LG BL40 caught in the wild, given brief hands-on

We'll admit, we're jealous of this Sina Corporation reporter, who appears to have gotten some hands-on time with LG's very sexy Chocolate BL40 and its 21:9 aspect ratio screen. There isn't much said here aside from details we already knew and the occasional compliment on its form factor and display, but it is good to see this in the wild and not just in the FCC's secret lab facilities. Now if only we can get a better idea of its US 3G capabilities...

Seriously, what's the point of ultra-wide-screen resolution on a device that's barely taller than your hand? It's hardly an ideal device to watch movies on....

It's actually a VERY ideal device to watch movies on. A lot of movies have that 21:9 (2.33333333) aspect ratio and makes for a radical change in the mobile market. I'm all for it!

well a lot of movies and shows don't have that ratio (older stuff has 4:3 if i'm not mistaken) so you end up with a tiny picture in the middle of a very wide screen

Well, it's really only an ideal device to watch movies on if you like watching movies on tiny little 4" screens. We're not exactly talking 1080p full HD here.

I've seen this phone in person and it's ridiculously long. The phone is about as long as a TV remote (and it looks like one too). Though extra display space from its long body seemed to made it easier to type in numbers and texts.

From a source close to this, they are going to call this phone "Chocolate - White" (at least in Korean domestic market).

Now if some hollywood figure was flashing this phone around for a while no one would gripe about it being long. It's just like BlackBerries. Not too many people wanted a BB until celebs were seen with 'em. Now BBs are everywhere!

I don't think every phone maker is as obsessed with that one device as the owners are. There is a large market out there of people without iPhones.

You actually think the worlds Mfg's "need" to compete
with a plastic phone?

This "kiddie" phone you speak of.... only represents 2%
of all phones currently used world-wide.
