SciPhone Dream G2 Android charger is best ever
One of our favorite intellectual property rips of recent months is without a doubt the SciPhone Dream G2 from China. Having completely missed the point of Google's open-source OS being, well, open-source and thus free for SciPhone's use, the company instead chose to hack the G2's "proprietory" OS to look like Android. The charger, however, built to look like the iconic Android mascot is pretty damn cute; enough so that the idea of paying $150 just to get our hands on the 100-240V USB charger has crossed our minds. See the Android's naughty bits after the break.

They'd make more money stateside if they just sold that awesome charger online. Android fans (of which I expect there to be many more by the end of the year considering all the new Android sets coming out) would be all over it.

Sweet, that sticker is already peeling on the back.. China makes hand made quality pieces of shiz we're talkin here!
Uncontrol @ Jun 30th 2009 2:23AM
You mean the sticker that says MADE IN TAIWAN?
Zion @ Jun 30th 2009 2:29AM
@Uncontrol
Meh, just the sticker was from Taiwan... lol
digitallysick @ Jun 30th 2009 2:17AM
So the phone doesn't run real android even though its open source? wtf
brie @ Jun 30th 2009 2:18AM
How is it we dont have this? Very cute.
Guillermo @ Jun 30th 2009 2:19AM
Also looks like it is made of the cheapest plastic available. (Although I would still buy one if it was sold independently) Why am I not surprised? Maybe we should make chargers that look like Steve Jobs. Now let me jam this end of the USB cable right here and then plug Steve's prongs into the wall.
Que Pasa Cochino @ Jun 30th 2009 2:19AM
that charger is... as we say in the dirty south... "Gangsta"
Lando Calrissian @ Jun 30th 2009 2:26AM
You're a fool if you think that "gangsta" is only used where you are.
Que Pasa Cochino @ Jun 30th 2009 2:31AM
@ Lando Calrissian
and your a dumb ass for taking words to serious
BLee @ Jun 30th 2009 2:36AM
Lando's prolly what we call in the dirty south a "jerk"... but he prolly knows its what people all over the world call him..

Can I use the SciPhone on Sprint in USA?
AndrewNoNumbers @ Jun 30th 2009 9:43AM
No it's GSM quadband. Only Americans use CDMA.
paezbak @ Jun 30th 2009 2:33AM
when they cant pirate a software they do it, but when they actually can, they choose not to. what an ego!
K @ Jul 1st 2009 10:37PM
I think you're a little confused over the terms "pirate" and "open source." You don't pirate open-source software.

Do androids dream of androids' naughty bits?
Ellusionist @ Jun 30th 2009 3:02AM
Hideous fanboy junk. I guess it'll look pretty in your man purse, won't it?
Might as well "get your nails did" while you're at it.

If anything I'd expect the iPhone owners to be the super metro/homo-sexual ones.
Eduardo Resende @ Jun 30th 2009 3:57AM
Not to mention the phone's logo looks like T-Mobile's.
G @ Jun 30th 2009 5:10AM
Wasn't there an article some time ago about this phone using the actual android OS? Or was that some other chinese phone?

I'd like to see some reviews of these Chinese/Taiwanese phones, I wonder what the quality is, specs etc.... these phones are prolly made in the same factories and same components anyway.
spacemanspork @ Jun 30th 2009 11:26AM
Well, technically HTC phones are Taiwanese phones...
And yeah I'm sure most components in phones are made in China anyways.
wywywywy @ Jun 30th 2009 7:24AM
Quote from Jubeh on XDA-Dev ----- the fake android phones run an os called nucleus os which is basically a phone os for mtk processors that sells for $15,000 for unlimited licensing. cheap when you're making hundreds of thousands of handsets and putting the same os on all of them. the os is skinnable, and it's responsible for all your fake chinese ipod, iphone, android, and almost anything with a touchscreen coming from china. One would ask, why fake android if android is open source? well, android is a fatty. while nucleus os might fit in a 32mb nand, you can't cram android (an usable one anyway) in anything less than 64mb nand. most of those phone's mtk processors come with built-in storage, and nucleus happens to fit in them, so the maker saves money by using less components (i've had a few of those phones, you open them, and there's hardly anything in those pcbs), really, those phones cost about 30 dollards to make (maybe less) and they sell them for 100-200, that's a profit right there.
skyblaze @ Jun 30th 2009 8:38AM
makes sense... thanks for the insight!
Webber @ Jun 30th 2009 11:21AM
I like how it actually even says "With Google" on the front packaging. Not to mention they even colored the first letter of "Sciphone" magenta to make it look like T-Mobile's logo. I'm sick of KIRFs, can't people make up their own ideas? Or, just grab the actual Android OS? They are funny to look at though.
TIMMAH! @ Jun 30th 2009 12:04PM
How are the phones? Are there any good review sites for these phones?
Christian @ Jun 30th 2009 2:39PM
Did they steal T-mobile's logo design too? I do like the idea of it, bu that seems to take so much surface area of an outlet, maybe if it was smaller.
reebob @ Jul 9th 2009 3:44PM
Have the phone. Love the phone. The charger, on the other hand, makes no sense. I have 2 batteries that come with the phone. They are very long lasting - 1 battery will last me 3 days - however, I can't charge the second battery independently. The charger only plugs into the phone. Waste of a battery.
cassie14_luvin_mylog @ Aug 18th 2009 11:12AM
