Looks like that bulky
Guitar Hero World Tour drumset might be getting itself an extreme makeover in time for the launch of
Guitar Hero 5. According to our source, the blurred render above is the newest plastic percussion peripheral, and while functionality remains the same, it's moved the control console to the forefront, given the cymbals a more well-rounded existence, and done away with some of that body, particularly on the top and on the stand -- all in a all, a much more
Rock Band look, if we do say so ourselves. The back of the unit contains three mini ports -- two for kick pedals, and one ever mysterious black mini jack. Yeah,
Rock Band's drums have that mysterious unused port, too, and who knows what nefarious needs either will serve. What's suspicious is that it's two months before
GH5's release and we still haven't seen this officially, whereas the previous set was
ceremoniously unveiled almost six months prior to
GHWT's launch -- not that we wouldn't put it past Activision to keep it under lock and key for now, but why not let its newfound beauty shine?
Nice, 2 ports for bass pedals already on the kit. No splitter needed for X+. I have a RB2 kit, and I have to use a special splitter, since a standard audio splitter will not work. This splitter uses a AAA battery.
Granted, the RB kit uses a magnetic switch, rather than a piezoelectric sensor like in the WT kit, so WT Pedals use regular sensors.
I liked the WT kit when I had it, but getting a good one is a 50/50 chance (like the RB1 drums). I bet the GH5 kit will be much better. As long as it still has a MIDI in port, I will be happy.
Hafkie
?
I want 4 drums, 3 cymbals, 2 bass that work out of the box with the game!
Well, you can buy Ions, but you only get one bass pedal, (so you would have to buy another one).
one room disco.
Man, it feels like Guitar Hero 4 just came out. How are people supposed to keep track of all these plastic fake instruments? Soon we'll have used faked instruments shops popping up D:
The main-series games have been coming out every year around holiday season. You are pretty bad at keeping up.
Ehhhh... I really hate to sound like a fanboy, but Rock Band >>> Guitar Hero. Neversoft just can't make music games like Harmonix -- heck, I don't think anybody really can.
It's true..I own both and have played both and you can tell Rock Band is a much better quality game from graphics to note structure and instruments. Most people think that because it says "Guitar Hero" they are the original developers but truth is the ones with the talent that made GH 1 and 2 so great are working on RB.
At the risk of sounding fanboyish myself, I agree with you.
My roommate was a big GH3 fan, and eagerly awaited World Tour. In the meantime, we played my copy of Rock Band constantly.
When GHWT finally came out, he was extremely dissapointed with the entire set-up. He still uses his GH3 guitar over the GHWT one, since the GHWT one only seems to register buttons about 1/2 of the time. He also got a lemon drum set, and sent away for a replacement. The replacement he got was also broken in the same way (red pad completely unresponsive).
Since I never bought the hardware, my gripes were with the GHWT game itself. The band play was horribly disconnected, the UI was impossible to see on a standard-def TV, and the game felt sloppy and disorganized.
Thankfully, Guitar Hero Metallica fixed almost all of my gripes with GHWT, and seems much more solid, despite the fact that I can't play the songs to save my life.
The weird thing is, I disagree with almost everything said in this comment and its responses... I prefer GHWT in just about every aspect. The physical instruments are much better quality. I spent a week visiting friends and we had the guitar break, which was replaced by the end of the week and the day we got it back, it broke again. 2 hours after the second guitar broke, the footpedal broke. We taped a knife to the bottom and it worked well enough... The next day one of the pads started to go out. I was amazed. About a week ago, my sister got a RB2 drumset. I spent 4 hours trying to get it to connect to the console, because for whatever reason it wouldn't enter sync mode. After some dumb luck, it started working, and I was excited to drum because I used to think Rock Band drums were a lot of fun... I started to play and for whatever reason the footpedal wouldn't work, but every time you hit the yellow pad it activates the footpedal. It makes the game completely unplayable.
The drumset I got with GHWT has worked flawlessly from the day I got it, even after dragging it to a few LAN parties. I did get a DOA Mic, but I got it replaced in about 2 weeks.
Kevlar talked about his friend who had an unresponsive GHWT guitar, but had a perfect GH3 guitar. I've had the opposite experience. The GHWT guitar is the best guitar so far, IMO. My GH3 guitar won't always detect orange or yellow presses. I don't even use it anymore. When I have friends over, I use my GHWT guitar while my friends use one of the two Xplorers I got for $10 from Toys R Us.
As far as game vs. game, I still prefer GHWT, though I think the songs in all of the games have been slowly getting worse to appeal to more people. I loved GH2's song list. GH3's was okay. There are maybe 10 songs in GHWT I like, which is kind of saddening... I prefer GHWT's art style, too... Rock Band has always been a bit too dark for me. The game as a whole looks very grainy and I just don't like the style.
I'll be buying Rock Band 2 sometime soon because I want to play the Green Day packs that are coming out, though, so...
Oh, forgot to mention that the Rock Band instruments were the ones that broke while I was visiting my friends.
Dragod, it sounds like you hooked the foot pedal up to the wrong port...
Until they change the kick pedal i am not buying one.
Its a good way to twist and ankle!
step aside mr. blurrycam!
