Screen Grabs: the G1 gets some serious love on 'Weeds' and 'True Blood'
Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

If you're unfamiliar with either Showtime's series Weeds or HBO's True Blood, we'll catch you up to speed really quickly. The former is about a widowed housewife living in California who sells stolen gadgets to make ends meet for her family, while the latter is a Southern-fried tale of a Louisiana town infested with vampires plus a cute young woman who can see the future, and uses her power to predict Nokia's product roadmap for 2010. No? Well, that's what we thought we saw. We'll tell you this much: we definitely spotted the G1 in both shows this week. Yes, in Weeds Andy took a call from Nancy, and boom! Android screen, while on True Blood, Eric did some evil, tanktopped talking on his own. Who knew vampires were nerds? Second shot is after the break.
[Thanks, Brendan]

I love Weeds and I love my G1! HELLZ YEAH
Thats was the funniest scene. lafayette drinks erics blood, heals and start humping the furniture.
Since when did Nancy start selling stolen gadgets? I thought she sold, well.. weed?
Ah haha, I swear your comment wasn't there when I posted. At least I wasn't the only confused one!
lol quite alright.. we all know the comment system here is as reliable as a wet paper bag
You've got to read the whole post before you comment next time. It was a joke! Sure, not a particularly funny one, and it actually had me confused... until I read the bit about True Blood later in the same sentence.
ps. just going on the record as saying I think Nancy is pretty hot lol..
You guys should never listen to my synopses of television shows. Ever.
"The former is about a widowed housewife living in California who sells stolen gadgets to make ends meet for her family"
I've never seen the show but I always assumed that she sold... weed.
Yeah, she sells weed, and as of the most recent season she was living in Texas...
I'm pretty sure she still lives in California... Ren Mar, California.
Either people don't understand sarcasm, even when it's spelled out, or they can't manage to read the whole paragraph before commenting. I'm guessing it's the latter.
@SABRAGE Nice for ruining it. Maybe next time, you should put a *SPOILER* before you post that comment. You ruined it for me and those who are adding Weeds Seasons 3, 4, and 5 on their queue. :)
I think Nancy was calling from her iphone in the same shot.
Yes, she was. It's interesting because it seemed like Shotime shows used Boost Mobile phones in everything for a long time, I guess that's over and now they just use whatever phones are handy. Seems less likely that they would have deals with both T-Mobile and AT&T for the same show.
Nobody in True Blood sees the future, but I'm glad you pointed out the G1. As a True Blood fan and hopeless nerd, I'm sad that I missed it.
I noticed that, too. Sookie can read minds not see the future. This post is kind of full of misinformation.
Nancy doesn't sell stolen gadgets - she used to have a comfortable suburban life selling weed, but is now struggling to keep her family alive since ratting out the her lover, the mayor of Tijuana, a major kingpin in trafficking across the border and whose child she is carrying. And that's just the main plotline. It's an awesome show - I highly recommend it!
dang, that is a lot of notifications
heh, i was thinking the same thing. i don't think i've ever had that many notifications on my G1. then again, in nancy's profession, i'm sure her phone is constantly blowing up.
That's Andy's phone. He doesn't have a profession, and Nancy was using an iPhone.
Geez, guys, you couldn't tell they were kidding with the Nokia reference and "No? Well, that's what we thought we saw." ...
weeds this season has been MEH, btw, dude has a ton of status icons going on at the top, looks like he's downloaded a few apps, has a text, some voicemails, wi-fi, and bluetooth on, probably some other things too.
oh and true blood has some of THE worst acting.
he's got a lot of notifications going on there
Does everyone really not see that she wasn't really being serious about the stuff written?
love both shows!
Does everyone really not see that she wasn't really being serious about writing that?
secondary fail
I pointed out the G1 to my girlfriend while we were watching True Blood. Of course, a wise 1000 year old vampire would pick an Android phone over an iPhone.
And, seriously, what the hell is up with the 20 notifications Nancy has on hers? Weed dealing must require many different apps, messages and emails...
It was Andy's phone, not Nancy's. Andy doesn't deal weed. =EPIC FAIL
Vampires and potheads do love anything open source.
Weeds also had a Zune reference last week which was probably the most interesting part of the ep. The writing on that show is getting a little thin.
Getting? You mean since season 3, when Nancy started becoming completely unlikeable?
Although, the second episode of this season was the worst ever so far...
Acting and writing still better than True Blood. HBO should cancel that and make a Near Dark miniseries...
Nancy has an iPhone on weeds. You could see her talking on it while she was leaving a message for Andy. This is a few minutes after Andy turns around to pick up his G1 and look at the screen to see Nancy calling. That phone (the G1) is Andy's. There have also been numerous iPhone sightings in Weeds as well.
TrueBlood also has a mix of both. There have been several iPhones shown on the show along with the G1. The G1 Eric has is the first time seen. Seems everyone on the show has a Motorola Razr it seems.
In the first season of True Blood, Eric can be seen at the club texting away on a T-Mo Sidekick like a lil teeny bopper
For the record.... He didn't take the call.
in weeds Nancy sells weed, i demand a correction!!!!
You clearly failed English class in school. Both references to TV shows contain *spoof* corrections that relate their settings to gadgets, as opposed to their real situation. Do you REALLY think someone on True Blood makes predictions about Nokia phones? Having never seen that show I can tell you, the point of the article is obvious. =EPIC FAIL
The G1 looks the same on tv as it does in my hand!!!
*squeeeee*
No one sees the future in True Blood. Sooky reads minds. Please do research before saying these things.
cool
And you can do yours, too. It's Sookie.
Oh, no. I can't believe I've resorted to flaming in the comments section for Engadget posts about a cell phone showing up in a TV show about Vampires. What has my life become?
Nancy's name seems big...my G1 doesn't make the names so big when I'm getting a call haha
just bought season one of true blood on dvd today
I saw Eric's phone on the show the other night but I thought it was a sidekick II
your description and pictures make me confused,I know Nancy(widowed housewife living in California) sells weeds, but stolen gadgets?what the hell
