T-Mobile Dash 3G slips into availability on T-Mobile's website

Well, there wasn't exactly much mystery left around this one, but it looks like the HTC-made Dash 3G (or Maple, or S522, or Snap) has now finally rolled its way into availability on T-Mobile's website, just as expected. While its full suggested price is $349.99, T-Mobile will gladly let this one go for just $169.99 on a two-year contract, which'll of course get you a Windows Mobile 6.1-based device with a full QWERTY keyboard, and plenty of niceties like built-in WiFi, GPS, Exchange support, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, and some nifty red accents and refined touches that certainly make the original Dash look a bit dated in comparison.

Epic...
Since Tmobile is continuing to do such a wonderful job at marketing their newest mobiles, I wonder if they purchased another sluggish processor mobile with the latest version of buggy WinMo? No need to change what Tmobile has been doing great at for so long...
The keyboard looks like the Pre's
The navigation looks like the Blackberry's
The name looks like the iPhone 3G's
and it's running Windows Mobile.
innovative!
1) No it doesn't. Are you blind or stupid?
2) No it isn't. I'm guessing you haven't used WM 6.1 and a Blackberry OS.
3) Are you serious.......... Mytouch 3g?
Yeah apple invented 3G (sarcasm)
Did I say that they invented it?
Can you name any other phone that has "3G" at the end of it?
HTC Touch 3G, Viva 3G
I think there might a Samsung and Nokia with 3G at the end of it also.
I don't think I could design anything uglier if I tried.
Luckily your parents were able to!

A good update to those who use the WinMo Smartphone (not Professional) platform.
Any indiaction if this is a tocuh screnn enabled phone? If not you can't release a smart phone with no touch screen capabilities in 2009 (I'm not bashing HTC, I love them, have a FUZE myself, but no touch screen on a smart phone is unnaceptable).
Start not accepting the Dash then. no touchie touchie
I think blackberrys function fine without touch screen. I really don't agree that ALL smartphones need touch screens, not even close
Yes, you simply need to look at the screen shot.
This is a screen shot of Windows Mobile Smartphone, which is the non-touchscreen version of Windows Mobile. If it was Windows Mobile Professional, then it would be a touchscreen device.
You can tell by the location of the Start menu. Professional is at the top (unless modified by the user) and Smartphone is on the bottom because it is usually connected to the hard buttons next to the Home and Back button on the phone.
Eh, in my humble opinion the non-touch version of WinMo is better than the touch version. I'd rather have this than a touchscreen WinMo 6.5 device.
Besides, Blackberries are the most popular business smartphones around and none of them have touchscreens (well, except for one, but we won't hold that against them).
If you never used the Dash or liked it, then this isn't marketed towards you...
I have one on these phones for work and I got to say it is really good for email. I get way to many emails a day and the main problem is finding the ones that matter. One button click and all emails from contacts that are not top priority are gone. I don't think this was made to compete with the pre or the iphone but similar email text phones more important companies.
No touch like I said in the msg below your this is for email
For once the Verizon version is the better than its other carrier siblings. The Verizon model comes in at about $100 less than this, while still keeping wifi(unlike the Sprint version) and having world capabilities(again Sprint model does not have it). Its really rare for a Verizon device.
While I've been wishing for a speed upgrade for my Dash just about ever since I got it,those prices are ridiculous on a 2 year contract. I originally paid $75 for my Dash. Funny, other than connection speed, the Dash still does just about everything I want it to AND works with my $4.99/month t-zones data subscription, though I would like to be able to use an SD card bigger than 2 GB. Glad to see the iphone starting to add features the Dash has had for over 2 years now (voice commands, etc.), but still no stereo wireless headset support. Don't know why everyone bitches about HTC's headset jack, when there's absolutely no reason to use wired headsets in the first place.
Head on over to xda-developers and install a hacked WinMo 6.1 rom on your old Dash. It comes with drivers that enable SDHC support, I was using an 8gb microSD card on my first gen Dash over 6 months ago.
I have the Dash too running win 6.1 hack. 6.1 made my dash 10 times better than the official 6.0 ROM. So much so that I stop being fidgety about replacing my beloved Dash and wait for better offerings to come. I am gonna zoom over a Tmo store to play with this snap though.
What can you view on this tiny screen beside a few line of text? I need to do more than just reading email!
Right. GPS feature is useless with a small screen unless the phone comes with a big magnifier. And who needs wifi for texting message.
I have an original Dash. I can't count the number of times it froze up, what with its lovely MS non-operating system.
It's MyTouch 3G for me next time, provided the reviews warrant it.
Debbie Downer here to report that this keyboard takes some serious getting used to. A very similar layout is used on the HTC Ozone that came out on Verizon. It's very frustrating, at first, due to the offset middle row (the comma key).
If you never used the Dash or liked it, then this isn't marketed towards you. Some ppl like simple phones that do what they want.
my old dash is fine, but a new dash would be better! i will wait for the slew of snapdragon devices coming, got to have a real keyboard, touch screen is so wonky
Just picked one of these up as a freebie at a T-Mobile shindig down in LA today. So far it's WinMo has crashed on me 3 times while viewing web pages and frozen while texting and receiving a phone call. The aesthetics of the device are a huge improvement over the old dash but I think that the OS is still somewhat of a hindrance to the hardware's capabilities.
