PSPgo video hands-on quickie

What you get from playing Tetris
A new study published by the big thinkers at Mind Research Network has found that "practicing Tetris" can improve brain efficiency and lead to a thicker cortex.

PSP GO is better than boobies
I want one now
You, sir, obviously don't have a girlfriend.
dude. get your priorities straight
You haven't seen a lot of boobies then.
they feel like a bag of sand.
bag of sand? damn what kind of boobies are you touching?
Better than boobies, I do not think so. Better than the DS Lite, yes.
ones filled with sand?
+1 for 40 Y.O. virgin refrence
...and minus 50 for all the people who didn't get the reference!
Awesome! The PSP Go graphics are almost up to iPhone 3GS quality. The Zune HD will probably be even better than that. If Sony sells the Go for about $150, it'll be an instant hit.
"almost up to iPhone 3GS quality". Freaking moron.
Maybe he's likes men, or perhaps Dr House is a lady.
Let's not judge gentlemen.
Dr. House and iphonerulez are lovers. case closed.
PSPgo is better than man boobs, that's for sure.
WoW at all boobies lovers who rated me down.......... NEVER MESS around with the power of boobies i guess /lesson learned Sorry
@ iphonerulez:
"Awesome! The PSP Go graphics are almost up to iPhone 3GS quality. The Zune HD will probably be even better than that. If Sony sells the Go for about $150, it'll be an instant hit."
Trust one dumbass to mention Apple when talking video games.
I wantz a new psp not another remake. I want more POWER!!!
I still can't believe they didn't include a touchscreen. It just begs to be used while closed.
W E R D
dammit sony
Wise up!
also 2 analogs plox!
@Alistair: Your name brought back so many memories - I don't know whether they're good or bad.
I kept wondering to myself why everyone wants a touchscreen, because to me it would be annoying for games. But I just remembered the PSP has wifi, and I have the first gen. That's how little I've used the internet on it. I was gonna say I'd rather have dual analog than a touch screen, but now they're both pretty even to me. I also have an iPod Touch and going on the internet on that thing is so much easier (partially because of the keyboard, for me at least)
People keep asking for 2 analogs.. not going to happen until PSP2, or whatever the next gen for this product line is.
They would obsolete the 50M units they sold already in one fell swoop since that version would not work with any new software that was coded to take advantage of the 2nd analog.
It's going to take a completely brand new platform (think ps2 -> ps3) before we'll see it.
Stop asking for it in these refresh models, you have no business sense if you think it's a good idea. It's something they should have included in the PSP-1000, but since they didn't, they should wait till PSP2. Along with that we'll get a complete hardware upgrade (CPU,GPU,etc..), probably capacitive touch as well.
@hfm
Why do you think 50 million units would suddenly become obsolete? Did a thousand games suddenly become unplayable when Sony introduced the Duel Shock to the Playstation?
No of course not. The games released before the Duel Shock simply didn't use it.
Same logic would apply here.
Deul=Dual sorry
@NaeemTHM
No, it's not the same logic. With the PS1 you could simply buy a Dual Shock controller if you wanted to play a PS1 game that supported it. There would be no way reasonable way to retrofit a second analog stick onto the current PSPs. So as much as I'd love to see a second stick myself, I agree with hfm that it's not going to happen until the PSP2.
Gotta wait for PSP2.
"There would be no way reasonable way to retrofit a second analog stick onto the current PSPs."
I disagree the could use the top USB-on-the-go port to add two analog stick to the bottom of the psp. Like a case that hold on from each side. Plug in on top and analog sticks at the bottom. Yes this would effectively disable the built in stick but who cares. It can be done.
nintendo really screwed me over, I can't play DS games on my gameboy advanced SP.
Good to hear it's comfortable (better than current models?).
No battery door that I could see. Smacks for Sony.
its just too bloody expensive....
Yeah whats the purpose of this when its closed?
i would assume you can still watch movies and play music when its closed... maybe
So you don't have some fatass thing that won't fit in your pocket. That's just my guess.
Without a touch screen, play, pause fast forward and other media functions, you would have to open it to do it. Major Fail on Sony's part.
I assume the shoulder buttons can still be used so not a fail... wait till you see it implemented till you start playing the ohh thats shit game. Although I still am pissed there arent two joysticks so yes sony is in the failboat for that.
LOCO ROCO
In that pic, (and vid) it looks so incredibly small. It looks way too small for normal man-sized hands.
Oh well, maybe kids will like it (if they can get their parents to pay for it).
well i dont know how big your hands are but mine are pretty big and thats how the regular psp looks in my hands!
My PSP fits in my hands nicely, which is why this thing would be too small.
Besides, it's too expensive and has less functionality than the original. I'll keep my PSP 1000 until they release a PSP 2.
I think I'll wait for the $250 PSP Go!-2000 with an OLED screen. That's the premium that potential buyers should be getting.
I agree I WANT 2 analog NUBS BLARG and touch screen.
It looks pretty cool when it's shut... I really don't see any advantage to it over the old version though :/
I just take a gameboy...

