Calvin Klein gets into the Crapgadget biz

Yup, we see a ton of flash drives round here -- but this is the first one we've seen from the august house of Calvin Klein. Somehow, these sunglasses with a 4GB flash drive stuffed into the right stem are simultaneously uninteresting and horrifying to us... though we certainly enjoy the mental imagery of spotting someone sporting these while half a stem-piece is jammed into their laptop. If you're enough of a fashion victim to consider purchasing these bad boys, they'll be unleashed on the waiting world in October, and run you about $200.

First, Awful looking sunglasses.
Second, Only 4 gigs?
cuzzie222 @ Jul 15th 2009 11:16AM
I see what you did there...
broli @ Jul 15th 2009 11:42AM
Second, Is not that bad.
ReaperRob @ Jul 15th 2009 11:51AM
It would be funny if I had realized it would be the first post. I was just organizing my opinions.
slamEVIL @ Jul 15th 2009 11:56AM
i was all ready to see where to buy them until i saw the price! :O
MetalBLACKFOX @ Jul 15th 2009 1:45PM
007 time
konshuss @ Jul 15th 2009 6:06PM
Pointless. Why not have a bluetooth headset built in instead? There's zero practicality in wearing 4gigs of your storage precariously above your ear.
Sisyphus @ Jul 15th 2009 11:12AM
My how the mediocre have fallen.
FAP FAP FAP @ Jul 15th 2009 11:18AM
all your base
Sanskrit @ Jul 15th 2009 11:14AM
If you manage to lose the cap on THIS one, you must look really stupid.
floydpink7 @ Jul 15th 2009 11:20AM
A tiny piece of string would pretty much solve the problem...
ProfessorKaos @ Jul 15th 2009 11:15AM
Come on, they could have done better on the design job there, unless black rim eye glasses are making a comback from the 60's
ToasT @ Jul 15th 2009 11:49AM
They are. Everyone's wearing them this summer.
lawyer bird @ Jul 15th 2009 12:12PM
Yeah, take off your Oakleys and look around man.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Jul 15th 2009 12:49PM
Actually, 'tards wearing neon-framed plastic glasses like you'd buy at a gas station in 1988 is the trend this year.
I think it's okay to go ahead and shoot 'em.
Cru Cavage @ Jul 15th 2009 1:23PM
You call them tards, but those are the exact kind of people reading this website to begin with! Now that its "trendy" to be a nerd.
Maeztro @ Jul 15th 2009 11:15AM
Bond, James Bond. Put this on a regular pair of glasses and it's the perfect espionage tool!
Freakin Ijit @ Jul 15th 2009 11:41AM
Perfect for passing through Customs, who nowadays reserve the right (!) to take any mass storage devices from you and search them.
chris @ Jul 15th 2009 3:32PM
But can you blame them? You may have a killer porn collection or a good movie on your laptop that
they haven't watched yet.
Benson @ Jul 15th 2009 7:23PM
Carmichael, Charles Carmichael.
I hate Bryce Larkin.
Teslanaut @ Jul 15th 2009 11:17AM
I'm surprised that it's not a diamond studded USB/FireWire/eSata/Ethernet/Wifi Dingdong(doe).
Ekauq @ Jul 15th 2009 11:18AM
now if the bridge had a hidden camera that recorded to the built in flash...you'd still look just as stupid, maybe if you looked like elliott gould
dan2600 @ Jul 15th 2009 11:24AM
i guess its better then hiding your USB drives in a thermos
Paul Hoza @ Jul 15th 2009 4:17PM
... or in your nether regions.
cburke5 @ Jul 15th 2009 11:26AM
yes, they do look pretty lame.. BUT, these glasses actually ARE making a come back.. along with some other really bad looking sunglasses.. really lame though for CC to get into this sort of business... chances are, anyone who would purchase these, already has an 8gb+ usb drive... so.. thumbs down to CC for this one
cjwild @ Jul 15th 2009 12:02PM
CC?
cK**
joe23521 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:59PM
Oh please, can't you just let poor Circuit City rest in peace?
