Video: Sharp's Mebius NJ70A unboxing

We've seen a bit of Sharp's Mebius netbook around here -- and most of our attention has been focused on that LCD trackpad (a 4-inch optical-touchscreen) -- but now it's been unboxed on video for all to wonder at. This 1.6GHZ Intel Atom N270-boasting baby has a 10.1-inch display (1,024 x 600), 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a multicard reader, and it runs somewhere in the realm of ¥80,000 (about $837). Video unboxing after the break -- and hit the read link for a photo gallery.

Where's the "ultimate" preorder?
Nice concept, but for about $837 I would expect 1.6GHZ Intel Atom, HD, 10.1-inch display (1280 x 768), 2GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a multicard reader.
I cant wait till someone creates a real time video translator. chinese -> english?

Excuse me?
The only thing you change is the screen resolution, and that would only make it unreadable (see VAIO P), and decrease the battery life. These things aren't meant for HD anyways, if you want that, better get at least a 13".
Whoops, also 2GB of RAM. Not that you need it on an internet machine anyways.
actually, I changed the screen size, added HD capability (ion?) and 2GB memory. Also, The 1.6 intel atom i was referring to was the 330?
Sorry, but you didn't mention the specific model. And you mentioned resolution (HD in a 10.1 inch screen is not worthwhile), not screen size. Ion would be good, but we need to see it flow down into the mainstream. Still, this is an overprized netbook, standard specs and an extra $400 just for the touchscreen panel (which, in my opinion, is just a novelty, and will eventually turn annoying as it sucks away your battery life and starts activating things you don't want activated).
And just saying "HD" made me think of screen resolution, not anything else. Sorry for the confusion.
This is nice, but there is something "wrong" I can't exactly place.
The guy had 3 hands!
a big premium for a lcd touchpad
If you can play Osu! on it, it's totally worth it.
1,024 x 600, wow. I can't wait until super usable widescreens come out with resolutions of 1024x1.
Nice stickers.
Yeah, possibly the only thing worse than those stickers is if they used the trackpad LCD to display even more of them. I can imagine Steve Ballmer trying to get OEMs to run commercials on the little displays.
sharp should bring the styling of the mm20 back!
the docking station to sync with the desktop was amazing back then.
2:36- Battery's not too heavy
3:21- (Obvious) Right side, SD slot, mic/headphone, USB, ethernet port, power
3:30- Front: Speakers
3:45- Left: The stylus, two USB, VGA port and kingston.
3:57- Very large cover on the bottom (5 screws).
4:20- Talks about the specs
4:39- "What I was talking about, that's so special, is this..." 4-inch optical touchpad.
5:00- You can do things like writing, playing games
5:16- Large keyboard
5:55- Pretty thick netbook.
6:15- Later we'll show you more about the optical touchpad
Not really an interesting translation
The Möbius strip on the lid suggests they spelt the name wrong.. (Moebius is acceptable, Mobius at a pinch but Mebius?)
If i saw it in a shop I would notice the McAfee sticker and then just move on.
The only program ever to give my PC an RSOD. Terrifying.
sweet stickers. wonder when those manufacturers are going to get together and realize that a) no company is going to be able to compete with apple in the style department until they get rid of those damn stickers and b) that nobody that cares needs a big stupid sticker on their computer to tell them what processor/graphics card they have. the people that do care, know exactly whats inside.
but of course the stickers are for the people who don't. you're thinking like an engineer, not a marketer, and not like the average consumer. this stupid shit works, like it or not. peel it off at home and get on with your life.
@m
shouldn't the floor model have the stickers on it, not the one you take home in a sealed box. In theory, by the time you get it home, you will know what's inside...
why do companies like Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, and the like all insist on putting stickers on products that contain their technology? It cheapens the image, really.
Do computer manufacturers get a kickback from these guys for plastering useless ads all over the product you've ALREADY BOUGHT???
Maybe that's the Apple Tax everyone talks about. Apple charges more for laptops because they are not getting the pre-paid advertisement discount from Intel!
