Two long lost siblings, at last reunited. But can there ever be unity? We don't think so. At every turn, the
HTC Hero seems to trounce the
myTouch 3G -- it's really hardly a contest. The myTouch is certainly lighter, and in many ways "feels" smaller because of it, but the size differences really are negligible. They're still both great phones, but the Hero really feels like a million bucks, while the myTouch feels a bit like a toy. Unfortunately, only one of them
just went up for pre-order on T-Mobile, and it's not the one we want to marry.
I Already have a PRE i have to lines i want the HERO or that Samsung CDMA/WiMax/WiFi Beast and im good
So you have to lines? Not two lines? You are such a loser. I think that the pre, myTouch, Hero and iPhone are All good phones, but none of them are going to be "dominated" by the other. Competition is good so that the companies can make a better phone.
When HTC comes out with an android phone that looks like a Touch, then we'll talk.
T-mobile FTL!
Sigh engadget, It would be a dream to have Hero but it's just not possible for T-Mobile to have. It can run on T-Mobile for 2G but not 3G cuz Hero doesn't have the correct frequency. They'll have to release one that will work with 1700Mhz. Only thing that this will work with is actually AT&T.
Again, I hope that they do release one even if under a different name and slightly different shape, just don't name it myHero or anything that starts with "my". It may be catchy since it is their theme and possibly because it sounds like "i" like in iPhone but it's kind of feels very passé to have it. Just my 2 cents.
The downside to the HTC Hero is that Bruce Campbell will show up at your door asking for his chin back.
Such great looking, drool worthy phones. I pick the Hero though.
God damn, the Hero looks slick. Hopefully it comes to T-Mobile soon. I'll gladly give up my G1 for it.
In the last photo, the myTouch shows a landscape keyboard and the Hero does not. Does the Hero have landscape keyboard?
hero has a landscape keyboard.
go here, this guy has 7 days worth of videos on the htc hero
http://coolsmartphone.com/index.php
thanks!
They're both just running different Android keyboards. I have both of the keyboards pictured installed on my Google Ion right now, they work the same way but I personally prefer the default one (with the black keys) because it has better word prediction and correction.
What they should do is auto-ban "first post" morons.
man that HTC Hero is one slick phone. hopefully it comes out on at&t or verizon here in the states.
Let's see, one phone that won't come to the US for at least another year, and another phone on a US carrier that serves about 20 people.
So tmobile sold a million g1's to 20 different customers? Math is not your strong suit huh buddy?
I love the Mytouch but the Hero Sense UI is amazing.
My plan is to get the Samsung Galaxy (i7500) when it comes out, and install the Sense UI on it.
The Samsung Galaxy IS coming to T-Mobile right???
The money would be in the mail to t-mobile if the myT3G had a 3.5 headphone jack.
Why the obsession with a 3.5?!? It may sound a little better then bluetooth but it still sounds awful.
Because looking for and also using a headphone adapter is a PITA. It's inconvenient and often looks clumsy IMO. Just install a standard jack already, on ALL phones!
That looks like the most uncomfortable phone in the pocket.....and it's hideous
"They're still both great phones, but the Hero really feels like a million bucks, while the myTouch feels a bit like a toy. "
I assume you're referring to both the build quality AND the UI when comparing the two, correct?
OMG...this isn't even a damn comparison.
Hero blows the Magic away by a long shot!
Seeing it in person must make a big difference, because based on the pictures the MyTouch looks about a hundred times nicer. The Hero just kind of looks like a weirdly angled boxy brick.
Why are you barbecuing them?
Well T-Mobile's CTO has stated they will not be selling this phone in the states.
So now...it all boils down to the Rachel being real and who gets it if it is.
Whoever does gets my sig on a contract
HTC HERO FTW!!!! 3.5 mm headphone JACK!!!!!!
Can you check Yahoo Mail on any of these android phones with native mail app?
yes
They should wordfilter "First," "f1rst," and any variation people come up with to something along the lines of
"Please send me spam, my email is ****" and the wordfilter would automagically use the email from the user who posted. This would be the more amusing way, albeit not the most effective.
the hero looks fugly, compared to the mytouch. However, I would love to have a 5mp camera and 3.5mm jack on the Magic/ION/G2/Mytouch3G/Sapphire/Ohmy
HTC Hero. Come to AT&T.
now.
What's the point of saying you're 1st?
Whatever..been using Mytouch about three weeks now and love it...I even returned my 3gs.
That's what I want to hear.
I'm an iPhone user myself, and I'm looking to jump ship to an Android phone.
Can't wait for the Hero to come out on Orange & T-Mobile here in the UK!
My iPhone bores me now...
This is not a "fight", and surely not a review which I was hoping for. You could have also produced some better screen shots of similar apps running on both phones (i.e. web browser, email, dialer, landscape keyboards, etc.)
@techie
to prove you troll forums just to prove you're the biggest nerd on the internets!
THIS IS WHAT I HATE ABOUT BEING A TMOBILE CUSTOMER. THE CLEARLY BETTER PHONE GETS PASSED UP AND THEY RELEASE THIS GARBAGE TOY. I saw the demonstration yesterday and the mytouch looks very uncomfortable to type on and I dont nee to touch it to tell it feels cheap. It looks like a KIRF gadget! The hero looks great and I did some searching and saw an article that says " The HTC fails to woo T-MOBILE USA". I seriously feel like they must be getting kickbacks from the other carriers to hold us back. TMobile has the best prices but they dont invest anything in the american market and don't tell me they're not making any money. It's not a coincidence that a European company is treating American consumers like SHIT!
agreed.
i agree that t-mobile's phone lineup is pathetic, and that it's sad the mytouch will be the best phone they have, but t-mobile does have one of the best...if not THE best...customer service out of all US carriers. plus, the convenience of having a GSM phone over CDMA is HUGE! the only other GSM provider is AT&T. there's no way in hell i'll switch over to that conniving provider...
Anyone have any updates on the hacked Sense UI for the Magic? It was running sluggishly at the end of June, but I haven't found any news since then.
I never had a chance to see the Hero in person, but I stopped by a local T-Mobile store and played with the MyTouch 3G. All I can say guys is that photos do not do justice to it: it sat well in my hands, it had that weight to it to make it feel as a solid quality device, not a cheap plastic toy. Compared to it, G1 looked like something built in a garage out of vacuum spare parts.
The screen is certainly good, bright, menu is very responsive. I saw the "merlot" colored unit and I liked it. I would certainly get it, but my number one requirement for my next phone is support for the corporate email (MS Outlook), and according to the store sales guy My Touch #G does not support it. So, like many of you, I am waiting for Touch Pro2.
