Apple tablet rumored for launch early next year, for serious this time: seriously
After what AppleInsider claims has been four years of development "riddled with setbacks," Apple is purportedly finalizing its long-rumored tablet for an early 2010 launch. AppleInsider claims to have been tracking the device get bounced back to the drawing board repeatedly over the past few years, but says that Steve Jobs is finally happy with the product and there's an internal go-ahead to get this thing ready for next year, barring any other setbacks. Purported specs include a 10-inch screen, 3G data and a custom ARM processor courtesy of its P.A. Semi purchase -- after previously considering Intel's Atom, as the story goes. Rumors elsewhere point to Verizon data instead of AT&T, but that might just be wishful thinking. While AppleInsider still claims the device is positioned somewhere between an iPhone and a laptop, its inside sources apparently didn't give the thumbs up to early artist renditions of the handheld, and so AI's new and "improved" render is above -- striking fear in the heart of aesthetes everywhere.
Sure, we've heard so many iterations of Apple tablet rumors over the years, with varying degrees of confidence behind them, that it's really hard to latch onto yet another promise of this supposedly inevitable device. Still, this is what it is: a decent rumor with some reasonable excuses for "delays" and a glorious promise of tablet nirvana right around the corner. What more could an Apple rumorphile want?

It will cost 5800$. Or 800$ and your soul for 4 year.
Its a giant iPhone, i'd buy it
Tablets have a very niche role in general consumption/use. The ones that will snap it up are apple enthusiasts and techies. It won't make its rounds beyond that circle except in very specialised fields/work. The belief that this will somehow be a mass market device is pure fantasy.
As a tech junkie it makes me salivate but you should understand this isn't going to be a smash hit. There's no other market for a tablet except with techies and fanatics and select job types. That's an extremely limited market. It won't replace a laptop, nor a mobile device, nor be as functional/convenient for everyday use as a netbook type device.
If and when Apple releases this, the aim will be more to create a buzz around the Apple name as a strategic took more than an actual product for the market; which they'll use to sell their other products over the short to medium term. It'll be a marketing move, not a product to consumer move.
if you imagine this as 4 iphones laid together that would put the max weight as under 20 ounces probably closer to 16
also apple have a gap in their product pricing,£649 would fit in with their current lineup
If the crunchpad tablet comes out later this year as predicted at $300 apple or no apple this is going to become a competition about price again just like the netbook market.
Me want!
"What more could an Apple rumorphile want?"
A dumpster of un-shredded documents labelled "Apple Inc TOP SECRET" ?
An automatic Apple rumour truthfullness-detecting machine?
Steve Jobs' home phone number?
Lifetime membership to the Apple Rumourphiles Association?
Proof that the Chinese guy was pushed by thugs wearing Apple t-shirts?
Apple to start their own official rumour website?
To work for the Rumours division of the Apple Marketing Team?
More Apple rumours?
I had some thoughts on a Apple Tablet. My main conclusion: all gadget lovers will be disappointed as the device will target a new group of consumers with no Internet exposure so far. Wondering if it has App Store support?
A. I would love this. I don't have an iPhone but I was talking the other day about how much I would get one if only it had a bigger screen or could be docked somehow to a larger screen. I bought an older notebook pc a few years ago, and was turned off by the fan noise. In the middle of class, that's just not going to work.
B. How did I not know about this Vaio P? I just checked it out, and it looks ideal for toting around between classes.