Rogue_Genius @ Jul 15th 2009 11:36AM
I clearly need to spend money on expensive sunglasses so I can feign coolness while storing those many important documents of mine. I am a nerd AND I am stylish. Look at me!
Indyaner @ Jul 15th 2009 11:41AM
Bre? Is it you?
profeteer @ Jul 15th 2009 11:38AM
$200?! I can do that for $30. USB stick + Fugly 7-11 sunglasses + tape.
Ta-da! Looks better, too.
AutumnBringer @ Jul 15th 2009 11:48AM
Calvin Klein's no friend of mine,
I don't wear his name on my behind.
... or noggin.
cjwild @ Jul 15th 2009 12:01PM
whats wrong with these? i don't see anything wrong with styling, if anything this is the "wayfarer" look that so many people are going for now. plus double functionality? how could you not love stylish retina defense and brain retention in one neat little package? sure the price is ridiculous, but considering most designer glasses go for $200+ regardless, this would be a buy with included drive.
robbbb @ Jul 15th 2009 12:05PM
Stylish, indeed. Thanks, I'll just run away, fast as I can.
cburke5 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:05PM
yea.. them too... i'm a tech guy.. not a fashion guy.. lol
cburke5 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:09PM
i'm not turned away by the price at all, like some ppl have voiced.. good sunglasses cost 200 bucks.. i have an eye condition which causes me to have to wear sunglasses ALL the time.. so, I invest in good glasses.. most money i've spent on shades was $400.. then one of my student accidentally broke them... so now i stick to the 100-200 dollar range.. ppl, you cant protect your eyes with the cheap 10 dollar glasses you get at the gas station... your eyes are too important, protect them properly
ZaxCG2 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:50PM
What tech geek would want this? We stay inside all day!
dansolow @ Jul 15th 2009 12:52PM
Now we know where Kim Jong Il is keeping all of the secrets they are stealing...
Me @ Jul 15th 2009 1:00PM
So that's why David Caruso keeps taking his sunglasses off...
jim @ Jul 15th 2009 1:08PM
Now you can loose your sunglasses AND your data
David Graham @ Jul 15th 2009 1:03PM
These would look cool with a piece of white tape between the lenses.
Kevin @ Jul 15th 2009 3:49PM
CRAPGADGET. I think that's my very favorite word in the Engadget lexicon. It's one of those words that just has a great sound and rhythm to it. CRAPGADGET.
It's like CLUSTERF**K. Just sorta rolls off the tongue.
Truth Seeker @ Jul 15th 2009 5:41PM
I was just about to post the same thing about the word... LOL
You beat me to it. :-)
iphonerulez @ Jul 15th 2009 3:56PM
Now that is an abomination. There are so many alternatives in ways to carry a thumb drive, so this attempt seems fairly pathetic. I could see if you were able to wear the sunglasses while using the drive, but disassembling the frame is downright crappy. And for $200, no way.
Wwhat @ Jul 15th 2009 4:22PM
You have to imagine the person wearing it in a casino, I think you guy are not doing that.
Incidentally over here CK is all $3 rip-offs and worn exclusively by trailer trash and poor people from weird countries you don't visit without getting some form of hepatitis during the visit.
Michael @ Jul 15th 2009 5:59PM
Maybe if people ignore it, it will go away.
ddub @ Jul 15th 2009 10:49PM
I have a feeling that will happen without anyone even trying.
Falcom @ Jul 15th 2009 6:00PM
these could actually be a pretty good way to sneak a usb memory stick into a building that has security prohibiting such devices. sneak it in, download your data, take it out with you. Now anyone can be a criminal!
ProcrastinationXtravaganza @ Jul 15th 2009 6:03PM
these are kinda hot! Sidney Bristow would kill in these. $200 is not much at all to pay for designer sunglasses
ED @ Jul 15th 2009 7:57PM
ha, she'll kill in anything! :D
