain garbage.
pdonket @ Jun 25th 2009 11:54AM
I was thinking the same thing. The 6 series should be banned from use in computers...it's been years and years since they should've died lol
floydpink7 @ Jun 25th 2009 11:47AM
How easy is it to upgrade slimline PC's? Or... can you do it at all?
disciple83 @ Jun 25th 2009 12:01PM
when I last checked, they didn't come with an x16 slot, so no video card upgrades, so that sucks. And you can't really upgrade the CPU much further with it's proprietary cooling solution and power supply
engadget @ Jun 25th 2009 12:39PM
What do you want to upgrade?
Generally they have one or two lp pci slots, and 1 or 2 dimm slots, not much else.
Richard Glitter @ Jun 25th 2009 12:15PM
Some of them come with x16 slots, but can only be fitted with the half-height cards. I don't know specifically about these models though.
216 @ Jun 25th 2009 1:09PM
that's actually the advantage of the NEW slimlines, they can be outfitted with REGULAR SIZED PCI exapansion cards

Awesome

When did Nvidia start making CPUs? Think you made a typo there :P
Newone @ Jun 25th 2009 12:40PM
There's the Nvidia tegra...
And the GPU-CPU is getting a bit gray, check out nvidiia cuda minisuper computer. Is still need a separate cpu to work but dont think there's anything that would stop making a pure GPU computer if somebody wanted.
zshift @ Jun 25th 2009 12:22PM
OMG!! I think this is the first compaq EVER to not look ugly...now well see how emachines decides to retort.
ryan pappal @ Jun 25th 2009 12:24PM
OMG MY DREAM... FINALLY WINDOWS 7.. PICK ME OMGGG
GRAMMAR POLICE @ Jun 25th 2009 2:04PM
Wrong article, dildo.
SoITGoes @ Jun 25th 2009 12:32PM
Well, maybe my overclocking will work and my graphics card won't crash on every boot. Let's hope and see or it's back to XP for me.
Nitesh @ Jun 25th 2009 1:58PM
"512MB NVIDIA GeForce G210 CPU"
Nvidia doesnt make CPU's...
Verblist @ Jun 25th 2009 2:22PM
Well to be honest I have never been a fan of any compaq computers. They seem extremely fragile and all of the ones that I have encountered either took for ever to load up or were corrupted. Maybe its just my luck with that brand. The new HP's do seem very nice, there is something about that blue and black that just gets me.
Hope we can be of help,

I prefer Dell's laptops. HP's Pavilion laptops give good performance, but have poor build quality. They are so glossy, the trackpad creates a drag on your finger. Dell's also launched a new Inspiron 14 laptop that looks like the Studio and Inspiron Mini lapotps. I wanna try it out when it comes to Bestbuy.
molecule-eye @ Jun 27th 2009 1:41PM
These are desktops buddy. Don't think those comments about the trackpad are relevant, nor anything else you said. But thanks for sharing your love affection with Dell.
kal326 @ Jun 25th 2009 3:06PM
Not bad in the Elite e9000, you can get an i920 with 6GB DDR3(3 DIMMS), a 1 TB drive, ATI 4650, and a Blu Ray drive for $939.00
Probably one of the cheaper i7 OEM systems I have seen. Dell had one for around $999, but no Blu Ray and I think it had 6GB(6 DIMMS).
I built a i7 920 for a little over $1100, but it has much nicer graphics, storage and 12GB of ram :-)
molecule-eye @ Jun 27th 2009 1:39PM
It's ridiculous how cheap good (for the average user) computers have become.
