Keepin' it real fake, part CCXXVI: Soniphone C908 takes a little o' this, a little o' that

Well, what do we have here? The Soniphone C908 is just a confused mishmash of branded signals -- Sony Ericsson is plainly visible across the top of the LCD, but a little Walkman branding was thrown in under it just for added fun. And, just in case you needed another, completely different reason to have your interest piqued, they threw in a wheel that is suspiciously iPod-like. This classy baby is undoubtedly worth every penny (it'll run you about $117 to grab one), if you decide you can't live without one. One more shot after the break.

Is that a monochrome screen? L-O-L
Muhammad-Oli @ Jul 16th 2009 11:37AM
Maybe your computer screen is, cause I see colour.
Eddy Munn @ Jul 16th 2009 11:38AM
There is colour, but the background picture is greyscale. ;)
This is what the iPhone dreams it could be.
Jean P. @ Jul 16th 2009 11:56AM
no. It does however look like the LG chocolate from earlier. The LG even has the space there for the clickwheel, maybe it's one of those touch/heat sensitive ones.
tande_1000 @ Jul 16th 2009 11:36AM
HOT
bolmedias @ Jul 16th 2009 11:39AM
NOT
To: Hell @ Jul 16th 2009 11:45AM
Looks like a quality unit?
Risu @ Jul 16th 2009 11:54AM
...How Come?
fanman @ Jul 16th 2009 12:14PM
I actually quite like the design of an iPod nano with a slide out keypad for calls. It's the secondary school electronics project build quality that I take issue with.
TTSGEB @ Jul 16th 2009 11:46AM
. . . So you can call two people at once, but you can't hang up? That sounds horrible.
bolmedias @ Jul 16th 2009 11:47AM
Win.
Freebo @ Jul 16th 2009 11:48AM
This is just rofl.
Vic De Zen @ Jul 16th 2009 11:52AM
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
...that being said, this is more like a Frankenstein cellphone. A mishmash of different devices, just wanting to be loved instead of just being seen as full of fail.
Jason @ Jul 16th 2009 2:16PM
yeah, and why does it have "cybershot" written on the bottem? There isn't even a camera!!!!
HKPK_2005 @ Jul 16th 2009 12:08PM
girl on the phone looks like a chinese version of Audrey Hepburn...
bjs @ Jul 16th 2009 5:00PM
That's exactly what I was thinking, cool picture.
element8 @ Jul 16th 2009 12:13PM
is there no way to hang up the phone? i just see two ways to answer it.
macserv @ Jul 16th 2009 3:07PM
Seriously... what the hell is up with having two SEND keys?
Khalid Shahin @ Jul 16th 2009 12:22PM
Not only is the phone an imitation because that girl is actually a guy.
dan2600 @ Jul 16th 2009 1:22PM
I say if any electronic device uses the GB2312 character encoding set its probably KIRF
GB2312 has to use the worlds ugliest Roman character font....It might even be worse then MS Mincho.
Then again..im getting a bit tired of Helvetica too....
Lets just do everything in Bookman Old Style for a few years? :-p
Gabe @ Jul 16th 2009 1:42PM
GB2312 is mostly a Chinese font.
http://kanji.zinbun.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~yasuoka/CJK/gb2312-80.gif
dan2600 @ Jul 16th 2009 2:17PM
O.o
mmm ya, i know it is...thats why the KIRF phones use it.
It doesn't negate the fact that the roman characters that the font includes (including Western Arabic numerals) are terrible looking.
htd @ Jul 16th 2009 2:28PM
comparing to the following, this is hardly news
nokia never released this concept phone
http://cn.engadget.com/2006/10/11/nokias-aeon-full-surface-screen-cellphone-concept/
well, small factories did

Ben @ Jul 16th 2009 2:44PM
Why does engadget post these?? Seriously.. are they advertising or what?
I don't think anybody actually cares what sort of KIRFs are around. 226 engadget stories about things nobody wants.
Yagami Light @ Jul 16th 2009 7:49PM
Well maybe Engadget should post about what BEN wants
Maurice @ Jul 16th 2009 2:44PM
not too horrible
Li @ Jul 17th 2009 12:56AM
that battery is gonna explode someday...
