Logitech ups its skins game with the Guitar Hero Wireless Drum Controller
Have your World Tour drums lost their bounce, or the ability to register each hit of your sweet, smooth licks? You're not alone our rhythmically majestic friend, and Logi's here to bring your groove back, introducing the pretend drum kit with the no-nonsense name: Wireless Drum Controller. It's a Sony-only affair at the moment, using a dongle to connect to the PS2 or PS3 sans-tether, and some high-quality components to deliver a good feel without the annoying "whack whack whack" cacophony when you're unleashing your inner Animal. Each pad and cymbal is individually adjustable and the whole kit folds completely flat, just like that treadmill you bought last January, tucked under your bed, and promptly forgot about. It costs almost as much, too: $229, or about $60 more than you can get the entire Band Kit for. Nobody ever said rockin' was cheap, baby, and if you have the funds these should be rolling into domestic stores in the next few weeks -- Euro drummers will need to wait a month.

this is ugly...
Ghen @ Jul 15th 2009 8:24AM
Extremely ugly.
Especially with the new GH5 drums rumored to be redesigned.
macserv @ Jul 16th 2009 3:25PM
This isn't ugly, it's more professional looking. It's a lot closer to what an actual set of Roland V-Drums looks like than either the GH:WT or redesigned GH5 kit.

Do people actually buy these overpriced plastic toys? I have RB1 drumsets and guitars that are still working.. but I wont ever think of getting 250$ drums and 250$ guitars to play video games. Just those two alone are worth more than the PS3!
And people complain the PS3 is expensive...
Jarpo @ Jul 15th 2009 7:57AM
I bought the Ion kit for Rock Band last fall and love it, definitely worth the $300 I paid at the time. Yeah it's silly to spend that much on a controller, but if you plan to do what I did and install a drum module and use it outside of Rock Band then it's a great price for a somewhat decent e-drum kit. As for this Guitar Hero kit...let's just say it looks pretty familiar and I doubt it will have any of the perks of the Ion.
Bob Denley @ Jul 15th 2009 7:58AM
Yes they do, I have a friend that got rock band last year and has gone through about 5 of the cheap drum sets... i'm sure he would like a quality set.
Ravnos @ Jul 15th 2009 12:34PM
Jarpo's right, the ION kit is worth the money, seeing as it can also be used as an electronic drum kit. This is just an overpriced toy, though. If you bought this instead of splurging the extra $70 for the ION kit, you made the wrong choice.

Finally! A set of drums worth my talent!

WHERE?! I CAN'T SEE IT?
Jose @ Jul 15th 2009 8:00AM
I've been playing drums since I was 7 (I'm 17 right now), but I gotta say, the drumsets aren't meant to really take an ass whooping. I play Metallica on my real set and dual bass pedals are badass, but when it comes to the world tour sets, it doesn't really pick up the dual kick pedals and the lil flap the holds the sticks broke. If there's really a good drumset for guitar hero/rock band , let me know. I'm tired of sending the P.O.S. drumset to RedOctane

Get the ION set, you can get it dirt cheap from Amazon right now because they have a deal going on where you trade in at least $50 worth of used video games and you get a coupon for 50% off a video game or video game accessory.
I used my coupon for the ION set, here's how it broke down. The set costs about $290 on Amazon.
$290
-$145 (50% off Coupon)
-$29 (10% off Coupon for being an Entertainment Consumers Association member)
-$60 (Trade-in Credit)
-$50 (From selling old RB2 drums on eBay)
Final Total: $6 out of pocket
wack @ Jul 15th 2009 8:21AM
these are so expensive, why not get a real drum set at this point? I mean i have RB1 and it was fun and all, but I can't justify spending 10 times the full retail price of the game on controllers.
bondsbw @ Jul 15th 2009 8:40AM
Agreed... these are more expensive than some cheap drum kits, real or electronic. Just google product search for:
electronic drum set -"guitar hero" -"electronic arts"
and set the price to 0-229, and you'll get plenty of hits.
bondsbw @ Jul 15th 2009 8:41AM
Actually this is better:
electronic drum set -"guitar hero" -"rock band"
Theo @ Jul 15th 2009 11:56AM
the ions that came out for rock band are much looking than this. and since when did logitech make electronic drum sets x_x?????
el.xilox1 @ Jul 18th 2009 10:07AM
Logitech OWNS the peripheral world, they can do what ever they want :P
^.^
kolizz @ Jul 15th 2009 2:53PM
The pads look exactly like the pads that come with the ION Rock Band set. I guess Logitech just put their logo on the same gear and made it match the GH setup. Which should mean that you can use those as real e-drums too. Now, I want that controller device and hook it up to my ION pads!
Kris @ Jul 15th 2009 8:17PM
I have a fully compatable box I can sell you to make your ions 100% compatable with guitar hero drumming.

Deezul @ Jul 16th 2009 3:46PM
My IONs are already 100% percent compatible; GH:WT adjusts and gives me 4 lanes instead of 5. If you want "true" 5 lanes with the ION, get a real drum brain with MIDI out. Connect drum brain to GH:WT MIDI in, boom.
If you're already got real edrums and the brain has a MIDI out, just buy a set of GH:WT drums and pull out the brain on that. It's my current project so I can ditch the ION Drum Rocker Brain.
videoCWK @ Jul 15th 2009 7:12PM
But it's still not Drummania...
JohnTech @ Jul 16th 2009 12:14AM
I think that this will only work in Guitar Hero drum, because rock band 2 drum set has 4 drums and 3 cymbals?
macserv @ Jul 16th 2009 3:25PM
This isn't ugly, it's more professional looking. It's a lot closer to what an actual set of Roland V-Drums looks like than either the GH:WT or redesigned GH5 kit.
