Sony investigating PSP phone?

As recently as May Sony has itself stated that a PSP phone "could happen," and now a report from Nikkei business daily states that Sony is planning on putting together a team as early as next month to build product that would act as a combination of a PSP and a Sony Ericsson handset. It makes plenty of sense, both as a differentiation from Nintendo and as a confrontation of the looming iPhone threat -- and hey, it might also act as a decent salve over the lukewarm reception of the pricey PSPgo. Unfortunately, if Sony is just about to get started on this, we likely wouldn't be looking at any resulting product for a while to come. Sony declined comment according to Reuters, which doesn't mean a whole lot, but it's worth keeping in mind that we've been hearing this sort of rumoring since back when the N-Gage (as a product) was still almost relevant.

I guess you never had a Verizon smart phone right? You are REQUIRED to have the data plan. JUST LIKE AT&T. We had 2 BB Storms with Verizon - data plan could not be dropped. Any smart phone requires a data plan. So, you might want to stop using that as an excuse. Good try though.

Yeah right! Let them do it. Go ahead but it won't make a dent in Apple's game. Look at the pspgo. No browser, no audio/video ecosystem? Sucks. the ipod Touch is so way ahead of Sony. A browser(REAL ASS BROWSER), itunes movies and music and the app store... Hello!Sony should have done this a long time ago but they sat on their sorry ass. And what makes their behind the curve ass stupid is that they have Sony Music and Movie. How could they have lost?
It's like MS not being able to surpass Apple in the mp3 market given MS's dominance in the pc business. They control 97% of the pc market through their OS. Pussies!!!

But I reckon this would be great. Basically all that you want from a PSP except in a phone. Infact, Sony really should have started trying to do this as their next step straight after the PSP was released.

Add a good camera to it and I'd buy this in a heatbeat. Sony has all the IP and technology to do this very well, they just need to cooperate and put it all together.
