Toshiba's new digiframes feature social networking, FrameChannel

If you don't own a digiframe yet, perhaps it's because you were waiting for the kids at Toshiba to design something that looked even more like the faceplate of a microwave oven than the usual fare. But that's not the whole story: besides looking at home next to your Cuisinart and rice cooker, this guy also supports FrameChannel accounts, so personalized weather, traffic, sports scores, music, and video are also on the plate -- as well as the Flickr, Photobucket, and Facebook integration that companies like Toshiba think that you want in a digital picture frame. Hitting shelves in August, the 8-inch frame is available in white (DMF82XWU) or black (DMF82XKU) for an MSRP of $179.99. For the 10-inch frame (DMF102XKU, black only) you can expect to pay $229.99.

Why, oh why oh why?
Indeed - I want a picture frame to be a ... you know ... picture frame.
The OTHER stuff I'll leave to a computer.
Yeah, they don't realize we don't need them to throw in Facebook, Twitter, and a juicer.
A lower cost and better aesthetics would do.
Finally, an adequate replacement to my netbook.
I've been waiting for a Net Frame for all these years, too. I thought I was all alone.
JOSEPH FLATLEY! Say something to me!
I think Digiframes will only come into their own once we have some good color e-ink tech. Until then I really don't see them catching on.
What I want is a digiframe with it's own e-mail address, so I can put it at my parents's and send pictures to it directly, from wherever I am.
Now that's a GREAT IDEA! Run with it, get some venture capitalists interested and you got yourself a multi million unit seller.
I can just imagine the SPAM...
Watch it be full of porn pics one day because of SPAM
Framechannel support allows you to do exactly that. My parents have a digital frame with WiFi and Framechannel. I can send photos to their Framechannel account email address and those photos will automatically start appearing on their digital frame.

though, those short shorts and leather jacket wouldnt flatter anyone else but him.
somehow having buttons on a frame makes it less framey and more cheap tv-y
major props to joseph on the shark jumping reference.. I bow to you, sir
Haha, that's the reason I clicked on this article - Fonzi's jumping the shark!
Agreed- what a clever editorial comment. Digital frames are mos def jumping the shark.
It's not only the digiframes.. It's social networking that is jumping the shark as well. Combine the two and you have the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup of Crapgadget goodness.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
I vote no.
drops a chunk of cash now, and then 2 years form now when twitter or facebook alter their API toshiba will say too bad, you're shit out of luck. we're not updating it. buy a newer one.
dude, in two years time you'll have to buy anyways a new digi/holo/whatever frame for your pics/movies/3d-pic or movie because new stuff will be awesome and every 10 or 15 people who bout this toshiba baby will sell it over ebay for a nicle
why must everything be a social networking experience?
Because it's 2009. It will be what defines 2008-2010ish. Then in 2011 we'll be making snarky comments about social networks.
The pic makes this frame look more rectangular than other digiframes I've seen... like it's a 'full-frame' image (i.e. like 35 mm film and D-SLRs... is that 3:2 ratio instead of 4:3?) If that's true, I'll buy!