In the words of Duke Nukem
"Eat shit and die!"
Looks like Sony dug itself a nice hole, to themselves from. I don't see people dropping their PSP at the game store so they can buy this one. Though I was wrong with the DSi. People were stupid enough to drop the DS for it. Personally I will wait for the PSP2 to come out.
WTF no Touch Screen, no dual analog, I do not like the form factor (looks ugly), could have been an awesome MID (with touchscreen) and not just a game console. I'm bored.
"I don't see people dropping their PSP at the game store so they can buy this one."
That's because Sony isn't targeting current PSP owners with the Go, they're trying to expand the base. Those who prefer the classic form can get a 3000 which will be sold alongside the Go.
They need to get better games first a new machine isn't going to do squat.
The platform has plenty of great games and an explosion of new games is imminent, if you watched the E3.
I'll stick with my PSP-1000. It continues to run every single PSP game out there, UMD or not... maybe not as fast as the latest PSPs...
The biggest news from Sony lately isn't this new PSP product, which may or may not even be necessary. The biggest news is that their online game catalog is looking to explode in the coming months... heck, already we've got big PSone titles like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7, and Metal Gear Solid available for download TODAY.
As a PSP owner, I'm grateful for this, but at the same time, this should have been done YEARS ago. At least now Sony has their heads out of their butts and realizes the virtues of online distribution.
"We could put the analog stick in there, and make an identical button placement opposite right here, where a second analog stick would go perfectly.."
"Nah the Start/Select buttons have to go there, otherwise we would be taking in feedback from current PSP owners, silly! You're fired!"
Sony needs to fire whoever was responsible for designing this. They could have blown the competition out of the water but, they clearly have no sense of direction. PLEASE SEE THIS DESIGN!!!!!!

This is the direction Sony should go in!
Good luck using the two analog sticks together...
I couldn't agree more. I love that design WAY better. I would have bought one of those, and then creamed a puddle.
agreed, that is a sexy hand held device.
psp-go is terrible. we need a new psp not another console that plays games built for 2004.
all psp games are terrible, and with only one stick it is extremely hard to play some games that should of been good.
boo
What the heck is that on the plate in the background? Looks kinda like a enchilada.
I would really buy this if it was like 150 bucks.
Looks tiny. I'd crush it in my regular-sized man-hands.
yall should put that toy down pickup that Ps3 controller and game like men do. ( with actually controllers Not make believe ones)
it just doesn't have that psp swag
The design is OKAY at best, though they could've achieved alot more with a slider form factor (i.e. http://www.flickr.com/photos/23754022@N08/2256832179/).
I could easily overlook the aesthetics of this thing if it had a touchscreen, 2 joystick nubs...and possibly an appstore (wishful thinking doesn't hurt). Why, Sony?
...
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?
ill be getting to upgrade my crappy psp-1000 but for anyone with the 2000 or 3000 dont bother
at least I have chicken
Anyone else notice engadget is using the word "quickie" a lot lately?
Someone must be getting a lot of quickie action.
On the issue of it being 'useless' whilst closed.. It's still great for music, considering you can use the inbuilt bluetooth to switch, pause and play songs with a wireless headset (and volume, of course). Hell, maybe Sony's overstocked with wireless headsets and this is their marketing plan.
I kid, I kid.
And weren't they developing a game that uses just the shoulder buttons?
I'm hopping aboard the onGOing train, and guess what? Your dual-analog-stick-wanting-butt isn't wanted.
Considering they've redesigned the form factor, they know the PSP has run its course, and they need extra shiny majiggles to sell it. PSP2's around the corner, be patient, young padawans.
They've compressed the device even more now for even smaller fingers. You know what they're saying? Middle-aged people, hands off! It's for the kiddos.
*Big grin*
It looks more uncomfortable than the prior models. It's smaller. I don't get it. How is this an improvement? Oh well I'm sure enough people will buy it. Even with its unexploited potential, I still stick the original models.
man i get a kick out of reading some of you guy's comments!! LOL sand boobies, lol
"hands on quickie"....that's what she said.
This no doubt a beautiful piece of gadgetry here...but unfortunately its still the old PSP with yet another face lift. Added bluetooth, 16GB of internal flash storage and removed the UMD Drive. What stayed the same? THE GUTS. The processor is still clocked at a pathetic 333mhz?! What the hell is with that? Another issue is the WiFi card, 802.11b?! I give up sony....
Make it play PS2 games. That is all I need.
Shadow of the Colossus + Devil May Cry == WIN
Hmmm, for kids maybe. It is small for even an average size hand.
can u guys take better video??
I am really disappointed there are no Analog controls :-(
Didn't you hear? We've gone all digital. Apparently even analog controls are on the way out. Pity.
yes
