Sonos CR200 remote control has a touchscreen, at last

And here it is. After we unearthed the Sonos CR200 in a FCC filing, out comes the first pic. As we expected, it's a portrait controller and is said to include a touch-screen which makes an on-screen QWERTY keyboard a lock for searching by artist, album, or song titles. Goodbye scroll-wheel! If you own a Sonos, then you know this is the best thing to happen since, well, buying your Sonos... just so long as it's not priced for $399 like the CR100 it replaces.

Looks like a sleek UI. Not so much a fan of the button design though...

Mmmmm front row angled artwork with iPhone screen buttons, and a WMC color scheme

The upright touchscreen concept is great. But the iPods touch and iPhones left over from recent 3gs upgrades serve the same touchscreen purpose.
If this controller is priced at current CR100 prices, you can almost get 2 Ipods for the same price.

True... true

The main advantage over Ipod touch that Sonos could offer would be dedicated hardware buttons that you can reach for without looking. Touch isn't the answer to everything. They've done this for volume and home, which is good, but not for next/previous track which is probably the other most used feature. So as you said, unless they have some cool features up their sleeve, get an Ipod Touch instead.

except they didnt realise that and only added volume lol

What do the kiser cheifs have to do with this?

Sheeesh, just get a refurb iPod Touch for $179 at the Apple store. The Sonos app works perfectly, one of the best apps for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I guess they feel they have to have their own controller for their system, but it would be much better if they could work on reducing the price of the ZonePlayers instead. $500 for the ZP120 is way too much, and it is almost never discounted.

Sonos is love, love is Sonos.

Pure Love!
One HUGE benefit to using an actual Sonos controller as opposed to an iPhone or iPod is that, unless the controller is in deep sleep, you don't have to wait for the WiFi to reconnect. I hate waiting for that.
Jules @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:17PM
@Brently AV: You do not have to wait for wifi to connect if you turn >Settings >General >Auto-Lock to never.
