Yeah,
the PSPgo made the rounds at
a little show you might've heard of called E3, but we tracked the thing down in the wilds of NY the other day, and thought you might like to see the wild slider action for yourself. We have to admit, the handheld looks better in person than it does in press shots, but only just barely. It's perfectly playable and comfortable to hold, but it almost seems a regression in design sense for Sony. In comparison to the
PSP-3000, the PSPgo feels just a teensy bit lighter, but that's to be expected with the UMD drive kicked to the curb. At least it doesn't feel cheap. Because it isn't cheap. Video is after the break.

CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 25th 2009 3:41PM
You haven't seen a lot of boobies then.
wai law @ Jun 25th 2009 3:41PM
they feel like a bag of sand.
Neil @ Jun 25th 2009 3:46PM
bag of sand? damn what kind of boobies are you touching?
Boogie_Doo @ Jun 25th 2009 4:11PM
Better than boobies, I do not think so. Better than the DS Lite, yes.
inv4zn @ Jun 25th 2009 4:01PM
ones filled with sand?

+1 for 40 Y.O. virgin refrence
squeeg @ Jun 25th 2009 4:28PM
...and minus 50 for all the people who didn't get the reference!
iphonerulez @ Jun 25th 2009 4:32PM
Awesome! The PSP Go graphics are almost up to iPhone 3GS quality. The Zune HD will probably be even better than that. If Sony sells the Go for about $150, it'll be an instant hit.
Dirty @ Jun 25th 2009 4:39PM
"almost up to iPhone 3GS quality". Freaking moron.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 25th 2009 4:39PM

Trust one dumbass to mention Apple when talking video games.

