Video: Google Wave public beta rolling out in September
It's hard to tell if Wave -- Google's new collaborative, universal messaging platform -- is revolutionary or simply, well, neat. It's like a telephone, great when everyone else has one but not so useful if you're the only one. At least that's how it seems after watching the near-universally acclaimed demo presented at Google I/O back in May. Starting September 30th, Google will open up the beta to 100,000 of its closest friends. Just hit the appropriate read link below to register for an invite or click through to watch the 1 hour and 20 minute demonstration. Go ahead, work can wait, innovation can't.

How dare you? From what country?
Well played good sir!
I haven't read too much about Google Wave, but I am not particularly interested in it.
That hour and twenty minute should peak your interest....(er...put you to sleep)
does it have video conferencing?? I am yet to really be loyal to just one service whether it be skype/yahoo/msn i dont care.
Wave is going to be Open Sourced so, hopefully, everyone will be using the same core system, like e-mail. (Or,alternatively, create a bunch of their own proprietary competing systems.)
If you have not read much about it, AND (not but) you are not very interested in it, why waste the time to comment here about it.

Gaaa! It's pique! http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/peaked.html
You are interested in it because you haven't seen the video. period.
someones going to make an IDE gadget.
Does it wave back?
...In other news, hand unable to wave because it's slapping a forehead
yaaay
I applied for an invite. My fingers are crossed.
i've applied for an invite, it seems to be a merging between wikis and IM but well i can't wait to see
So did I. But I'm not sure if I will have anyone to chat with i get in!
Sweet I can talk to all of my Google Talk friends! Oh wait...
Exactly, who actually uses google talk...The answer is very few. However if they could make this work with MSN then i would be interested..
I use gtalk as my main messaging app. It is MUCH faster and stabler than MSN. MSN Messenger stinks, period. It takes forever to load, lags constantly, and ads everywhere.
All of my friends use Google talk since just about everyone I know has a Gmail account. It isn't elegant, but it gets the job done.
I don't know anyone on MSN and I haven't used AIM since college...
They day I got gmail I gave up on AIM. I just keep a tab open to gmail anyway and I can chat with all of my friends who also use gmail. My Pre integrates gchat with SMS so I can seamlessly go between SMS and chat depending on where the recipient is and it shows as one thread on my phone.
So yeah, most everyone I know uses gchat. Nobody uses AIM or MSN because...why bother with another app?
Google Wave for me
That is all I want to see
Organize my life
I see what you did there.
I have a very short attention span when it comes to watching youtube videos - but I was actually riveted to this 1 hour and 20 minute long presentation. Watched the whole thing.
Pretty impressive tech. Love how they have rethought the whole concept of mail, collaboration, IM, blogs, and social networking and extensions as a single unit.
The on-the-fly translation of an IM chat from English to French (and vice-versa) was amazing.
The brothers Lars and Jens Rasmussen are Danish! Geniuses! They also did Google Maps!
Signed up but I wish they change it to something catchier and fun sounding like Google Wax where everyone gets to stick together waxing each other.,,, err. that doesnt sound right.
It's named after the communication system in firefly. Which I find awesome.
"Bugs? No thanks, but i'll take a survey or two"
Google's getting almost as whitty as you are engadget....almost.
Yeah, but does it run Crysis?
This joke ran it's course months ago. Fail.
its ok, some people still think using 'fail' is clever and funny
Abort. Retry.
And as google products tend to do... google wave will roll out of beta on september 30, 2014.
Nah, they'll just not update it or add any features. Kinda like google talk. Tell me why the gmail chat client has more features than the stand alone client.
Gotta ask because I didn't see it anywhere are a quick glance, but is this pc/mac or pc only?
It's web browser Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari.
But the real innovation is the underlying protocol. If this really does hit off expect Microsoft Office 2014 Outlook Wave.
Point I'm making is nothing is stopping someone from making a client.
Blog comments, like these on Engadget, will become much more fun when they are all in real-time charachter by charachter, and when you can easily see when new comments are added to the thread.
Waiting for the EU to tell them they need to unbundle all the features and support different IM, eMail, etc. clients in the UI.
Google is going to open source the system. That means anyone can jump on board who wants to, in anyway they want to. This is really a great deal.
Watched the whole thing, and it was worth it. Looks really fabolous.
i like this :D
I WANT!
zenbe.com has something out already that's similar to this.
I've been using the developers sandbox for a few days, and whilst it's cool, it is very much like the phone - for now it's just interesting to play with but unless everyone you talk to had it, it's not really that useful...
looks a bit cluttered to me.. But I'd be willing to give it a shot.
I hope I get invited. This is the FUTURE, people.
Amazing Stuff, cannot wait! seriously amazing!
Geart work google, damn you deserve even more clapping that what was in that video! Jeez
Best of luck :) Can you provide me with a demo account? Please? :D
Hehe
They made a typo in the translation; it should be, "Tout deviens beaucoup plus facile."
Anyways, it seems to be a pretty interesting concept. I just hope we won't have to spend 90% of our time using the playback feature because the wave is cluttered with replies.
Holy crap. I read this story, then checked my mail and there it was - a google wave invite! I kid you not!
