Apple patching nasty iPhone SMS vulnerability
Given the hype surrounding Apple's iPhone, we're actually surprised that we haven't seen more holes to plug over the years. In fact, the last major iPhone exploit to take the world by storm happened right around this time two years ago, and now -- thanks to OS X security expert Charlie Miller -- we're seeing yet another come to light. Over at the SyScan conference in Singapore, Mr. Miller disclosed a hole that would let attackers "run software code on the phone that is sent by SMS over a mobile operator's network in order to monitor the location of the phone using GPS, turn on the phone's microphone to eavesdrop on conversations, or make the phone join a distributed denial of service attack or a botnet." Charlie's planning to detail the vulnerability in full at the upcoming Black Hat conference, but Apple's hoping to have it all patched up by the end of this month.

Who said Apple was perfect? Probably no-one. So stop talking out of your ass cos you can't afford Apple products
Paul A. Chapel said Apple is perfect.
I think Macs are great. honestly they are.
But what i dont understand, is you pay 3 times as much as you would for a PC, and you only get a mouse with one button! I want at least four buttons on my mouse, not one! Other wise my other fingers get lonely and jealous.
I wonder if they are referring to the commands like Cylay is using to be a MobileMe replacement at only 20/year vs. Apple's 99....
this can't be true!!!! This is Apple. Steve Jobs didn't have a liver transplant too!!! He's a demigod for duck's sake. Fuck! /s
I would just like to state that I have proved to anyone I know with an iphone how easily and at anytime their iphone can be remotely controlled with readily available tools found on the internet. Once you know their data and wifi addresses. The data address is the key, because you can get int from anywhere and find the wifi address they are assigned anywhere once you are in. It's too easy this is all old news.
The picture for this article actually made me LOL, because I done that exact thing. It's great to see someones face when they realize their iphone is mysteriously typing out a ghostly sms message. Great trick great trick. Even better if your mother believes in ghosts after your fathers death. Oh that was priceless ROFLMAO! Yes that makes me a bad person, but it was funny as hell, and she thought so too once she calmed down.
Yes Joe they are talking about commands like Cylay, and remote wipe, and numerous others intentional holes that Apple built in.
LOL@Brown Robott it's sad that some people see things exactly that way.
Oh and I think redcard needs a yellow card warning
all i need to know is HOW to make use of this vulnerability before it is patched...
You have issues.
As a person who has been hacked into many times by a crazy psycho, this is very unsettling.
What are you all talking about? This is a revolutionary new feature where you can keep in touch with your friends at any moment of the day! Steve Jobs took time out of writing software/designing products/baptizing babies with his magical touch to program this in! You ingrates! How dare you point out a flaw in an Apple product! Look what you did! You've made them remove this great feature.
/sarcasm.
i never expected iPhone 3.0 will have a lot of technical slags.
1. Signal issues. (the signal goes off automatically, i will have to toggle between airplane mode to get the signal back)
2. iPod issues. (i dont see the album artworks on the phone in landscape view)
3. Very slow. (any application takes time to open/close and also very slow while booting)

Makes me love my blackberry even more....
@Paul
Instead of arguing back and forth about virus or o virus or whatever, just go to Mcafee.com and Norton.com, go to their support pages, look for their version of an encyclopedia of threats and type MAC or OSX. Not all that come up of course are going to Macintosh, but there ae quite a few of them if you just took the time to look like: OSX/Tored, OSX/Inqtana.a, etc.
Is there 30? Who knows, who really cares. honestly. What is easier and more readily available? to be able to hack a computer that has 80% world market share or one that has like 15%? So yes, the number of WinPC viruses are going to outweigh the number of Mac viruses.
