Nokia's Surge official on AT&T, ships July 19 for $79.99
We've known about Nokia's so-called Surge for months now, but at long last, AT&T has done its duty by making things official and giving us a price and release date to consider. The Symbian S60-based smartphone is aimed squarely at social media freaks, boasting a full QWERTY keyboard, a browser with Flash support (imagine that, right?), a pre-installed JuiceCaster app for easily updating your Facebook / Twitter status and a price tag that's sure to turn heads. For just $79.99 after rebate, you'll also get a 2 megapixel camera, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Video Share and the pleasure of handing over at least $30 per month for a required data plan (if you want the $50 rebate, anyway). If you're sold already, you can get yours on July 19th.

I think it looks fine. Definitely different from the bunch of iPhone inspired designs out there with a silver trim and all.
Completely agree.
=]
Designed in the U.S. to AT&T specs. Not content with ruining the firmware with branding, AT&T decided to ruin the design of phones too.
Could not have put it better myself.
I think this is a good step forward for Nokia in US. People complain here
about the looks. Well its not that bad as you think, especially the price you will
pay. Though its $79 with $30 dataplan, it will be offered free(or may be make money) for sure at many
online retailers without dataplan. Just look, how E71 is being offered free
without any rebates, without dataplan at online retailers.
Any S60 is by no chance, a weaker OS, its as much and more capable than
iphone OS currently. They are even adding better aesthetics too now.
Since its designed accd. to AT&T specs, i think they have removed Wi-fi? Is it?
Else i am sure, Nokia would have included wi-fi too in this phone, like all their recent
smartphones even lower ends like 5530Xpressmusic.
the problem is that NOKIA is almost unknown in US market and with $99 iPhone price it is easy choice - everybody will go for iPhone
yes, NOKIA is making great phones, yes symbian has some great features, still. If AT&T would offer it without DATA PLAN and with WIFI, I probably would buy it. Why in the world would I get this when I can get iPhone or BB Bold for not that much more?
"the problem is that NOKIA is almost unknown in US market"
Are you kidding me?
Even though Nokia isn't big in the U.S. nowadays, doesn't mean people don't know what they do and who they are.
Remember about seven or eight years ago when everybody in the U.S. had a Nokia candybar? Yeah.
I can almost ask just about anybody about Nokia in the U.S. and they would be able to tell me that they make phones.
Ignorance is not bliss.
Nokia Candybar has nothing to do with Smartphone Market. Except few people who follow this stuff, nobody knows what Nokia E75 or N97 is. Ask your mom if she knows Nokia E75 and iPhone 3GS
The fact is that Nokia lost US smartphone market and tries to get it back. Unless they offer something amazing, they won't get it back. One way would be to offer semi-smart phones with no data plan and allow users to use WIFI. This is of course something AT&T will never offer. I have tons of Friends in Europe who use Nokia smart phones, lot of them have no data plan and use strictly WIFI access only.
Yes, symbian is good OS but does not offer that much new amazing stuff in comparison to BB or iPhone. That's why nobody is going to buy this in US.
Like the new palm thing, people don't like to have to pull out a keyboard to type.
Who would this buy when one could get an iPhone 3G for $99?
That really is the ugliest phone I have ever seen in my life
That really is the ugliest phone I have ever seen in my life
Definitely not the iPhone killer.
SUUURRGGE!
