T-Mobile's G2 Touch (HTC Hero) hitting Germany in August, not July
It's the same HTC Hero you already crave only now with a touch of colorful Hypo-magenta-semia that always results in a name change. The result? T-Mobile G2 Touch now scheduled for an August launch date, not July as originally announced. We imagine this will push the UK launch back as well what with T-Mobile HQ'd in Germany. Missed launch date or not, we've been ready to take on extra debt, sell the ferrets, whatever it takes just to take home that Sense UI and excellent on-screen keyboard riding Android 1.5 since like, yesterday.
[Thanks, Vaios]
Update: T-Mobile UK has stated via Twitter that the G2 Touch ship date will be released "ASAP." Thanks, Chris!

I wish they would put it up for preorder anyway. I want to get it sorted!
chefgon_ign @ Jul 15th 2009 8:37AM
Having tried both, I feel pretty confident in saying that the stock Android virtual keyboard is better than the custom HTC one.

T-Mobile UK confirmed two days ago on Twitter that the G2 Touch would be available later in July, so I suppose Germany will get it after UK...
Buzzer @ Jul 15th 2009 9:19AM
amazon.co.uk are stating a UK release date of 15th August now..
Phoenix @ Jul 15th 2009 9:22AM

I wonder what the likely stateside release date is.....
mrpinkbunny @ Jul 15th 2009 9:38AM
I think all you have to do is add 1 to the year in the date... Not sure though. :-)
I really hope the UK gets this before Germany, I'm using an old phone at the moment and was quite content that I would only be using it for a few days before the Hero's release... Until the release date got pushed back. :-(
lazarus3000 @ Jul 15th 2009 9:46AM
Expansys UK and Expansys Finland are now listing the SIM free Hero as being available in 7-8 days.
Theli @ Jul 15th 2009 10:01AM
And you could apparently buy one in Sweden for a short period of time. I hope someone managed to get their hands on one, I'd love to see a review.
Imran @ Jul 15th 2009 10:20AM
Now they've changed it to 2nd August!!!
Winters @ Jul 15th 2009 11:03AM
@ Theli

So is it confirmed the Hero is NOT coming to TMobile in the USA?
matthew @ Jul 15th 2009 10:05AM
@Editors
Please do not call this the G2. It was never going to be named that as that would mirror the name given by Gatorade for their revised sports drink. The G1 is only the first of many (up to 18 from what I've read) Android-powered mobile phone devices to reach production by the end of 2009, and was not intended to have a sequence of mobile phones (like the RAZR series, iPhones, etc)
Phoenix @ Jul 15th 2009 12:03PM
See the picture with the article?
See the words in it?
read them.
The fucking mobile operator is branding it as the G2 touch.
what else are Engadget meant to call it?
Stop being a moron and open your eyes.

Middle of August, holy f***ing crap. They need to sort themselves out, say a date and stick to it.
Anymore delays and they'll be putting themselves up against quite a few other Android phones due out before the end of the year.
When was that sony one due?
Aaron @ Jul 15th 2009 10:22AM
so.... AT&T?
LongshotX @ Jul 15th 2009 10:34AM
What the hell does this mean for us Americans! I'm ready to kick my Iphone 3g to the curb.
bachviet @ Jul 15th 2009 11:08AM
T-Mobile UK decides to call this phone "G2 Touch".
Francis @ Jul 15th 2009 11:34AM
Naw.. this still can't touch my jailbroken iPWN 3GS, what! what!
deinfinityx @ Jul 15th 2009 12:28PM
Well i believe they pushed back the release date to incorporate the next Android update. G2touch- August, Mytouch-August. I think they know update donut is on the way, especially with how Google has been acting, releasing apps and with their press conferences.
switchbitch @ Jul 15th 2009 1:33PM
That's fair enough. But I'd rather have the device now, and update it myself.
Peter F @ Jul 15th 2009 7:36PM
Why is TMobile using the Engadget Mobile color?
alex @ Aug 3rd 2009 9:04AM
Looks like Tmob UK are now selling it....
