GSM Palm Pre makes exclusive first appearance on Movistar
There it is, the first official press shot (see that HSDPA icon?) of the GSM version of the Palm Pre. The "more information" link isn't working at the moment but it's clear that Movistar has exclusive rights to the Pre in Spain. Of course, Movistar, like O2 in the UK, is owned by Telefonica which so far seems to have clinched exclusivity throughout Europe. We're still waiting for all this to get officially official sometime this week, if not today.

any info if movistar will carry the pre in latin america? i would love to go buy a gsm pre in tijuana! :)
Do we know which bands will be available?
although im not sure, i believe it will have 850/1900/2100 3G considering movistar operates on 850/1900 in most parts of latin america...
-stomps off madly
There is going to be a major annoucement today at O2 Germany. Lets be patient a few more hours.
Well, I just need to look at how poorly Movistar handled their exclusivity of the iPhone - delays, lack of information, clueless staff, abysmal stock organization. I mean when the 3G came out they didn't know what plans they wanted to offer. This time a week after the 3G S announcement they didn't even have a word about it on their website. And beware if you want to buy one. Most shops didn't even stock the 16GB model. If with that level of service at least they were cheap, but they're just a rip-off.
All in all it looks like they didn't care about making the iPhone a success at all, they just wanted to make sure nobody else did.
If Palm partners with them across Europe they surely won't sell a lot.
They wouldn't sell a lot anyway...
Exactly! I wanted to buy a 3G they didnt have any most and shops didnt even know what it was! The ones that did says there is a 3 month waiting time after 2 weeks of the oficial release. Than the 3G S was done a little better and I only had to wait 4 weeks. I don't think the palm pre is going to sell very well especially because I have not seen anybody here without an iphone.
What's up with this American exclusivity BS coming over to Europe?!
resistance is futile!!
that and the fact that Palm needs a network to support it over there, to create a brand image and promotion...
once europeans get the idea that Palm and webOS exist, Palm won't need to partner up with a network and release it sim free...
wow !! fantastic!
I live in latin america, Movistar SUCKS BALLS! here, Im not changing carrier/phone number gdamnit!!!
i do love the pre tho
Don`t they offer you the option to switch but keep your existing number?
nope
I still haven't seen a Pre at either of the two Sprint stores near my house, or at any Radio Shacks. Are they behind a counter or something? I would think they would want to display the thing!
too bad the Pre is a total junker. I really like webOS though, hopefully they end up making a decent phone with it sometime.
Hay caramba!
nice am moving to latin america by the end of the year :) i guess the pre will be waiting for me over there
Cool
