Google Voice apps now live on Android and BlackBerry, iPhone en route
There have been pretty decent unofficial hacks to get Google Voice fully functional on a variety of mobile devices for a while now, but Google's finally taking the next logical step in its world domination strategy by releasing totally 100-percent legit first-party apps for a couple key platforms today -- BlackBerry and, of course, its own Android. As you might expect, the app lets you make calls and send texts through your Google Voice number (great for taking advantage of its mega-low international rates) and integrates with the service's excellent visual voicemail and voice transcription service. iPhone is on the way, but for now, the BlackBerry build should be hitting a pretty wide, interested demographic -- now about those Google Voice invites, eh?

this is nice!!!
where the hell is it ??!?!
search for google voice in the market... i have it... but not access to google voice :/
Where's the Palm Pre love?
Yes, wtf, when is pre support coming?!?!
I hate having to use the browser instead.
Have to agree, here. Where is the Pre implementation?
I'm not surprised there wasn't an announcement concerning a Pre release since the adoption isn't very large yet but the lack of Windows Mobile announcement is strange. Obviously there's a lot of Google vs. Microsoft talk but I don't believe that would have any bearing here. Running a competitor's app on your platform is probably the best way to piss someone off.
Be patient, Google is part of the Alliance with Palm and Sprint, an app is sure to come (would not be surprised if one is being written now). Look how well Gmail and Google Talk are integrated with webOS and Synergy.
I hope the Pre version is comming soon. That would totally rock.
Would be a temp fix for the lack of Visual Voicemail...
How long has the Pre SDK been out for ?
@Ash.. what about winmo then?
Used GV app on my Google Ion and just tried the new Google Voice app. It's nice to see all the Google Voice SMS's showing up but I haven't tried texting yet. Before I have to go to Google Voice website to return a text message.
Coming soon to iPhone? is that soon similar to when we were supposed to see Latitude *very soon* after iPhone 3.0... Come on Google, stop teasing then waiting months to release a product.
maybe you should switch to an android haha
I am pretty sure the holdup is AT&T bitching about free SMS feature in Google Voice, which would take a toll on their exorbitantly priced SMS plans.
There are hundreds of "free" sms apps, I doubt this is AT&T holding this up. I'm not sure how an official app would work any different from GV Mobile in the app store. It can't run in the background (obvious i know) and it wont be able to dial directly from the default contacts list. Not sure why we need another GV app on the iPhone, but I want it anyway!
And come on Latitude!
Outgoing calls, SMS, and voicemail work great! Thanks Google!
Oh I hope the texts are pushed on the iPhone. I can eliminate my text plan forever.
Not pushed to blackberry, kinda surprised they dropped the ball on this, heres hoping its corrected.
If you have a GV Invite.. you can use the GV Mobile Pro app that is already in the store... thats what ive been using- got rid of my text plan alltogether.
eliminate it now--use TextFree (push) for $5.99 one-time purchase. I've eliminated my $30/month unlimited texting and haven't looked back yet!
I have had a google voice number for a while. Don't see what all the fuss is about. I guess it is not really meant for a college student who only has one number.
Actually this is PERFECT for a starving college student. When setup correctly you can use Google Voice for unlimited calls / text msgs.....even with the cheapest / lowest minute cell phone plan :-)
how can you optimally use google voice with a low minute plan -- at least in the US incoming calls still count as minutes
You can get a myfaces plan or similar where it would be free to call via google voice.
I'm a uni student without texting on my cell phone plan. So Google Voice works out nicely for me.
so an iphone version is otw, but what about one for winmo?
I'll just copy/paste (from my WinMo phone) what I posted onto here a few seconds ago in my other post:
Already running a custom app similar to this on my WinMo HTC Touch Pro -- GVDialer.
It's pretty slick, anytime you want to make a call, it will ask you if you want to use the built-in dialer (Direct) or Use the GV Dialer (which it will automatically store and enter all of your GV telephone number account info) which makes GV dials a seamless process as well.
I cant help but also mention Sprint's Pick Three feature too.
With it, you can designate your GV # as one of your fave's and in doing so, ALL of your outgoing calls become FREE!
Unlimited outgoing minutes no matter what calling plan you're on.
I think only Sprint, Alltel, and TMobile have fave 5's, circles, pick three's, or what have you.