Project Natal will eliminate the need for these, can't wait
i'd rather beat fake plastic drums rather than beat at nothing.
I'd rather not have 800 peripherals. To hell with all this plastic crap.
Without any rebound, it will be impossible to do drum rolls. So good luck with Project Natal.
"Project Natal"
Microsoft's stupid EyeToy ripoff that they were caught faking demos for at E3 that is coming out MAYBE in late 2010 that requires the worst console ever made, the Xbox 360.
LOL!
Yeah, all those Guitar Hero and Rock Band players are going to be queuing up to wave their hands around in the air like idiots in front of each other at parties or with their roommates...
I didn't know Rock Band/Guitar Hero registered drum rolls? Whenever the fast notes come up on Rock Band, my set doesn't pick up all the hits.
hmmm, maybe it's just me, but that blurry-shot looks like glow-in-the-dark stuff
And the bass-drum beater isn't there.
Then - what IS that thing at the bottom?? :D
They just moved the support beam down...
They look like proper rubber cymbals but all the way round - I hate the RB pads cos it doesn't feel like a drumkit.
Also, to the guy on about the pedal - I've only seen a broken RB pedal.
Prefer RB tracklists tho
I'm still waiting for the GH or RB Neil Peart Edition. Should come in a large crate!
Im still waiting for a Rush Only GH or RB..
before you all exclaim how great harmonix is (and they are), GH3 was not done by them so don't say how great GH3 was over GHWT when GH3 and GHWT were both done by Neversoft.
guitar hero 3 sucks
meh, i'll stick with my RB2 kit
definitely...the cymbal add-ons made the set more complete...definitely worth the cost.
Meh, I prefer RB2's kit over GH's any day. I bought the whole GH:WT kit and ended up selling the drums since they were a big POS. I dont like the layout one bit. The RB2 kit is much better if you've got double bass and the 3 cymbals. I liked GH:M but its mapped kind of poorly when using RB2's kit. Its disappointing, I like the expert+ option, but dont like how it plays. I also would like RB would use the double bass idea and get moving with it.
I for one am tired of hearing about Guitar hero and rock band.
Joystiq is over run with these posts.
These 2 games may be the biggest racket in video game history, charge people $200 to get it set up, then bang people a few more bucks a week to get more songs.
I liked guitar hero, it was fun for a while, but it's really just all the same game over and over, just with new songs. The developers barely have to do any work to add new content.
At least when you buy downloadable content on a first person shooter you get new maps to play for a while, even weeks or months. For your money in GH or RB, you get a song that takes good players 1 try to beat and then you never use it again.
I pity the people that keep sinking their hard earned money into these 2 games.
As far as i'm concerned the fun ended at GH3.
I do not understand why you would be under the impression that people who are good at RB/GH would pay for songs and then play it once.
That's the stupidest thing I've heard someone say about these games, and there are a lot of whiners.
You do realize that some of these songs are challenging? Even to some of the best players, when you have a song like Good Morning/Black Friday by Megadeath, the drum track is insane to play, because it requires you to use one pedal for the bass drum, while you do as many beats as the drummer does in the song yet he had two.
So no, even when "good players" beat songs, them play them again, because it's fun. To say the fun stopped with GH3 made me want to throw up for a second there, because 3 was crap compared to 2 or 1, and the RB series is superior in so many ways to the GH series in terms of the quality, design and game-play that it's my personal opinion that you do not know anything about these games. Period.
GH is being milked entirely by Activison, but your comment was so crappy I had to respond. Sorry if I offend you.
How can you say the fun ended at GH3- the fun had just started then- yer the toher games had better songs but the majority of those songs were crap as they weren't master tracks and had crap bands covering the songs on the game. Take the swett child o'mine song was meant to have the axl rose scent in it but all you got was a croaky old bloke instead or even worse a teengare whose balls were on the verge of dropping!
I rather like www.iPlayGuitar.com much better as a 'first person' type of game.
but it still looks like its non-customizable.
I should be able to move one drum closer to another if i like.
Ooh, I'm liking the look of them. They look much more aethetically pleasing and I'm guessing that Activision has learnt from last time they made drums.
I've had 3 faulty WT sets, one functional RB1 set and one ION kit, but that's mainly for real drum practice and I much prefer the RB1 kit.
I think I'll get this one regardless of what the game is like.
Well this kit kinda looks good- but you never know now after recieving a leaked picture and information Activision might change the drum kit design completly and having that bar connnecting both legs is ridiculus yer it can be used to stop the bass pedals from moving down the floor like the rockband drums but it kinda defeats the object of having more space for the player to move around. But going from a full plastic frame to an open frame kinda looks flimsey to me dunno if it does to anyone else. Aslong as the game is still compatible with the rockband drum set and the roland and ion drum kits i would be fine other wise my other drum kits have gone to waste then. Also i hope that hte pads are at an angle as unless you lower the drum kit you'll be hitting the edge of the pads all the time. I gonna wait till they actually come out and see them infront of me before i go or even think about buying them.
According to a band hero trailer on youtube, the drums were redesigned specifically for band hero. In the trailer you get a much clearer view. It looks like a plastic toy. I seriously don't like the new drums at all
