Modern Warfare 2's Prestige Edition includes fully functioning night vision goggles
Now this is how you do a special edition. Activision and Infinity Ward look to be going all out for its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "Prestige Edition," with not only the usual accoutrements like a special casing and an art book, but also what is described by Community Manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling as a "fully functioning NVGs -- night vision goggles." No idea how well they work, but it's got alternating modes and MW2 branding. That's pretty awesome, but we gotta imagine it's gonna demand a pretty penny -- this is definitely more than that $80 "collector's edition" for $80 GameStop is currently listing. You won't be able to get your actual hands on the game until November at the earliest, so in the meantime, hit up the read link to get a glimpse of the "official" unboxing.
Update: Joystiq's reporting it's gonna cost $149.99 for the prestige bundle.

FIRST.
This is crap. Normal edition for me please.
Aguiluz @ Jul 13th 2009 9:46PM
Your comment is crap.
Frostblade10 @ Jul 13th 2009 9:56PM
Lol, that's not very nice. At least he was on topic after "FIRST"
Your comment was more pointless than his, you didnt even care to contribute to the posting.
Anyways, it's hard to imagine $20 NVGs. But I also can't see them putting the most utterly shitty NVGs in a bundle like this.
I guess ill wait for a hands-on. Engadget? Will you snag one of these and do a review of it?
Quantumphysics @ Jul 13th 2009 10:09PM
This is unnescessary. After the monster of a game CoD4 was, they don't have to do anything to get people to line up to buy it except announce it. This game doesn't need hype. This game is gonna go Platinum weeks prior to release.
Aguiluz @ Jul 13th 2009 10:12PM
I just can't resist posting a comment there.
Ok... I suck.
Templarian @ Jul 13th 2009 10:31PM
@Quantumphysics, agreed. But there is that opportunity to make a little extra off a select few and they are going to do their best.
Frostblade10 @ Jul 13th 2009 11:09PM
Yeah, after they pull down their pants. Perfect for those times you are in the dark closet of an undressing co-ed.
OneLove @ Jul 14th 2009 12:54AM
But did they handle all the hacking bullshit?
For years I swore I would NEVER be a gamer. I said it was lame, I laughed at the expensive equipment and constant expensive upgrading.
...But then I met cod4 MW and before i knew it I was 10 upgrades deep, 295 GTX, core i7, watercooled and losing sleep every night.
..Alas the constant PC hacking has spolit it for me and I find it very frustating they havent spent more time to fix this plague.
- Just my take.
OneLove @ Jul 14th 2009 12:57AM
omg, why does "fourzerotwo" sound like hes drunk? lol.
SimbaDogg @ Jul 14th 2009 1:11AM
oh gah'd...no way did he refer to infinity ward as "i-dub". something about that bothers me
blueangel00100 @ Jul 13th 2009 9:39PM
iWANT and i will BUY!!!
Fir3lord @ Jul 13th 2009 10:12PM

SOCOMRAIDER @ Jul 13th 2009 11:18PM
Should be an Engadget give away! Both a PS3 and 360 version.

Gregorian @ Jul 13th 2009 9:40PM
Hopefully it makes the "PweeeeeEEEEEEE" noise when you turn it on.
Seanross @ Jul 13th 2009 9:46PM
I second this motion... although I'm sure i'd want the option to turn it off.
Jeff R @ Jul 14th 2009 12:02AM
hahaha, if it does, im in.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII (BarCODE) @ Jul 14th 2009 5:59AM
Real military Night Vision make zero noise when turned on. Not even the switch makes a peep.
Kev - LG @ Jul 14th 2009 8:38AM
These night vision goggles seem a little weird looking - surely they're supposed to have three green lights on the front, that you can see perfectly but are somehow invisible to bad guys?
In other news. I WANT THIS.
WiiFTW @ Jul 13th 2009 9:41PM
I put on the NVGs and-
JIZZ IN MY PANTS
Happymunting @ Jul 13th 2009 10:24PM

Esteban @ Jul 13th 2009 11:35PM
A truly fantastic comment. Well done sir. haha
Amun @ Jul 14th 2009 2:32AM
You realize that these will be nothing more than a crappy CCD with some infrared lights and a lame plastic housing, right? You could probably make one that works better for $15.
Prove me wrong, Activision.
Cal @ Aug 4th 2009 9:34AM
seriously everyone, dont expect actual night vision like in the actual game. That is what military grade generation 3 night vision looks like. I would be willing to bet everything i own that these arent even 1st generation night vision. These are without a doubt like Amun said based on IR lights.
dalek_caan1 @ Aug 9th 2009 11:45AM
THAT DEMO'S A SPY!
Roncore @ Jul 13th 2009 9:43PM
Think of all the money I could save on my electric bill...
ajy0903 @ Jul 13th 2009 9:44PM
Does PC version of this game will also have collectors edition that will includes that XBOX 360 version of this game, which is the one that shows in the video?
NeoK-182 @ Jul 13th 2009 10:13PM
The PC version is confirmed to have the collectors steal box edition, the 'hardenend edition' as it's now called. This new prestige edition is not confirmed for the PC and since no mention of the PC is given at all i'm going to say that it's probably just 360/PS3
leland @ Jul 13th 2009 9:44PM
Nightvision goggles will still not help you find a girlfriend.
azhyen @ Jul 13th 2009 9:51PM
It will at night!
Shadowfox952 @ Jul 13th 2009 9:53PM
It'll help you stalk her though.
Samboini @ Jul 14th 2009 4:25PM
It'll also help me traverse my mum's basement with the lights out.
DanielT @ Jul 13th 2009 9:46PM
Having sex while owning this will not happen.
ric @ Jul 14th 2009 6:10AM
*willing* sex, that is
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jul 14th 2009 9:31AM
having sex while wearing it will though.
LostMyLegsInNam @ Jul 13th 2009 9:48PM
I'm not saying night vison goggles aren't a cool bundle, but this would've been so much better if they'd bundled a fully functioning gun instead...
Gibblitz @ Jul 14th 2009 12:47PM
Or you can just improvise and say you got that M4 you hide in your closet to keep the bullies away came with it.
Nica @ Jul 13th 2009 9:48PM
holy crap that is sick...
i'm going to take a wild guess, $120 bucks? so much money...
but it's so sick...
oh man, i'm way too tempted to pick this version up
jeeptree @ Jul 14th 2009 9:50AM
Im guessing more in the 200.00 or more rang.
videonevin @ Jul 13th 2009 9:48PM
I wish we had these when we were 13!
Better yet, we have them when were 40.
A_N_T_H_O_N_Y @ Jul 13th 2009 11:09PM
Wrong. Real quote:
- Can you imagine if we had these when we were twelve?
- Even better, we got 'em when we're forty.
Esteban @ Jul 13th 2009 11:37PM
@A_N_T_H_O_N_Y
douche
mark @ Jul 14th 2009 8:32PM
lol, good one
Rubbinz @ Jul 13th 2009 9:49PM
The NVG's are the same as the cheap toy version that's been out on the market for a while now. They're less functional than the Gen 1 scopes that were used in Vietnam. I'll stick with my Gen 3 NVG and scope mounted on my M4.
