Getting sick of capitalism.
They serve a useful purpose as they are twat detectors. Anyone who has one is a twat.
Who on gods green earth would buy such a thing?!
The free market will ensure that whoever made this goes bust and never makes anything else like it.
its not a tumor!
move somewhere else, then.
I did not know Barack read this blog? wow...
these stupid products make me so mad.
It's quite astonishing, but if these companies actually manage to make money, then you have to applaud their balls. You have to.
@j_g something about one born every minute .. I guess these companies are piggy-backing the fact that people bought an iPhone in the first place ..
I am more stunned than mad. This is a stupid use of materials and energy production.
Dear people who make this crap; The iPhone is a PHONE. A PHONE. Hear that? A.... it's coming... PHONE.
If I see someone using products like this on the street, I may just have to slap them. I would like to think I would practice non-violence, but I wonder if a good slap, or maybe a punch, might wake this type of person up.
Then again, maybe we should just invent an iPhone accessory that looks cool, but leads to an extreme high chance of accidental deaths and then let Darwin Theory weed out the fanatic fanboys.
Let's all agree right here to laugh and point at anyone using this bullshit if and when we see them.
I know I will.
I'd love to see someone on vacation using one of these. I could do with a laugh.
I just want to make sure that this guy doesn't get a whole bunch of undeserved replies, so I'm going to type what will hopefully be the only one: DON'T FEED THE TROLL!!!
Wow. These people actually believe they're making useful products. So sad...
DO NOT FEED THIS TROLL
Thanks
Apple customers are highly susceptible to sales pitches.
Speaking of sales pitches, I love these guys: "we saw that someone else made one, that gave us the idea to make one too".
he's not a troll... he 100% correct. and so are the other two comments
Why do people think that just because it's not useful for them, it's not useful? I, personally, could use a product like this.
Yes, a dedicated video camera would get a better picture and offer more features, but in the fast paced news business, this could be invaluable. Think of an on-the-spot interview taken with this attachment that allows a wide angle lens and a better mic, and it gets instantly uploaded to YouTube or the interviewer's MobileMe account, where the news channel can get up-to-the minute access to footage. It's not about the camera in a phone, it's about connectivity. Until Flip puts a 3G and WiFi chip in there and can upload video from anywhere, there will be a place for camera phone accessories.
It's not for cable or network news, they have better mechanisms for this, including live links; but think of smaller sites, bloggers, channels like CurrentTV, and the like. They could find something like this useful.
To prove a point, here is a list of things that are not useful to me, but may be to others: ShamWow, Blog Trolls, overclocked processors, tampons, cat food, neck-beard conditioner, extra-large tee shirts, cigarettes, dice with more than 6 sides, Windows XP, golf clubs, Celine Dion records, a Klingon costume, and Pepsi Clear. See, these can be useful, just not to me. You should learn what words mean before you type them.
i can't believe people actually buy this junk :(
Nothing like 3rd party accessories to completely and utterly destroy convenience, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
I actually look forward to these mounts. I like the versatility of the one handed ZGrip, but the features of the dual grip Qik seem much more useful. If it comes out near a $30 price point, then it might actually be worthwhile.
ZGrip pro: $295
Tripod Mount: $50
Extender Pole: $40
Best of luck with that, Zacuto.
I'm totally adding my extension-rod like all my fellow internet-nerds.
I do haveto say, that video shot with the wide angle lense and mic was a vast improvement!
I wouldn't buy myself, but it's always good to have possibilities, don't bash it, look at the difference between with it and without it :)
How the **** would a one handed grip change anything? Unless it has built in accelerometers and stuff, in which case it would be stupid expensive. But wait, the phone already has those built-in, can't the mighty apple with all their movie expertise design some kind of stabilization?
Funny thing is that people with money actually buy this kind of junk. And the fact that companies actually spend time on video mounts for the iPhone just shows how highly people think of it.
Or, they could just be trying to milk some cash out of your everyday moron.
Holy mother of fuck...I want one of those.
The chick, I mean, she is cute and hot.
Well if you can't make her your girlfriend at least you can use the extend-o-pole to spy on her through her window!
It's a nice accessory for upskirts and hidden toilet cams.
Apple invented the peeping tom
I'm ready to bet that for the price of those things you could buy a camera with better optics and more megapixels than the iphone.
Yup, that's what I was thinking too. The handle... I mean the PRO handle looks like a $50 item, which probably means it'll be $125.
I often wonder why there are this stupid accesories only(or allmost only) for IPhones .
Because only fanboys (not all apple users are fanboys) would be dumb enough to buy such crap.
There should be a seperate Crapgadget for these Iphone accesories.
Urrr. That 2nd video somehow makes it look rather effective. I can't work out what upsets me about this. Oh yeah..
It's the sad fact that ENG teams probably will be using these and then another nail in the coffin for media quality.
Pray how did a 640x480 video stream get camera and media people excited. It's bizzare. Sure it's good qual for the res but it is still 640x480
As an amateur filmmaker Im kinda offended by this......
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth... why polish a turd as my friend said.
i really want to meet the person who pays for one of these, im sure they cost as much if not more than a significantly more capable stand alone camera
It's a novelty accessory FOR a novelty product. BFD
i don't know if you can count the fastest selling phone in history, with the largest base of continuing revenue (the App Store) to be a "novelty product". I will agree, however, that this is a novelty accessory.
Jimmy, that only proves that there are a lot of silly snobby sheep out there.
Nice mounts, however Olivia Munn might just have found the nicest iPhone photo kit http://www.oliviamunn.com/awesome-iphone-case/ a leather case with the possibility of interchanging lenses.
If you watch the video you will see that they footage does not match up to the camera's movement and position.
To get the shot on the pole the camera would need to be tilted down... not straightforward.
And in the lowpass shot the camera was bouncing up and down with the operators step, but maintains the same perspective on the video capture.
In other words, these guys are showing you what you can do with it, but not the actual (poor quality) you will be getting.
If these guys could make actual, balanced stabilizer accesories they would be making them for dedicated rigs and making gads of money. But camera people know crap when they see it so the only people who buy this will be the unsuspecting random consumer.
Okay, I do have an ammendment to make. It seems they do make accessories, but only gunstock style shoulder mounts and monitor holders. Nothing complex and surely nothing that I would ever by at the prices they want. A $120 shoulder stock is just as good as $550 shoulder stock. It is basically just an extension that fixes to your camera and keeps the unit tight to your shoulder. Not impressed by them in the least.
These are stupid. If you're making a movie that requires a steadycam, you're not going to be using an iPhone to do it.
Yes. This is dumb. For those that don't know, Zacuto does make some of the best camera support products out there. For doing so, the markup is insane. This is like if Ferrari dipped into the $30k and under price point. It soils the brand. They also rip off poor, dumb indie kids that think they can make a feature on a DSLR, or crappy phone (PS, I like the iPhone, but it will NEVER EVER be a video camera). If you go pro on support gear and weak on actual interface equipment, you just look like an idiot producer and an ignorant auteur. Peace.
It's totally got to be a joke. The product is called the Owl Bubo?!
It's a joke or the guy marketing it is dumb as rocks.
