AMD Phenom II TWKR Black Edition CPU up for auction, sure to fetch a bundle
Remember that AMD Phenom II X4 TWKR processor that we saw overclocked and reviewed just over a fortnight ago? Don't you recall reading and wondering why you were even wasting your time given the scarcity of said chip? It took awhile, but it seems the justification you've been searching for has finally arrived. AMD only manufactured a smattering of these chips in order for select media outlets to showcase the company's potential, and somehow one has found its way onto eBay. Best of all, 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit a charity (Family Eldercare), so you can feel good about spending way, way too much on a slab of silicon. Tap the read link if you care to drive the price up even further (and you know you do).

Everytime is see that name TWKR processor, I think of a super-skinny, overly-hyper CPU with bad skin and no money asking me for change. Damn Tweakers...

Can someone explain to Ebay what 100% means?
'100% of the final sale price will support Family Eldercare (Small deduction may apply. Learn more)'
At the current bid they take about $385....not bad against most charities but still not 100%.
cj100570 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:41PM
Really? eBay is a business! They make money off the seller paying a percentage of the sale price of his/her item. They have nothing to do with the "proceeds" of the auction or it's charitable status. So, you can't blame them for taking their cut.
Eric Schneider @ Jul 15th 2009 1:06PM
The fact that they're going to charge for the auction is fine, but it's still poorly phrased. They should say that 100% of the profits will go to charity instead of the sale price. The price doesn't change because of the fees, so the phrasing doesn't stay true.
Gipionocheiyort @ Jul 15th 2009 2:12PM
Yes I was just pointing out the phrasing...not passing judgment on them for making money.
Gipionocheiyort @ Jul 15th 2009 2:15PM
To be fair I just ran the auction through this:
http://www.ebaygivingworks.com/about-donationamount.html
And it does show the missionfish share as $0 and the amount to charity as $7,200.
Not sure if this means that those fees don't apply (it only said they MAY apply before) or not...but I figured it was worth mentioning.
alex @ Jul 15th 2009 12:30PM
I just check the auction and the current bid is $6,600
Siva @ Jul 15th 2009 12:14PM
$6,600????
richb93 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:41PM
I prefer Q6600 ;)
mikeszekely @ Jul 15th 2009 12:21PM
What time is it? I don't know, because I don't have this watch.
mikeszekely @ Jul 15th 2009 12:24PM
Nevermind.
@fieldcar
I swear that's how I got here. Clicked the recession antidote, made a comment, read some other comments that didn't seem relevant to watches, scrolled up, and saw I was in a post about that ultra rare Phenom processor.
fieldcar @ Jul 15th 2009 12:54PM
Heh, happens to the best of us.
Wwhat @ Jul 16th 2009 12:01PM
And the rest of us.

Wrong thread
Mike @ Jul 15th 2009 12:40PM
I think this is the real recession antidote. Seriously, between the OQO that went for $4,500 and this CPU which will go for over $6,000, some people just have a pile of cash that they want to piss through.
danielkim @ Jul 15th 2009 12:44PM
Even though 100% of the final sale price will support a non-profit organization, those who bid over $2k are nuts!
ZaxCG2 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:54PM
You posted this today just so you could say fortnight, didn't you?
Good reason.
movilefreak @ Jul 15th 2009 1:00PM
woooo
Omar @ Jul 15th 2009 1:09PM
LOL read the ebay page:
"AMD is not responsible for any overclocking addiction caused by the uber headroom in this part"
kal326 @ Jul 15th 2009 1:37PM
Anybody else think its a weird mash up of a charity that raises money to help people stay cool with fans and air conditioning is auctioning off an item that requires EXTREME cooling methods?
Khariff @ Jul 15th 2009 3:13PM
My wrist is bare........
TomServo @ Jul 15th 2009 5:49PM
Excuse my language, but $7,500!!???? HOLY FUCKDICKS!
Joel Kapersky @ Jul 16th 2009 8:49PM
