O2 Germany's TG01 handset, now with virus!

It's bad enough picking up a virus because you've made an uncharacteristic (to you at least) illegal software acquisition, but bringing one home when you're just minding your own business, trying to enjoy your legitimate and hard-earned purchase, is totally uncool. Case in point: according to Inside-Handy.de, a few unlucky customers of O2 in Germany have purchased the TG01 handset only to discover a virus present on the device. While Toshiba tries to determine the impact and the cause of the infection, O2 has halted sales of the smartphone, though there's no word on when sales will resume nor if this infection has spread to other European nations.

Impersonating Paul A Chapel:
"Thats why all Smart Phones should be iPhones"!
Well he would say that.
But then we would have to explain to him that the iPhone isn't a smart phone.
Best not to go down that path again.
@Templarian
Ha! Too true!
@Puggs:
You also forgot to mention Paul's lines about all other smartphones are for fanbois, Engadget=WinMo conspiracy, Steve Jobs will rise from the grave on the third day after his death, etc.
You forgot to mention "Apple haters" at some point.
You also forgot to calle everybody Apple Haters.
@ the Original Comment
I just wanted to let you know that I low ranked you. Why? Because you're starting $h*t and inviting Paul... Way to attempt to turn another thread into an Redmond Cupertino war. Now, I'll probably have to read Paul crap somewhere down in this post.
@Andrey
Just want to let you know that I low ranked your post, as I personally enjoy reading Mr. Chapels rants! (and anyone elses rants for that matter!).
Oh, I didn't realize we could officially "invite" people to post here. I was under the impression that these comments are open to anyone.
To save you the trouble, I will low rank this post too!
Toshiba IS the virus and Sony is the solution.
WE MAKE HOLES IN TEETH!
@ Mr. Sparkles
Well, that's certainly your right. What I meant was that the first post was an open invitation for Paul to spew crap.
Personally, I enjoy getting a good laugh at Paul myself, but I do defend him when I think he's right. I don't enjoy, however, the next 50 posts (some exaggeration...) of anti-Paul garbage followed by more Paul garbage that I have to sift through to actually read about something that relates to the article itself. I go to this site to read about the gadgets; not Paul, not Apple Sux, not WinCrap Sux, not Look At Me Now is a stalker, etc...
Both companies have their ups and downs. Personally, I could go into a book of what I like about each, but I'll leave it at I prefer Apple for Aesthetics (my taste) but have a PC b/c Apple is overpriced and sometimes too dummy proof. With how Win 7 looks, and the stability and performance improvements, my next Laptop may be a Win 7 box because the aesthetics are close, and PC's have better games, better hardware, and better compatibility with the rest of the world for about the same price.
Some people on this forum just need to take a nap.
Later....
@Audrey.
Your comments are valid.
I will resist in future posts!
Oh no! A low rank from an anonymous Internet user! Puggs, I am so terribly sorry for what must be a most difficult time in your otherwise serene life.
er... ok! Although I have no tears from being "Low Ranked". It's a freaking blog for heavens sake. No feelings hurt here.
Run to the hills, run to the hills, make way for Tegra!

We MAKE HOLES IN TEETH! WE MAKE HOLES IN TEETH!
Doh.
WinMo sucks!
Yes, it does, but don't let them hear you. You'll get flamed and people will make baseless judgments of you. They'll bitch about how you must not have ever used it, otherwise you'd love it forever.
Well there is this funny thing called an "opinion" where you can think whatever you want about whatever you want.
However, on the interweb, the bizarre notion has come about that your opinion is as good as indisputable fact. And people are almost shocked when they find out that this isnt the case.
@Look_Around_You,
wow.

Love the title. I lol'd.

Ah ... the beauty of WinMO ...
Well WinMobile didn't do anything according to the article:
"According to German publication Inside-Handy.de, the new Windows Mobile communicator Toshiba TG01, that has been selling on O2 Germany since the beginning of July, comes with a virus pre-installed in it’ memory."
So some crank at a point in the chain decided to be a bastard and install this on people's phones purposely.
Frankly, this could happen on any platform unfortunately.
@Look_Around_You,
but still, it's the beauty of WinMo!
u couldnt disagree more.
.
"u couldnt disagree more."
I couldn't? Huh?
@thisisit
Not sure what the beauty of WinMo has to do with it...and I'm sure you don't either.
@ljm
the virus is a feature.
.
No anti virus software for WinMo? How disappointing!
No, it is coming to Windows app store soon.
I think you really meant the virus is coming to Windows app store. No?
actually, there is some, but (up till now) it's been utterly useless since, on the whole, there were no viruses around.
the virus is A FEATURE.
btw, ZUNEHD RULEZZZZ!!!!!

I think your enter key is really broken.

Wow... you guys are complaining about Paul A.Chapel all day long, but when he is not here, you feel the need to call him loudly. Looks like you need Paul to bring some interest to your posts. May be bacause you can't find anything interesting to say on the topic.
+1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (does it go any higher?)
Here in Germany, phone infects you
SGI PWNS THIS PHONE AND IRIX PWNED WINDOWS MOBILE?
Get your facts straight, Engadget. It wasn't a virus. The 8gb microsd card that came with it was formatted wrongly at 1gb. This was the "virus". Perhaps some things get confused in translation. You should update the main page with this corrected info.
