Now, we've never been to this "Hall of Presidents" at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida (our parents instead taking us to real, disused dungeons and battlefields for family entertainment), but we're thinking about heading down there today -- not because the newest
animatronic addition -- President
Barack Obama -- has just been unveiled, but because his likeness is so... unlike him, so incredibly, terrifyingly creepy (and yet still impressive all the same). Yes, we'll pop all of our closest friends' children into the van and take a fantastic voyage down to the southern tip of our great nation just to see their reactions to this horrifying
robotic educational presentation. What better way to celebrate our nation's independence? Come to think of it... maybe our parents weren't so bad after all. Videos of Obamatron and of the President himself recording audio for it after the break.
Did anyone else notice that Obama asked if the figures were wax or "Holograms." Maybe it's just me but I can understand the wax bit but what in the world would lead him to believe that the things could be holograms? Maybe he just doesn't know what he's talking about, or maybe... the head of state knows about some cool toys that we don't, and made a little slip of the tongue. haha I'm just messin around but it would be sweet if the good ol' GOV had some sweet hologram technology kicking around area 51 or something.
"i love how engadget has all of these psychics at our disposal"
that line can make me rofl for hours... perfectly stated
im waiting for the pres.schwarzenegger replica - would be fantastic and wayyy too ironic...
Is the robot Obama going to say "um" after every couple words?
I don't label myself democrat or republican, liberal or conservative. Somewhere in the middle, but I can honestly say things were F'd up before and they are only going to get worse. We don't need to point fingers and clap each other on the back, there is plenty of that already being done by our senators and representatives. How about we start getting some real work done, and do what's best for our country. Instead of partisan politics... enough already. Seems like both sides don't care if the country burns around them as long as they are winning in the polls.
P.S. I have been to the Hall of Presidents twice, once as a young boy, and again as a teen. Both times I left with a sense of awe, and a pride and patriotism. Perhaps the House and Senate should visit Disney World before votes.
Now now, this is neither the time nor the place for expression of sensible thoughts
Hold on - When did Robots look and move so damn GOOD?! Thats amazing - I dont care WHAT its saying or promoting, its a bloody ROBOT!
Sorry if no-one shares my enthusiasm for this but, holy sheet! It moves more realistically than Asimo (Granted - Asimo Actually walks..) Why cant Disney collaborate with Honda and make a realistic robot??
It is pretty obvious that when you raise taxes on business and the wealthy, those people just charge more for the goods and services that they offer, to make up the difference. They are in a perfect position to do so. The middle class, who purchases those good and services, will in effect had their buying power reduced. Obama can say he is raising taxes on the rich all he wants; the middle class will end up paying for it. This is a shell game.
The only way the government can prevent this is by controlling salaries and regulating all industries to not charge above a government set amount for their goods and services. That would force the financially successful to become less so and not pass on the higher charges to their customers/clients.
The health care plan is a good example of this. If the proposed universal coverage goes into effect, the government will essentially directly control doctor salaries. In this way Obama can prevent physicians from raising rates in response to higher taxes, and can bleed that group. Very polically savvy, Obama is proposing to cut specialist pay dramatically and minimally bump general practitioners pay to bring them closer.... thus dividing organized medicine and essentially neutralizing physicians voice in the ongoing debate.
It's perfectly and abundantly obvious too that if you cater 100% to the businesses and rich to 1% the economy collapses and we ALL lose including those fat cats, and you might deny it but in your heart you know since you see it around you everywhere and you might scream socialism and fascism and oh-my-god-I-need-to-be-rich-and-the-world-needs-to-turn-around-me-not-around-reality just to be supportive to your peergroup and prevent too much foothold to those not in it, but you must be secretly glad someone is trying to fix the floor you stand on and the roof over your head and the walls that keep it there.
But the thing is, the truth is out.
@ Walt
As I understand it most people recieve private health insurance as part of their pay packet so the employer will be able to cut their costs and minimise the extra paid in total or pass on the extra savings as other work incentives ie. cash.
LOL@ the people who hate the idea of social healthcare.
In AU social healthcare does not mean you can't have your own private insurance or use that insurance to chose the hospital or doctor you want to see.
What it means is that all people have access to basic healthcare in their local area and it also means that every small town resident has the same access as people in major metropolitan areas. The trade off for people using the public system is that they have limited choices but can also look for, and sometimes recieve, the same choices as those people in the private system.
For me it means that although I am unable to work I am supplied with good healthcare and about a thousand dollars worth of life saving drugs every month.
This allows the most impoverished people the chance to survive major illness and still live to contribute to society next year if they can.
We also have a medicare card which is issued to every resident and must be provided at the time of recieving the services so if we had the kind of illegal immigration problem that exists in the US the immigrants would not be a drain on our healthcare system.
I would assume your Social security card would be used in the same way as the Medicare card of AU
@ Craig
The only reason these things move so well is that they are bolted to the ground and have access to unlimited power
I wonder if the "Better than average survival rates from cancer" is because people without health insurance wouldn't see their GP in the first instance and may instead die without being diagnosed.
Wow, no way dude that is jsut too cool. I wanna go see that.

I saw his animatronic version yesterday. For some reason it loved the water glass on its left side.
Shouldn't his index and middle finger be glued to his thumb on both hands, and shouldn't he be gesturing in that manner directly at us, repeatedly?
Doesn't look very much like him, to me.
Too light, for starters. Keep it real, or don't bother.
The Obaminator will kill more than flies in this country.
I also forgot to mention that those people who decide to purchase their own insurance recieves a 30% rebate to help cover some of the extra taxes paid to allow public health insurance
Politics? Who said anything about the Presidency having to do with politics?........
Anyway, about Obamatron. I don't follow Disney's animatronics division nearly enough. After watching the first video showing the movements being programmed into this presidential replicant, I was once again thrust back into my boyhood wonder of the Magic that is Disney. Say what you will about this president and his administration, I would love to get to Disney World and see the current show. I personally would be scared of the animatronics division. I mean, c'mon. Who's to say if this guy gets assassinated, they wouldn't be able to put Obamatron in his place until the first term is over?
And to the FBI, I may add this disclaimer: I'm not qualified to go looking to have the president assassinated. You know where I live, who I voted for, etc, etc, etc. So feel free to look me up sometime. :-)
The robot Obama isn't really scared me...
Is it just me or is there a little bit of #43 in him?