Got to love Sprint, WinMo, and Google.
Is it just me...or does google hate windows mobile. The only love we get is google maps.
Take it and appreciate it. It's free, and GoogMaps sux on Blackberry, of course.
I somehow received a couple of google voice invites yesterday, quite awesome ^.^
*scootches up real close*
Hi. How're you doing this fine day?
I got mine last night, this is perfect timing!
I got mine yesterday too. I wonder if they're prepping for a major roll out.
Anyone have a spair invite? I;ve been waiting a long time. Google doesnt like me.
This app is a no go for me, it ONLY works with gmail.com Google Accounts with Google Voice. If you use another email for Google services, it won't even fully load!
I'm hoping they fix this, soon. I'm using Google Apps for Your Domain and I can't get it to work.
ive been waiting for my invite...this is gonna take forever
I'll second that!
Every day Google moves one step closer to becoming Skynet, but to tell you the truth I don't mind it.
This google number thing is actually pretty nice.
Works great on my Blackberry! Keep up the good work Google! As a side note I signed up for Google Voice about three weeks back and received my invite last week. I keep hearing about a large waiting line to get Google Voice, but for me it only took 2 weeks. Maybe I am just lucky : )
I finally got my invite - I signed up after they shut grandcentral down "temporarily" like a year/year and a half ago and then we all found out google bought 'em.
Been waiting ever since. But I guess they're letting some folks in now!
I'm curious to try this out. Would anyone be so kind as to give me an invite?
Thanks!
Never mind :P
I can't wait for the "Comiing soon" So I downloaded GV App for the Iphone. It's not bad except for the fact I have to have it open for it to do anything (receive/send text, make phone calls through the Google number) I have to import my contacts seperately.
Huh??? There is no iPhone app.
"I downloaded GV App"
I'm assuming that's a 3rd party app...
Chuck, "GV App" is a 3rd party app.
If anyone was wondering, here is the url for getting it from your blackberry:
m.google.com/voice
I just went and installed it. Very nice.
How about pushing sms straight to the phone using this? That would be killer!
Did an American just say eh?
Eh, Eh Nothing Left To Say.
No WinMo support planned for the future?
I agree. What's with developers forgetting the best platform for developing on?
Download GVdialer from http://www.gvdialer.com/ and don't look back.
@WindowsFTW:
GVDialer must die. Rendered my Q9C useless and I think it borked a couple of other WinMo 6.1 Standard (ie non touchscreen) phones useless.
I need the real thing straight from Google.
+1 Vote for WinMo support! I also think it is funny when investigating Google Voice and what features and services they offer at what cost, I checked out the International Rates, which are VERY cheap, I haven't compared them all, but it looks like it's even cheaper than Skype!
The part I found funny was the highest international rate they have listed is $.60/min, and is what they charge to call either Guantanamo Bay or North Korea... seriously... lol.
North Korea got phones?
I find GVdialer to be even better than Google's native app, which totally takes over your phone and places all of your outgoing calls via your GV #.
GVdialer on the other hand gives you a choice anytime you want to make a call, and integrates seamlessly with WinMo, your contact list, etc.
It also runs as a low-level process, so you don't need to have the app running in the background, per se.

No winmo love? fail
This first release app does not allow Google Apps accounts or rather any non-Gmail GV users to login. So although I am able to use GV by Evan for some time (which works great btw), I can't login to this. I'll be expecting an update on that soon given the large user base that came from Grandcentral to GV.
I got my invite. But no Blackberry or Android phone. :( Google Voice is bomb though :)
When I got Google Voice, I made my number (***) SEXX GOD. Now I'm regretting not having my own area code, sucks for me that Google charges $10 for a new number :/
*taps feet* patiently waiting for my Google Voice invite or insider to get me an invite :P
En route for the iphone...kinda like Google Latitude?
what about s60..this is why the hero should come out in usa..
downloaded today... i just canceled my VZW account and am exclusively using gvoice on my work issued blackberry which has no text plan. WAHOO!
now can gvoice get MMS so i can stop telling people to send pics to my email?
I know theres an invite somewhere with my name on it... :(
WinMo please.
yay!!!
