Rupert Murdoch staying out of the e-reader business, Red Eye sadly still on the air

With the news biz in obvious (and some might say terminal) disarray, of course folks in the industry will be seeking out ways to stay afloat in the age of the e-reader -- and it's long been rumored that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is looking to launch a device of its own (if by "long" you mean "since early April or thereabouts"). When asked yesterday if this was the case, Murdoch answered: "I don't think that's likely. We're looking and talking to a lot of laboratories and big companies around the world like Sony, Fujitsu, Samsung. We're all working on wireless readers for books or for newspapers or for magazines. I think they're a year or two away, being marketed in a mass way, high quality ones. And we will be absolutely neutral. We're very happy to have our products distributed over any device provided it's only going to subscribers who are paying for it." Of course, the man may have some sort of diabolical scheme up his sleeve (when doesn't he, really?), but for the time being, he says, the Wall Street Journal is doing "very well... you've got the wallstreetjournal.com and you pay for it. And there is 1.25 million people nearly who are doing that. And we get a lot of advertising with it. It's a big business for us." So it's more likely that we'll see more News Corp papers adopting an online subscription model before the advent of any Fox News e-ink device. But if it does get in the hardware business, we'll gladly shell out for a Glenn Beck signature model. But only if it's ironic.

Is this a post by Jesus Diaz? I thought this was Engadget, not Gizmodo.
Glenn Beck disproved the Fema Camps. Not the other way around, as it was misreported by your Obama loving press. Glenn Beck has been attacking conspiracy theorist, and both parties since 2004. Its a shame that so many people who don't listen to him attack him for being what he is not. Just because they heard it on CNN.If you were truly intelligent, you could listen to both sides with an "open-mind" and without prejudice and with tolerance and come to your own opinion. But those liberal buzz words only apply to people who agree with you, right?
Thank You so much Engadget for stepping into an arena where you do not belong. But I guess Obama owns you too, now.

Red Eye is a awesome show so please don't diss it.
Stay out of politics Engadget. People who read your forum have to afford to pay for these gadgets. Therefore, they have to ignore fallacious idealistic ideas and actually work for their money. For the factual, in-depth reporting you do on the tiniest gadgets, perhaps you could expand that to the political sphere. Glenn Beck is honest, sincere, and reports the facts. Follow his example please, and discontinue ad hominem attacks.
Glenn Beck is the only person who can make the rabid Apple fanboy commenters here look normal by comparison
I would like to start a "Fire Flatley" petition for that anti Red Eye business. What's wrong brosef? Is Red Eye just too over that Flatley noggin' of yours? There's entertainment there d-bag!!!!!
It seems to me that a lot of the conservatives have turned into a bunch of whiney little children over the last few years. Anytime someone says something that you don't agree with you turn the indignation warble up to 11.
As opposed to the constant whining and indignation the past 15 years by the likes of CNN-MSNBC-ABC-CBS-NBC-NYT-PBS-WaPo-BoGlo-and-on-and-on-and-on.
And the constant whining by the Obama administration about the current situation is the fault of the Bush administration?
It's about time Conservatives started standing up to all of the ridiculous BS perpetrated by the left.
whose glad we still have freedom of speech??
Someone should make sure Greg knows about this thread. I am not sure if he knows of anyone who can write a sentence who watches his show.
I love Red Eye. That show is hilarious. Screw you engadget.
Red Eye is the best entertainment on Television. The legs doesn't get enough airtime though. :-)
"Legs Chair"
You guys are sickos. Red Eye and Glenn Beck are the best shows on Cable news you dorks. Try watching them before casting judgments based on whatever you read in the Huffington Post.
Beck is a kraut.Enough said.
Wow, I can understand people not liking Beck, but there is a whole lot of just plain bullshit and lies going around here.
@Blacksheep: yes, he did talk about FEMA death camps... He got together with popular mechanics to shut the real crazies up and debunk a bunch of crazy rumors going around about government concentration camps. People kept writing him to tell him about the so-called death camps and he got tired of it, so he decided to look into it even though he didn't think it would be true. You might think him crazy for looking into it (although unlike the MSM, he thought to check, which IMHO is what the MSM should do instead of biasing their research by choosing sources that confirm their pre-existing conceptions), but don't you dare suggest that he said they existed when he took the time and effort to do the very opposite. About those Chinese sleeper cells... show me some evidence or go back to you cannabis.
@loosely_coupled: If you knew anything about history, you'd understand that Fascism was usually accompanied by Socialism. That is a verifiable fact. The Nazi, Mussolini, etc. were socialists. But I'm sure an intelligent reader like yourself already knew that.
Finally to all those (including loosely_coupled who lives up to his name) who suggest that Beck was a fan of Bush, I'd suggest that you do the tiniest bit of back ground research before shooting your mouths off. He did complain while Bush was president and continues to honestly go after Republicans where his ideology compels him. He's a classical liberal/libertarian, not a brainwashed, partisan drone.
Also, Engadget, please keep this kind of flame bait off of here. I come here to read about technology not have you take cheap shots at a particular ideology.
mojoDN,
Regarding all of your comments - well put! It's great to hear some other conservative voices out there.
Engadget, could you elaborate on "Red Eye sadly still on the air?"
ummm... conservatives? you had your turn... and YOU FCKED IT RIGHT UP!!! such a bunch of whiney losers, jesus christ!
@danyuul You are missing the point. RedEye is not germane to NewsCorp's development of eBooks. Why does engadget feel the need to inject their politics into gadgetry? If Mr. Flatley posted this without engadget approval; a correction must be made and their story publishing information system updated to require review and editorial approval. When the NYT or WSJ makes a mistake they publish a correction and all proper news outlets have editors who manage the publication of articles. If this was approved by engadget then they may be considered partisan hacks.
Red Eye is the best thing since sliced bread.
