Installing Pre homebrew apps: now even easier
While Palm is busily engaged in a game of domination with Apple to see which one can keep iTunes sync working or broken the longest, the Pre homebrew community hasn't been sitting idle, introducing two new and painless ways to get homemade software up in your handset. The first is a desktop app called WebOS Quick Install that works on Mac, PC, and Linux, allowing installation with just a drag, a drop, and a click. The other is called fileCoaster, enabling users to download and install IPKs right on the phone itself, plus other files too. Two great apps for fans of unofficial softwares and good tidings for a warm future of basement innovation -- only a month after the first custom apps came to light.

Ph33r, the Palm Pre was recently released so if you're interested I would go for it.
ohhh bad spelling error (tsk tsk to self)
by the way, does grammar check work on your computer?
;-)
bad flashlight?
It is because Apple goes to such great lengths to control users iphones that I won't have anything to do with them. Good for Palm for not being such assholes.
+1
It took the palm community 2 months what took the iPhone community 3 years.
I agree, I love how open this phone is
Let's not pretend this is exactly in Palm's best interest right now. They must allow this to happen to compete. They need to attract every developer they possibly can right now. What better way.

I downloaded the Dev kit and used the emulator. The OS is awesome! errr.. let me rephrase that... It's AWESOME. Most of the api's seems to be in JavaScript so I'm not quite sure how it's hard it is to access root services. I haven't looked at the code much yet.
I'm definitely getting an unlocked GSM Pre when it comes out (eventually). The Sprint service in my area is just awful.
GSM Pre FTW. I want one too despite the issues I hear about the actual hardware of the device. Great inside but could have been built with a little more care to quality. The form factor of QWERTY in portrait is IMHO the best possible. Turning a phone sideways is a chore.
Hmmm....you look familiar...http://bit.ly/RziTL
