Pentax K-7 review roundup
We've been nothing if not comprehensive in our coverage of this new Pentax shooter, and early reviews are showing why. Photography Blog praised the K-7 for its weatherproofing and for having "one of the best LCD screens" they've ever seen on a DSLR, while ePHOTOzine were impressed by the image quality and Wired found the package of features and specs exceedingly robust given the $1,300 asking price. Some shortcomings were found, such as the slightly unintuitive interface and noise levels at higher ISO settings, but impressions were overwhelmingly positive. If you've been looking for a solid alternative to Canon's 50D or Nikon's D300, check out all the thoroughly detailed analysis in the read links below.

BFF
I will stick with my Sony A-700.
What does BFF have to do with this camera?
What does your Sony have to do with BFF?
"a solid alternative to Canon's 50D or Nikon's D300"
Thanks for getting the comparisons correct this time around Engadget :-)

Actually, I'd say it's more an alternative to the D90 than D300. It has some consumer oriented features like video and on-board HDR like the D90, but lacks some of the more professional features of the D300 such as 51-point autofocus.
51 point autofocus is a professional feature? autofocus is for noobs. real men do it manual.
@al, especially when they are alone.
It's too expensive to be a D90 competitor. Body only, the K-7 is $1,300 while a D90 is under 1k body only.
That's its MSRP. It'll sell for significantly lower than that in a few months.
From Photography Blog:
"Consequently it feels much more at home on the K-7 than the previous 18-55mm kit lens did on the K20D, although it remains a rather slow lens at both ends of the focal length (f3.5-5.6)."
Show me any other kit lens that is faster than 3.5-5.6. That's just kind of the de-facto standard...they should know...
The Nikon 18-70 was 3.5-4.5 iirc...
Oly E-3's kit is 12-60 (eq. 24-120) is 2.8-4.0.
You mean a solid competitor to the D5000 and T1i right?
kidding
Almost bought a Pentax k2000 but Panasonic have to throw micro 4/3 at my face.
Pre-Ordered mine... and now hearing rumors of Samsung GX-30 (announcement 7.7.09). Decisions will be made next week on whether I keep the k7 or switch to the Sammy. I'd rather have the Pentax.
Either way, exciting times for the K-mount and the long line of lenses.
I wouldn't count on those rumors if I were you. There's always going to be something newer and better eventually. There hasn't even been a real announcement for the GX30 while the K-7 has already begun shipping.
Why don't camera companies get it? And reviewers, for that matter. Noise at increasing ISO levels is OK as long as there's a pretty UI? That's messed up.
Vladislav, I think you are a better camera reviewer than the previous one. Thanks for posting a well informed infos.
This Pentax K-7 is surely a nice camera. I've checked everywhere and there is NO OTHER BRAND that can be totally WEATHER SEALED at THIS PRICE.
