ASUS dabbles in HDTV arena with 1080p TV Monitor T1 series
It's not that ASUS hasn't dipped its toes in HDTV waters before (by the way, whatever happened to that altogether enticing Eee TV?), but we dare say that the TV Monitor T1 is a fresh, if not unsurprising new direction for the company. Arriving in 22- (22T1E), 24- (24T1E) and 27-inch (27T1E) sizes, this trio of sets features a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) panel, a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 300 nits of brightness, five millisecond response time, built-in TV tuners (for the UK market) and a pair of seven-watt speakers. As for sockets, you'll find VGA, HDMI (x2), component, composite, S-Video and even a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. Per usual, ASUS is refusing to dole out pricing and release date information, but hopefully it won't be long before Britons can indulge (and North Americans are notified of an NTSC-capable version).

I really hope they don't introduce it with an NTSC tuner. Don't think anyone would use it ;)
US just dropped NTSC,other countries will keep using it for many years.
This already smells like poop.
why exactly? i have a 26" ASUS monitor and its pretty damn nice
Why would they even bother with an NTSC tuner? It is an officially dead technology with no use unless you have some seriously old hardware to connect.
"not unsurprising" means its surprising. I'm not sure which one you meant, because I'm not surprised by it considering their past, which you highlighted. Double negatives for the lose.
You think too much...
"is a fresh, if not unsurprising new direction for the company"
he was referring to "fresh," as in the direction of the company, in this.
lrn2enlish idiot.
I was scared for a second:

I think they should start with getting their CSS correct (http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=WMsfzwYhCudWBxtr) and then worry about HDTV's.
I am partial to this. I have been pleased with Asus motherboards, but when companies enter new territory, you can't really base it on the fact that they have had good products in the past. They are new, and I hope they don't stain their name.
What's wrong with their css?
Their website in general is trash IMO.
Yeah I really wish more hardware manufacturers put more money into their CSS and not R&D.
why would you need 1080p for a TV under 40''
-_- pointless.
Lower the price and give me 720p and I'll never notice the difference.
(Yes I Realize the resolution benefits if you are hooking up/using a computer via HDMI, but this is being advertised as a TV not a Monitor)
I'm honestly in the market for one of these to use as both a TV and a secondary computer monitor. When I need a second monitor, I definitely want 1920x1080. When I don't need to use a second monitor, I can use it as a TV, which I would like to do.
So, not really pointless for me.
well it is called the TV Monitor T1 series. lots of 22' monitors have 1920x1200 so whats wrong here
Yeah Asus LCDs are quality...
except that they sent me a broken LCD and made me pay 20 bucks to ship their broke LCD back to them...
...and then posted a non-existent RMA support email on their website...
...and then performed site maintenance while I was trying to find a real RMA support email address...
Sounds like you are a rare case. ASUS covered an accidental spill and drop of my younger's Eee PC almost 2 years after her purchase of it and it was replaced free of charge. Gotta love that free accidental coverage.
That is pretty impressive.
My beef is that they sent me a defective product and made me pay to ship it back to them (a whopping 20 bucks for a 17 lb package)...and as I understand that is the standard procedure for RMAs. Poor business practice in my opinion and probably won't buy from them again.
Also I implore anyone to find an email that I can send feedback to on the ASUS website. It is simply not there, for U.S. customers at least. No general support or RMA support. I get an auto reply saying that rma@asus.com doesn't exist, which is the address they provided.
Asus, Hint. The bezel is too thick! Thin bezels are where its at now. Just sayin...
makes me wish i hadn't bought my 28 inch hanns g monitor.
Fugly imo, ASUS makes great product but design is not their cup of tea.

Is it my screen? the grill(?) at the bottom looks all corroded or something. Is anybody else seeing it that way? If so who's digging that?
is this gonna be their typical tn panel or something better?
No DVI???
There is a review on a Romanian website. You can check it out with Google Translate.

It has no DVI. The panel is PVA or MVA. The front grill that covers the speakers looks like is decorated with flowers. The image quality is more than decent, but the panel is not suited for games. The speakers are powerfull and they sound really nice. The tuner is hybrid. It searches both on the analog and the digital bands. No price yet, not even in Romania.
