Hi everyone, I'm confused. I bought my computer a while back in october. And I'm running Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 (that it came with). If I buy Windows 7 upgrade will I be able to upgrade it? People say I need a product key, did my computer come with it or do I have to have a vista box? Because my computer came with vista. And I'm still not sure if I should get Home Premium or Professional. Because I'm 16 and all I do is school work, video games, music, video and surfing the web.
Don't worry, you'll be able to upgrade. All you need to do is find the product key, which isn't that hard. If you have a laptop, its probably on the bottom in a sticker that has the Microsoft logo on it. If you have a CPU then I guess its on one of the sides of the CPU. Also check your documentation that came with the computer, that might have it.
Why do you refuse to talk about the BlackBerry Tour?
way to derail the thread, guys.
back on topic, android as a platform will not suffer from manufacturers and carriers customizing the OS to suit their needs/customer desires. whatever you get you can always flash base android on it if you don't like it. and android has a strong hack/mod community to take your conversion the other way so long as your phone can handle it.
i think that a lot of these skins and customizations will eventually end up pooling back into the base/open source and strengthening the platform as a whole
I love the flash based Podcast ....
You may also want to use the new HTML5 tag with the OGG file, which is supported natively by all modern browsers (not IE)

Love you, Micheal. May you finally have peace in heaven, and entertain all the other dead people with your crazy moonwalks and the like.
this is going to sound like a stupid question, but what the hell...
I couldn't find out on the HTC website nor the recent podcast but does anyone know if the HTC Hero is any good for music? I get it that its has the potential to be great for alot of things but what about music?
anybody??
thanks alot...
I heard his last words were "take me to the childrens hospital"
normally I dont listen to the pod casts but after checking it out ill def be back for more next time. Good stuff fellas.
I hear what you guys are talking about with the n97, I've been using a nokia 5800 and even through the most recent firmware, it just doesn't cut it. It's slow, buggy, has nonsensical UI and honestly I'm quite sure this carries over to the n97 in some capacity. Symbian user's scream about great applications but the fact is they really don't exist these days, most things hit the iphone and windows mobile/blackberry first. Nokia also can't make up their mind on where to go from here, Maemo and Qt framework, s60 v5 and just stick with it? Nokia has the money to just tabula rasa and get a new fast OS going, but just don't seem to want to. I don't know, my next phone will probably be a 3GS because I just can't justify sticking with Nokia because it feels like a detriment to my ability to work on the go. The HTC Hero would have rocked one year ago, now it just feels underpowered and low storage.
I'm getting all teary eyed now.

Show some class.
Thanks guys. Enjoyed your podcast, especially your Android/Hero discussion.
One unanswered question is how HTC will handle Google's Android OS updates. Presumably, they'll take Donut, reskin it, and return it to their users...after how long?
To your question: Google is in the Android game to drive more web traffic -- that's how they make money. . Mobile is the next desktop. 10 years from now, everyone will have a computer in their pocket. "The best way to predict the future, is to create it..."
My deep thought question: Is Google stock still a buy at $400+?
Iris is a webkit-based browser for WinMo, they hit 1.0 a while back and it works great!
Yep I use it frequently
Did anyone else hear certain parts about Android repeat themselves? Like that one segment about the different version of Android that'll be out there.
Paul, you are wrong. Yes, you can which email address you want as a default address on the iPhone. It's in the settings.
I'm quite fond of him, actually. And it's handy to have someone around who is educated in the law given the topics on the podcast.
Paul comparing Chris to Pocahontas has to be the funniest thing I've heard on an Engadget podcast...which probably says a great deal about my sense of humor.
Thank you for stopping to ask him to explain. Made for huge laughs in the car on the way home from work. :)
I've heard rumors that the netbook category is being specified by Intel and MS by a large degree by their control of prices of components (Intel) and OS (MS).
Basically a sub 11", no optical, atom (or similar) performance, 1GB RAM max, 160GB HD max and dx9 graphics (at least for the current XP home generation)
Now Dell can claim their 12" mini is a netbook, but it won't qualify for XP Home (and Win7 Starter AFAIK).
With reduce prices for OS and components, that should help keep these netbooks somewhat inexpensive (most are sub $400).
AMD and Via do have chips that would qualify as "netbook CPUs" for XP Home, but I haven't heard too many of these available.
AMD appears more to be targeting the next step up with 12" displays - the "ultraportables". Of course this has the added cost of having to use Vista Home Basic.
e72 transitions talk
e72 "ultimate execution of S60"
= classic comedy gold :)
Don't wanna get banned but I object to a rose colored view of this, I have a lot of strong feelings on this matter and you should recognize that some people do and we shouldn't be forced to hold ourselves back. I know this isn't a free speech issue but I definitely couldn't remain silent. Anyways this was a waste of a post, consider it the sound of the worlds smallest violin.
"I mean that is a sexy, sexy netbook. I wanna... I wanna get that netbook, I wanna get it drunk, and convince it to fly to Vegas and marry me, you know? And that's what's gonna happen."
I got weird looks on the train when I started laughing at that one :-P