Would anyone that have it please invite me? dwyper@gmail.com "ya so i put my email there... wanna fight about it?"
i promise not to put naked pictures of myself anywhere in return
I got an invite but I live outside US, so no Google Voice for me :(
Poop. Looks like UK users are left out :(
Yay for an Official App! I have to give props to Evan Charlton for having mad GV to hold us over tho, his is still an awesome app for some things!
Would be nice if they actually invited people to use GV at some point, like they said.

video
Would would iphone be the last to have the app?
Got my invite a couple days ago(after months of waiting). I activated, but I'm getting no winmo love. Oh well, it will come sooner or later.
The GV mobile web app works perfectly on the iPhone. I wonder how the features will compare to the App Store version.
Ughh, web app.
Interesting that no mention is made of client software coming up for Windows Mobile ;)
So I'm wondering how long before the article about carriers banning the software shows up.
Google voice for iPhone? Yeah, dream on. AT&T will deny it first hand. Luckily, one can already access Google voice website via Safari, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a native app.
The only thing I don't like about the app is that you can't use your own phone # to dial out if you want. I want the option of using gv or my cell #.
The entire point of google voice is to eliminate other numbers so you've only got to remember/use a single number: the google voice number.
If you have WinMo, then i wholeheartedly recommend installing an app called GVDialer.
It does exactly what you are looking for.
By simply choosing a number from your contact list (or just dialing one), it will intercept the outgoing call as soon as you hit send, then ask you:
"Use Direct Call"
or
"Use GV Dialer"
Doesn't get any easier/more seamless than that.
I'm really diggin google voice! This app completely takes over my phone, and in a good way. My caller ID shows up correctly to people I call, and their number shows correctly with me. I can now text, where I didn't have a text message plan before ( @ .20 cents a text) If I can just figure out a way to turn off my cell phones voice mail I'll be set with using google voice from here on out!
This is crazy! I just got my Google Voice invite yesterday, my mom has the G1, my dad has a Blackberry, and I have the iPhone...cool!
So.... guess who has an extra GV invite just sitting in his voicemail...? ME! I honestly have no idea what to do with it, either!
Ya.. what a drag. You know.. if you want, go ahead and forward it to me and I'll take care of it for you... just cuz I'm a nice guy. =)
Already running a custom app similar to this on my WinMo HTC Touch Pro -- GVDialer.

Got to love Sprint, WinMo, and Google.
Bro, are you serious? I appreciate you trying to promote them, but.. come on. You don't need to post it 10 times. I use GVDialer btw, and look forward to an update-- esp SMS support, which it does not have right now (except for blackberry). I'm surprised there's only 3 apps out there for WinMo (besides calling card dialers): iDialer, OneDialer, and GVDialer. GVDialer is the best right now (for a 320x320), but it's still pretty slow and again, no SMS... and it's $10 after 30 days. I'm watching m_drunk's OneDialer which looks promising. Come on google.. show some love.
I got a google voice invite today (I was not a grand station use, but I registered for a google voice invite months ago). On first inspection, google voice is neat. It's a great option too if you want another number in another area code (but pick wisely, google charges you $10 to change your google voice number).
HOWEVER, the google voice official application has been crashing my verizon blackberry all day. Keep getting security certificate messages. I'm going to try wiping the handheld tomorrow and reinstalling to see if that helps. But not a good first sign.
I got my voice invite today. Ill probably set it all up tomorrow.
I have had my GV number before it was called GV, Grand Central... I just received today another invite so now I have two numbers... I'm actually going to disconnect one of my cellular plans now that I have this second number... ?
What are the chances the app is done and stuck in iPhone app review purgatory?
S60 3rd Edition, pls.
WinMo 6.1, pls.
I've been there since the GrandCentral days so where's my love?
Got my invite (It appears they are rolling out tons of invites right now) and I used the hack mentioned here: (http://www.pcworld.com/article/168555/faq_how_google_voice_will_rock_wireless.html) to setup a sort of visual voicemail for my Android Phone using the new GV program.
It works amazing. The transcribing is a bit off but its a beautiful piece of work I gotta say. The only thing I would complain about is even with DND on when someone gets routed to my GV voicemail it first rings 2-3 times in a different tone than my cell phone. Wish I could set it to not ring at all and just start the voicemail message right away.
Anyways
I am happy ;)
I got an invite tonight and was very unimpressed. My iPhone needs an app for this ASAP for it to be useful at all.
Very interesting
