What are they going to sell? Zunes, Windows 7 and mice?
Don't think MSFT lends itself to brick and mortar as well as Apple, they are a software company mostly, and software boxes don't have that ooooh shiny!!!! gadget effect.
so... microsoft is going to open a retail store, to sell other companies products? they have very few items that would work in a retail environment like this... the xbox (and its accessories)... windows (which is already sold everywhere)... office (again, already sold everywhere)... and the zune. so... are they planning on selling dell/hp/etc? if so... dont these companies already have their own channels... and wouldnt it be a huge conflict of interest?
thats going to be one hell of an empty store... and/or one hell of a waste of cash.
that is most likely what Microsoft would do with these store, sell other peoples products. Yes those companies do have current channels for their products but that doesn't mean new ones would be a waste of space. Places like Best Buy kind of suck to buy computers at because a lot of the time the employees don't know crap about the products. If Microsoft can get knowledgeable and enthusiastic like in the Apple Store, they can get a lot of sales. And it's not like Microsoft couldn't get exclusive products or something. It could work if they do it right.
@Microdot Why would hp or dell care if microsoft sells their products. Thats just more potential sales because of MORE retail space. Besides, im pretty sure a sale is a sale to dell or hp, no matter where it came from.
The N9 has arrived. What we can say from our first experience is that we're in the presence of a fantastically designed device with a gorgeous AMOLED screen and some highly responsive performance.

Is there a pre-order for Ballmer action figures? I wanna be on that list!
Don't forget all XBox gear and games.
They could sell all WinMo based devices (especially non-exclusive ones that are unlocked!).
They could provide some tech support too.
There are lots of possibilities.
Software box, no. Zune HD, yes.
