Activision and Infinity Ward look to be going all out for its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "Prestige Edition," with not only the usual accoutrements like a special casing and an art book, but also what is described by Community Manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling as a "fully functioning NVGs -- night vision goggles." No idea how well they work, but it's got alternating modes and MW2 branding. That's pretty awesome, but we gotta imagine it's gonna demand a pretty penny -- this is definitely more than that $80 "collector's edition" for $80 GameStop is currently listing. You won't be able to get your actual hands on the game until November at the earliest, so in the meantime, hit up the read link to get a glimpse of the "official" unboxing.
Update:Joystiq's reporting it's gonna cost $149.99 for the prestige bundle.
Its a simple CCD camera with no Lowpass filter and infrared illuminators, for a range of 20-30 feet, it will work in much the same way infrared remote controls appear to be blinking on some video cameras when pointed at them no way is it a real night vision device with an image intensifier tube.
It's a digital camera based NV... You could see the design... Small aperture lens, and infra-red LED's floating around the outside.
Then you could see the "square" lenses of the "video glasses" on the inside... Basically a NV camera with a set of video goggles and some IR leds to make it work at night...
It will have a distance of around 5m. Not very useful at night, outside, but more than suitable inside pretty much any house. And if it's cheap enough, it's still pretty cool :) You could make them yourself, but those looked pretty good.
The LEDs will glow with a dull red BTW... At least when you look directly at them, so it's not exactly covert...
If you want more range, you can get a handheld NV torch, or maybe two or three. That will extend your range quite a bit. Keep in mind these things usually suck batteries dry like you wouldn't believe.
On the good side, it will work just fine during the day, so you can run around in the daylight while looking like a complete idiot, because you're wearing night vision goggles.
If they are sub-$200, it's not that bad a deal. And the goggles, even as cheap as I expect they are, would still be pretty cool to show people. Look up the "Eye-Clops" night vision toy as an example of this tech.

It’s for a collector just like the Halo Helm. Did that also suck cause u couldn’t use it in space? Im going to get it just because it does look kind of cool and it's only $150.
