Resoundingly
positive reviews can't be a bad way to start a product cycle, and that's just what the
Pentax K-7 has, and now lo and behold, it's on sale via Amazon and JR We're not seeing any bundles at this point, just a body-only listing, but we can't imagine those are far off if you want to be patient.

me soooo wants... I have a K200D and a mad wish to upgrade.
Dane @ Jul 6th 2009 10:17PM
Save your money, and get the K20D and a cheap HD video camera like the flip. This is a little steep price wise with little real advancement over the K20D which goes for half the price.
Javier @ Jul 6th 2009 10:31PM
you sir, have a point... In reality I'm just keeping my K200D until a while later, I think I'd rather spend the money on a short prime and one of those new "cheap" weather resistant lenses that will come out with the K7 :-)
Dane @ Jul 6th 2009 10:51PM
I recently purchased the K20D and love it. I would really like to get a sealed lens though. Maybe in a couple of months I will have saved up enough. For $650 you can't find a better camera.

Pentax?!?!
G Scott J @ Jul 6th 2009 9:56PM
Nope, it's from Pentax. Close, though.
Vylen @ Jul 6th 2009 11:34PM

Looks awesome.

this bad boy got a full 5 star preview from dpreview.com couldn't be a bad deal at all. But I'm more interested on the K20D because I don't need all those pro level features. Anyone has experiences on pentax dslr quality?
el-emeno @ Jul 7th 2009 9:13PM
I've been really happy with my K10D. I've had it for a little more than 2yrs without a single glitch. It has a very solid build. I'm not hard on my gear, but it has seen international travel and a whole bunch of shooting environments (including rain a few times).
I'll be upgrading to the K-7 as soon as I can. The incremental improvements in all areas will be a substantial benefit, and the video feature will end up being pretty valuable for me too.
I was totally interested in a K20D until I saw the reviews and the specs on the K-7. To me, it's enough better to warrant the extra cost, and they didn't increase the resolution which is a big plus to me. Unfortunate that it uses a new battery and grip, but my K10D will stay in my kit bag as my backup, so the stuff that I have specifically for it won't go unused.
Vylen @ Jul 6th 2009 11:14PM
Well.. I can't complain about the quality of the K20D ... as a proud owner.. well.. im proud, and happy :P
On low ISO, noise is never an issue.. higher ISO, noise is an issue but that's normal - usually there are ways to reduce the need to use high ISO settings anyway...
ryeclifton @ Jul 6th 2009 10:41PM
I'll post an un-boxing tomorrow morning... When I un-box mine.
Brent @ Jul 7th 2009 12:59AM
If anyone is upgrading there Pentax and want to donate an old one... let me know. I used to be a good photographer when I had a camera..... (cries) haha
Rob @ Jul 6th 2009 11:41PM
Wait, not just Nikon and Canon make SLRs??
Vylen @ Jul 7th 2009 1:03AM
Yes... and it was Pentax that produced Japan's first ever SLR in 1957 (i.e. before Canon and Nikon)...
rawhead @ Jul 6th 2009 11:43PM
Just got mine today, and it rocks me socks off. I do not regret the $700 upgrade price (sold my K20D for $500, got the K-7 for $1200). And no, it's not all about the HD video; it's not even mostly about that. If you do any kind of shot utilizing LiveView, that alone is almost worth the upgrade price; Very smooth LiveView as good as, if not better than EOS LiveView (which is awesome) with in-body shake reduction is all sorts of win. And holy cow the shutter is so quiet.

What is the difference between Pentax K-7 and K10D?
Can the Pentax BG2 battery grip can fits for the Pentax's K-7 DSLR ?
I see a pentax BG2grip here http://www.digitalcamerabattery.us/battery-grip/pentax-k10d.htm . It can fits for K10D K20D but i dont think it can used in K-7.
Vylen @ Jul 6th 2009 11:58PM
You're going to need the D-BG4 for the K-7..
bigcow05 @ Jul 7th 2009 2:44AM
I'm torn about this not being a 35mm-size sensor camera. On one hand it is very affordable and doesn't screw over users of all the DA spec lenses, but on the other I find the DOF on my *istDS just a bit too limiting. I miss being able to blur the background with a 24mm equivalent field of view, and none of the DA lenses seem to have the apertures that will allow me to do so. Sigh.
Yem @ Jul 7th 2009 4:36AM
Just get closer?

peepeepants @ Jul 7th 2009 4:54AM
Stand further away and zoom in.
bigcow05 @ Jul 7th 2009 5:23PM
Both of these actions will change the field of view. But yeah, that's basically what I've had to do to compensate.
scape @ Jul 8th 2009 3:18PM
that's affordable....
