BOOKTOP!? Make it stop!
Venom16 @ Jul 17th 2009 1:32PM
Its up to you really. Just quote the formula.
If: Booktop = Notebook + Desktop
Then:
Notebook + Desktop = NoteDesk
Notebook + Desktop = BookDesk
Notebook + Desktop = NoteTop
There you go. 3 more handy dandy buzzwords.
Copyright pending.
Elranzer @ Jul 17th 2009 3:09PM
But it's really a netbook, not notebook. Shouldn't the new buzzword be...
DeskNet?
NetDesk?
NetTop (oops, that one's taken!)
jason @ Jul 17th 2009 3:35PM
Call it a PADD and you will get every Star Trek fan to buy one. I actually do prefer tablets over netbooks for devices that tiny. I simply cannot use a regular netbook that small, too awkward. I'm not a small asian child. But I also won't pay $600 for a crappy Atom.
hans @ Jul 17th 2009 1:25PM
booktop?? seriousliy?? somebody please bring up a DIN norm or something...
coyo t @ Jul 17th 2009 1:43PM
it's the cherry on top that does it.
that and nut sprinkles.
NoAndThen @ Jul 17th 2009 2:54PM
coyo t: it's the cherry on top that does it.
that and nut sprinkles.
LMFAO! I assume you meant nuts AND sprinkles, but it's just too good to not mention.
I am really glad they spelled out the formula for Booktop though. Now we just need the pamphlet that goes with it explaining that the target market is: idiots.
slamEVIL @ Jul 17th 2009 4:22PM
@NoAndThen: you REALLY need to get your head out of the gutter :) he meant "nut sprinkles"

Bout time there are some laptops that come with decent docks.
Galactor963 @ Jul 17th 2009 1:40PM
What if they took the docking station, let you use it with the tablet, and put in a VGA/DVI in...
On the go, it's a tablet netbook. At home, it's a secondary external display.
Food for thought.
Alistair loveless @ Jul 17th 2009 1:46PM
ya know im actually curious about this. I want something chap and with a touchscreen for school you guys think this would be just awful?
Drew @ Jul 17th 2009 2:04PM
Awful, nah. Worth the money, hell no. $600 for a 10 inch netbook with some form of touch screen is way too expensive. You can get a refurb Dell XT for 700 and actually have decent computing power. You could get a new HP TX2Z for 750 and be running a 2.2gig processor and 4 gigs of ram with a multitouch screen.
Elranzer @ Jul 17th 2009 3:12PM
Hell, if you REALLY wanted a touchscreen netbook, you could always get the touch version of the Dell Latitude 2100 for $409.
gcc @ Jul 18th 2009 1:39AM
Got one for my g/f- she really likes it. Does handwriting fine, although just about everybody said it wouldn't. Not sure how it would stack up to the eee T91 or whatever it is.
agasaf @ Jul 17th 2009 1:57PM
PC industry strategy:
1. write down all possible combinations of buzzwords.
2. release or announce at least one example of a device with one of those names, all with different sizes, colors, materials and form factors.
3. watch Apple run around in circles crying in desperation with no room left for an innovating cool new product look and name.
NoAndThen @ Jul 17th 2009 2:56PM
???
Yeah cuz Apple usually uses terms like 'booktop'
I can hear them weeping all the way to the bank right now...
steve @ Jul 17th 2009 2:06PM
Booktop =/= Notebook + Desktop
A Booktop would be my coffee cup, its on top of a book right now
Notebook + Desktop = hire some professional help ;)
For the Booktop to live up to its name (as much as I think its wrong) it also needs to have
Keyboard + Mouse + Display
else its just a neatly docked brick
Khav @ Jul 17th 2009 2:17PM
It's nothing more than a silly name for the already well-established concept of notebook + docking station.
Fred McDonald @ Jul 17th 2009 2:28PM
If they'd named it the Desknote, would it kill those who's names were saved to it's hard drive?
Thank you, I'm here all week.
Wwhat @ Jul 17th 2009 2:35PM
600 smackers for an atom? Uhm, try a bit harder asian friends :)
Li @ Jul 17th 2009 2:42PM
WTF, LMAO... Booktop......
Wwhat @ Jul 18th 2009 5:53PM
Nicely put :D
Walter @ Jul 17th 2009 2:42PM
I was looking for something like this.
Anyway to find out the resolution of the external monitor it could drive?
Or should I wait for something with an Ion?
NoAndThen @ Jul 17th 2009 2:57PM
Great!
Nope.
Yes.
Exile @ Jul 17th 2009 2:49PM
I just bought a HP tx2z a week ago. That's what Gigabyte gets for stating that they had no plans for bringing this to the states.
Casey Gambuti @ Jul 17th 2009 3:37PM
asdf
VenQWish @ Jul 17th 2009 3:48PM
Bah, why don't they combine the two to make for a much better product?
- Tablet + dock
You could even use it as a secondary screen when docked. Wish it had ION though... Meh, I guess I will have to wait FOREVER to get the product I'd really want. They always deliberately chop off some feature and put it on another product, just to piss you off so it seems. (or make more money I guess, but not mine)
Eric @ Jul 17th 2009 4:19PM
Anyone compared this to the Asus T91? This will be faster, but I'm wondering if Gigabyte also put in as much effort on the software side as Asus.
