The new Xbox Live dashboard update preview is... live!

Some notable bits thus far:
- Netflix now has way, way more options. You can actually browse content via the app, which is great. As a commenter points out, HD content is now denoted with a tag.
- There isn't any avatar prop content available just yet -- hopefully we'll get to pick out an awesome gun to carry around soon though.
- No Games on Demand content from the current gen console is available, but apparently the games will start rolling out in early August (sigh).
- As we noted in previous posts, the preview doesn't boast any of the Last.fm, Facebook, or Twitter additions yet.
- We know they're still working the kinks out, but there seems to be noticeable slowdown when shifting between pages, something we've never noticed before in the NXE.
I'm getting mine now.
Do they send an email if we are selected.. or do I have to wait till my internet @ home is fixed to see if I got thru??

Watch out for E74 errors. After the update, mine came up with the error, phones Microsoft and the console is broken. It's outside warranty so I need to buy a new one...

I didnt get it it seems mostly Netflix oriented so I guess since I do not use that I do not get the beta. Oh well
Well, I just powered on my 360 but didn't get prompted to update or anything, so I imagine I didn't get in.
Damn, I just tried, no update..and after I promised major nelson I would keep a log with all problems, dates, and times......I guess I suck.......

Been using it for awhile now. Love netflix movies on demand! I just wish there was a search feature here. The party stuff I could care less about. I like!!
Did people who got in on the preview get an Email this time around, or is it a matter of just turning on your 360 and checking?

If its like last time, they will keep adding groups in until the general update happens for everyone.
How does the "Xbox Live Veterans" number work? Does it go by when you first created the gamertag or, if you've ever let the account go Silver, does it go by when you re-subscribed?
Sorry, its "Gold Member Veterans". That's why I've been wondering what that number will be based on.

ohh thats sucks because i been playing for 2 years and some and i remember about a year ago i lets my account go silver for a few days :s
And I'm not sure why, but I've been a member since 2004 when I got my 360, but the Xbox.com website says I've only been a member since October? Huh?
You know, it occurs to me that they may be rolling out the update in waves/chunks. That's what they did last time, where over the course of a day or two everyone received the update. They might be doing the same here.

doesnt the netflix app now show hd logos for all content thats hd in their library.... thats always been one thing that annoyed me about the netflix implementation is you didnt know it was hd until it started.
since i apparently didn't get it, or just not yet, any chance you guys could post some picture of the Avatar Marketplace. i'm really interested to see what gaming apparel is up for sale.

This doesn't apply to "silver" members, and since it's mainly Neflix-oriented, I'm not affected either way. I already get my Netflix streaming via my Tivo box.
so wait i still dont get the netflix party thing lets say i have a friend that uses netflix .and if he invite me to a party do i need a sub to netflix ?because i never used or had nothing to do with netflix
Well, I sure hope I got in - I use Netflix quite a bit and have a fast FiOS connection, so I'm hoping those factors helped get me into the program.
Anyway, can anyone confirm if they send an email to let you know if you're in, or do you just have to find out by turning on the xbox??

Arg! They've made the damn thing slower! I REALLY wanted them to fix the lag when you pressed the guide button.
Calm down, This is only a PREVIEW. The final update will be quicker.
@ Brian: uuuhhh, no, it won't. It's a "PREVIEW PROGRAM" for the update, to build hype and such (Microsoft's words, not mine), not a BETA or RC. It's the final update, just under limited release at the moment.

The Xbox360 just keeps getting better.
Its a case of you get what you pay for. All that money people paid for Live goes into the R&D of making it a better user experience.
And don't forget the revenue from all the advertising on the NXE.
Is this really live for those who signed up (and were picked, though Major Nelson's twitter gave the impression that everyone who signed up would get in as he had stated "we still have room")
Or was it just press. So far it really looks like it's just press and Engadget seems to have worded it giving the impression that the actual preview update is live.
Secondly if it is the actual preview. Folks you gotta remember it's a rolling update usually they can't roll it out to everyone who is getting it at once.
Can't remember where I read it, but this preview was meant to happen on the 20th and it is just for the press/media. Another preview (for everyone else who signed up) is supposed to be happening later this week. :)
Ya thats what I thought. Major was very good about updating and telling people if the "waves" were going out. I am assuming he would do the same. But yeah, I hope I got in. Heck last time my younger brother bought a new xbox the day the signups for NXE went available. Of course he was the first to go. I didn't get in till the opened the floodgates for everyone. (day and a half before full public release) It would be nice to get in the first go around this time.)
So the only thing they really changed except for making it slower is Netflix? Great, I live in Europe!
So can you watch Netflix movies with people who don't have an xbox. That would be pretty nice.

Does anyone know if this update will available vis Xbox website like NXE was? I dont have interwebs @ home or XBL .... ( I actually updated to NXE via a disk from Official XBox Magazine).
I'd imagine when it releases on August 11.
I think you can also update by using a hard drive from another updated console, but if it's like NXE that might not work right with avatars.
Well since I use PlayOn for Netflix on my 360 & my PS3 this update isn't very useful....yet.

Does it at least get rid of the 10-25 second freezes? Right now the guide won't exit if I'm on my friends list and not all of the gamerpictures have loaded yet.
all iw anna know is how many peopel have to have a netflix subscription to start a movie party because if its one tahts cool cu z everyone can mooch I hope only 1 person needs it

well i got the update an hour ago, august 4. I did not receive an e-mail will last.fm automatically come on and facebook when its ready if you are a part of this beta?
