Nokia throws "Xseries" into the ring, too?
You know the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire"? Yeah, well, this is kind of like that, except its.. uh, "where there's Cseries, there's Xseries." Stay with us: on Saturday we reported that Nokia had filed for a trademark on the "Cseries" name, ostensibly for a new line of smartphones, MIDs, or netbooks to complement its existing Nseries and Eseries lines. Now it seems the intriguing-sounding "Xseries" is in the mix, too, thanks to details coughed up by the EU's Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market. This particular mark was filed in Switzerland, but something tells us they don't just plan on selling some crazy new line of devices in the Alps, if you know what we're saying; like the Cseries, though, the question of what the Xseries is exactly remains to be answered.

Hey CHRIS! NICE POST CHRIS! X-SERIES?! Not Original.
Hmm... eXuberantly sucky?
CHRIS. SAY SUMTHING TO ME1
NO! ME CHRIS ME!!
It seems that *maybe* XpressMusic could be rebranded as Xseries? I mean, why add another 'X' to some branding when you already have one... it's not like you're adding a letter to any product you do... like an 'x' or an 'i' or a 'my'... oh wait...
say it Chris, i dare you. say that it stands for xtra crap, :')
nah, jk. :')
Here's hoping for Nokia's Android based smartphones. =)
seriously doubt it. It would completely undermine their investment into the S60 platform.
"the question of what the Xseries is exactly remains to be answered."
Possibly a typo?
X and C are right next to each other. :D
i doubt its a typo... they WOULD have proof read their patent application imho......
No. They wouldn't have proofread it.
XCSERIES FTW.
sounds like game centered phone to me. another attempt to revive ngage
Don't Sony Ericsson already mark their phones as C-series, W-series, X-series etc? I was under the impression that you wouldn't be able to apply for a trademark that a competitor already uses in the same industry.
X FOR XTREME!!!!!!
X for piece of shit phone made by Nokia.
@Haikibutsu
Even though I'd love to see them come up with something I'd never expect, a dedicated series for rugged phones is the most likely answer. C for consumer, X for xtreme.
Ummm.....
eNtertainment
E-mail
Camera?
and
eXcitement???
Or maybe a phone designed for the adult industry ?
jack 1701: that would be the XXX series....
Its the first of the new Symbian Foundation phone's, kinda exciting if you ask me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbwYrilwZqg&feature=related
The X is for "XENU".
Nokia is definitely going for the scientologist market, and I am ready to call them on it.
How about this:

That's MY guess. . .
It's a network firewall is my guess, same as the cseries. Crossbeam Systems makes the C-series and X-Series firewalls though, not Nokia. Nokia does make a firewall line. Both Nokia and Crossbeam run Check Point.
Maybe they want to compete with SE's X series
hmmm, did anyone else just glance at what he said and see something else?
Yeah, I'm now sure they're just copying Sony Ericsson's series. Just to be dicks I bet. Or more I wish they were doing it to be dicks cause how hilarious would that be?
SE Nokia Merger!!!
SE has first dibbs on "X" a in X1 and X2
Maybe it stands for eX-leaders (as in "former") of market. Or eX-clever. . . .
maybe "C" is a typo error, hence "X"?
@sacapuntas: What do you see when you glance at SE X1? :)
Wow. A lot of Nokia haters here. Are these all fruit fanbois worried about Symbian^2 and the phones that will be supporting it?
Worried that when it comes out they might die of laughter.
C-Series seems to be original than X-Series!
It's JUST a letter....
The letter of the series doesn't necesarily determine the performance of the phones...
What difference would if make if it was ABCDFGHIJKLMOPQRSTUVWYZ instead of X?
Now, I am confused.......Didn't IBM/Lenovo have the X series?
Yeah, lots of confusion... I find myself putting my Lenovo X200 to my ear more and more.
at 3 we had the x-series range of products for a while which essentially meant a handset (mostly nokia and SE) came with certain apps like ORB and Sling..

maybe nokia are branching out to include all that by default.
look at apple:
iphone
iphone 3g
iphone 3gs
Yeah, the iPhone series.
I'm holding out for the iPhone 4gs2ld.
Xpressmusic?
whatever series will be, be with the Adobe flash lite APIs
look what cool rich apps could be, like this photo manager: http://work.shpe.ro/?id2=00030011
video demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDJPBnSv0wc
key features:
-multi-touch alternative for single-touch mobile devices (zoom/rotate/pan controls)
-chaos order (thumbs allover the screen, like a pile of real photos thrown on a table)
-photo grouping (make groups, add/remove photos to groups)
-kinetic movements
-autoscroll when drag photos
-autosave custom arrangement (groups and photo arrangements)
-only photos loaded (from folder images/camera)
free download...
X for it's going to be affordable and CDMA.
X, C, N, E... none of these spell clearer path to helping Nokia gain back the share they've lost in the US nor make sense of their products to all but the deepest Nokia fanboy.
Seriously Nokia... drop the damn letters and start working with the carriers to subsidize your phones. Also, work on the mess of Maemo, Qt, Ofono, Symbian S60/S40 internally too while you're at it.
And make Ovi suck less...
Maybe it's for the new Nokia "Turd in a Shiny Box".
I love Nokia hardware, but the lack of software innovation is killing me. Next decent Andriod phone with a proper keyboard is in my future, I do believe. Because the N97 ain't setting the world on fire.
