Video: USB powered chainsaw makes short work of a fake plastic tree

As far as USB gadgets go, this is one of the more unique ones, that's for sure. And while we usually don't have much opportunity to play with chainsaws 'round these parts (not in an official capacity, at least), the recently launched usbchainsaw.com has us wondering: perhaps we could stand to be a little more bloodthirsty in our Engadget labs torture testing -- if not for reasons of journalistic excellence, then at least for our own gratification. Of course, the i.Saw product website has all the hallmarks of a hoax -- but at least the video has provided some inspiration for the next time we're ready to wig out during a staff meeting. Check it out yourself after the break.

right the first time :)
While this is almost definately a hoax your questions are all easily solved with the same answer.
Its battery powered and the USB is just the charger. It would work much like a cordless drill and for a saw that size could even possibly be made using the same motor.
3: Because the tree-cutting was filmed using a prototype from the lab which uses Wireless USB, which (pending testing and certification) will make it into the i.Saw 2.G.
This would be great around the office:
- Opening those hard to open letters
- Cutting the crusts of your peanut butter sandwich
- Trimming your fern
- Threatening the work experience kid
- Shortening the legs on the office rivals chair
It's unfortunate that the i.Saw doesn't exist.
This will be great when your co-workers turn into zombies!

The video rehosted in case it doesn't load for you:

Fake. Look at the length of the blade, and then the length of the blade when they're cutting through the tree. You can tell whatever is cutting that tree is much longer.
Wish it were real though.
What an eyesore.

Its all about the branding.
erhm... The Male-to-Male plug gives it away even more :(. Too bad!!!
"The power of the chainsaw, re-engineered for the desktop"
LOL, best slogan ever.
cue Radiohead
Both times you see the blade cutting, it cuts to an extreme closeup, so it could be any small chainsaw blade... it's got to be a viral marketing of some sort... they will get your email address and send you info about something unrelated probably
Wow.... a Radiohead reference.
Pretty sure the shiny white USB cord is the same one that comes with iPods, and doesn't have that connector at both ends... Oops?
Hell, does anything use USB A to A cords? Everything I've got is is A to B, A to mini, or A to weird proprietary shit (lookin at you, dock connector).
What? No onboard memory storage?
You'd have thought they would throw in 8GB or something...?
looks like a hoax... (judging by the site)
USB 2.0 compatible? 5V is 5V be it USB 1.1, 2.0, etc., who cares if it's 2.0 compatible?
what does "Works on PC, Mac and most USB-enabled devices." mean? that you can destroy any of those devices? or that you can charge it from your cell phone? i think they were trying to say that it works with most USB power sources.
and "No payment is needed. A pre-order is not an obligation to purchase." umm, yeah, hu?
thats dangerous
Who needs guns? Just strap a laptop to your back and WHAM! Instant zombie killing spree!
Check the pre-orders section, as NOBODY suspected, a hoax...