I wantz a new psp not another remake. I want more POWER!!!
CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 25th 2009 3:40PM
I still can't believe they didn't include a touchscreen. It just begs to be used while closed.
Alistair loveless @ Jun 25th 2009 3:42PM
W E R D
dammit sony
Wise up!
also 2 analogs plox!
CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 25th 2009 3:50PM
@Alistair: Your name brought back so many memories - I don't know whether they're good or bad.
aj121489 @ Jun 25th 2009 4:18PM
I kept wondering to myself why everyone wants a touchscreen, because to me it would be annoying for games. But I just remembered the PSP has wifi, and I have the first gen. That's how little I've used the internet on it. I was gonna say I'd rather have dual analog than a touch screen, but now they're both pretty even to me. I also have an iPod Touch and going on the internet on that thing is so much easier (partially because of the keyboard, for me at least)
hfm @ Jun 25th 2009 4:18PM
People keep asking for 2 analogs.. not going to happen until PSP2, or whatever the next gen for this product line is.
They would obsolete the 50M units they sold already in one fell swoop since that version would not work with any new software that was coded to take advantage of the 2nd analog.
It's going to take a completely brand new platform (think ps2 -> ps3) before we'll see it.
Stop asking for it in these refresh models, you have no business sense if you think it's a good idea. It's something they should have included in the PSP-1000, but since they didn't, they should wait till PSP2. Along with that we'll get a complete hardware upgrade (CPU,GPU,etc..), probably capacitive touch as well.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 25th 2009 4:43PM
@hfm
Why do you think 50 million units would suddenly become obsolete? Did a thousand games suddenly become unplayable when Sony introduced the Duel Shock to the Playstation?
No of course not. The games released before the Duel Shock simply didn't use it.
Same logic would apply here.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 25th 2009 4:44PM
Deul=Dual sorry
Vidikron @ Jun 25th 2009 4:51PM
@NaeemTHM
No, it's not the same logic. With the PS1 you could simply buy a Dual Shock controller if you wanted to play a PS1 game that supported it. There would be no way reasonable way to retrofit a second analog stick onto the current PSPs. So as much as I'd love to see a second stick myself, I agree with hfm that it's not going to happen until the PSP2.
Song @ Jun 25th 2009 5:02PM
Gotta wait for PSP2.
Brdystyls @ Jun 25th 2009 5:21PM
"There would be no way reasonable way to retrofit a second analog stick onto the current PSPs."
I disagree the could use the top USB-on-the-go port to add two analog stick to the bottom of the psp. Like a case that hold on from each side. Plug in on top and analog sticks at the bottom. Yes this would effectively disable the built in stick but who cares. It can be done.
deyanimay @ Jun 25th 2009 9:25PM
nintendo really screwed me over, I can't play DS games on my gameboy advanced SP.
tekdroid @ Jun 25th 2009 3:41PM
Good to hear it's comfortable (better than current models?).
No battery door that I could see. Smacks for Sony.
John @ Jun 25th 2009 3:44PM
its just too bloody expensive....
rush0 @ Jun 25th 2009 3:45PM
Yeah whats the purpose of this when its closed?
Neil @ Jun 25th 2009 3:47PM
i would assume you can still watch movies and play music when its closed... maybe
Thunda Chunky @ Jun 25th 2009 3:49PM
So you don't have some fatass thing that won't fit in your pocket. That's just my guess.
Brdystyls @ Jun 25th 2009 5:23PM
Without a touch screen, play, pause fast forward and other media functions, you would have to open it to do it. Major Fail on Sony's part.
Kyle @ Jun 25th 2009 5:29PM
I assume the shoulder buttons can still be used so not a fail... wait till you see it implemented till you start playing the ohh thats shit game. Although I still am pissed there arent two joysticks so yes sony is in the failboat for that.
Poo_and_Wee @ Jun 25th 2009 6:43PM
LOCO ROCO
Jason Platt @ Jun 25th 2009 3:47PM
In that pic, (and vid) it looks so incredibly small. It looks way too small for normal man-sized hands.
Oh well, maybe kids will like it (if they can get their parents to pay for it).
Que Pasa Cochino @ Jun 25th 2009 3:50PM
well i dont know how big your hands are but mine are pretty big and thats how the regular psp looks in my hands!
JP @ Jun 25th 2009 3:54PM
My PSP fits in my hands nicely, which is why this thing would be too small.
Besides, it's too expensive and has less functionality than the original. I'll keep my PSP 1000 until they release a PSP 2.
echoelman @ Jun 25th 2009 3:49PM
I think I'll wait for the $250 PSP Go!-2000 with an OLED screen. That's the premium that potential buyers should be getting.
Brainy142 @ Jun 25th 2009 3:50PM
I agree I WANT 2 analog NUBS BLARG and touch screen.
xopherwyatt @ Jun 25th 2009 3:51PM
It looks pretty cool when it's shut... I really don't see any advantage to it over the old version though :/

Looks like Sony dug itself a nice hole, to themselves from. I don't see people dropping their PSP at the game store so they can buy this one. Though I was wrong with the DSi. People were stupid enough to drop the DS for it. Personally I will wait for the PSP2 to come out.
WTF no Touch Screen, no dual analog, I do not like the form factor (looks ugly), could have been an awesome MID (with touchscreen) and not just a game console. I'm bored.
hemmy @ Jun 25th 2009 5:13PM
"I don't see people dropping their PSP at the game store so they can buy this one."
That's because Sony isn't targeting current PSP owners with the Go, they're trying to expand the base. Those who prefer the classic form can get a 3000 which will be sold alongside the Go.
Brdystyls @ Jun 25th 2009 5:15PM
They need to get better games first a new machine isn't going to do squat.
hemmy @ Jun 25th 2009 6:18PM
The platform has plenty of great games and an explosion of new games is imminent, if you watched the E3.
LaughingMan @ Jun 25th 2009 3:58PM
I'll stick with my PSP-1000. It continues to run every single PSP game out there, UMD or not... maybe not as fast as the latest PSPs...
The biggest news from Sony lately isn't this new PSP product, which may or may not even be necessary. The biggest news is that their online game catalog is looking to explode in the coming months... heck, already we've got big PSone titles like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7, and Metal Gear Solid available for download TODAY.
As a PSP owner, I'm grateful for this, but at the same time, this should have been done YEARS ago. At least now Sony has their heads out of their butts and realizes the virtues of online distribution.
