GSM Palm Pre makes exclusive first appearance on Movistar
There it is, the first official press shot (see that HSDPA icon?) of the GSM version of the Palm Pre. The "more information" link isn't working at the moment but it's clear that Movistar has exclusive rights to the Pre in Spain. Of course, Movistar, like O2 in the UK, is owned by Telefonica which so far seems to have clinched exclusivity throughout Europe. We're still waiting for all this to get officially official sometime this week, if not today.

Well, I just need to look at how poorly Movistar handled their exclusivity of the iPhone - delays, lack of information, clueless staff, abysmal stock organization. I mean when the 3G came out they didn't know what plans they wanted to offer. This time a week after the 3G S announcement they didn't even have a word about it on their website. And beware if you want to buy one. Most shops didn't even stock the 16GB model. If with that level of service at least they were cheap, but they're just a rip-off.
All in all it looks like they didn't care about making the iPhone a success at all, they just wanted to make sure nobody else did.
If Palm partners with them across Europe they surely won't sell a lot.
Patriks7 @ Jul 7th 2009 4:38AM
They wouldn't sell a lot anyway...
Alex @ Jul 7th 2009 4:56AM
Exactly! I wanted to buy a 3G they didnt have any most and shops didnt even know what it was! The ones that did says there is a 3 month waiting time after 2 weeks of the oficial release. Than the 3G S was done a little better and I only had to wait 4 weeks. I don't think the palm pre is going to sell very well especially because I have not seen anybody here without an iphone.

What's up with this American exclusivity BS coming over to Europe?!
be fearless @ Jul 7th 2009 4:53AM
resistance is futile!!
be fearless @ Jul 7th 2009 4:56AM
that and the fact that Palm needs a network to support it over there, to create a brand image and promotion...
once europeans get the idea that Palm and webOS exist, Palm won't need to partner up with a network and release it sim free...
freefrank @ Jul 7th 2009 4:40AM
wow !! fantastic!

ALBGunner04 @ Jul 7th 2009 11:18AM

webon @ Jul 7th 2009 1:26PM
nope
Alan @ Jul 7th 2009 8:53AM
I still haven't seen a Pre at either of the two Sprint stores near my house, or at any Radio Shacks. Are they behind a counter or something? I would think they would want to display the thing!
rob thero @ Jul 7th 2009 9:27AM
too bad the Pre is a total junker. I really like webOS though, hopefully they end up making a decent phone with it sometime.
