LG releases first official shots of BL40 "New Chocolate"

The percentage of electronics at the end of their lives which were recycled.
The EPA found that the percentage remained consistent from 1999-2005. Even as recycling rates went up, the amount of electronics reaching end of life outpaced the increase, leaving the figure static. (source: EPA, July 2008)

Longphone is loooooooooooooooooooooong
LG is crap, especially the Chocolate line...
LG has confused Chocolate and dog Doo Doo.
Yes 90% of LG products belong in the "cheap and nasty" category.
So as long as it has the LG logo i wont be buying it.
Longer than Paul chapel's.
burn.
@JJ,
please...
clicked on your profile. wow.
^^^
agreed. He said:
"i want naked women, open bar, a mechanical bull, and awesome carpet. that's all i ask."
heh, what can you say to that?.....
Actual dimensions I gathered from the picture puts this phone at around 5 inches long...That's not that much longer than the iphone.
Here I made a size comparison vs iPhone 3GS and the Nokia N97.
http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/24682-Apple-iPhone-vs-Nokia-N97-vs-LG-BL40-1-
Sure it's so long that the menu can hold 4 x 8 = 32 Apps. The menu looks confusing and overwhelming.
Judging by the iTards' comments, looks like a winner.
I'm not sure I want more than 3/4 of it.
Why all the talk about crap LG phones... They have higher build quality than almost all other manufacturers. And, for a couple of years, the LG Viewty recorded the best quality video of any cameraphone.
Pocket says: Your not putting all that in me
(Owner blushes)
But if some hollywood debutante was seen with this shit you'd be alllllll over it.....
It's a good lookin' phone. Better than a lot of was LGs put out in the last 3 years! 21:9 ratio shold be impressive in person. Unfortunately VZWs gonna cripple it....like the rest of our hideously ugly phone line-up (sans my Storm)!
actually the size of a Hershey bar...
mmmmm chocolate.......
So they chose the worst chocolate available to imitate?
Native CinemaScope video! Kuuelll.
So it's black, long & wide, but can it vibrate ?
that's a girl's dream
I dont think the colour matters as long as its long and wide.
Yes color do matter, don't screw with urban legends. Like this phone is the shit. No physical qwerty, forget about it.
i can make mine vibrate..
target can make yours vibrate.
Could it have more icons to click? Geez.
I've not seen anything that wide since I last saw your mother's hips.
Paul Chapel's mouth?
I was going to say Julia Roberts, but Pick on Paul day sounded fun...
LG is trying too hard. The screen is too small, the phone is too long, there are too many icons. Hard to find a proper phone manufacturer that doesn't have a phone with many flaws.
Have you held it in your hands? Have you tried to use it yourself?
Or are you basing all of this off of 3 CG renders?
He's using same assumption as everyone else i think the same too, tho i might be wrong.
Too long and it looks cluttered as hell. I'll hold off on my final judgment though until I see some more pics.
seems like a perfect phone for girls, since they carry around purses. However, as a guy I'd imagine this would stick out the top of my pocket, or at least be very uncomfortable pocketed. However, if a shorter version came out I'd be very interested.
once you go black...
you go deaf
YOU GONNA NEED A WHEELCHAIR
you never get a mac?
thank you fap fap fap if you didnt say it i was gonna. great line, terrible movie, lol.
How's it going to stick out of your pocket? Look at the picture; it's wide, not tall, you moron.
@steve
Are you really that stupid? the phones on its side
@steve, so you're going to be fitting this into your pocket horizontally and not vertically?
That phone is hideous.
i will have to mark you down for that comment sir and if i could fine you, I would.
Your comment is ridiculously absurd.
In all fairness the phone looks awesome.
It looks alright. Honestly after having used a Blackberry, a Pre and an iPhone I can't see myself going back to dumbphones any time soon.
Why do you say its a "dumbphone"?
They're introducing a whole app store with this too you know.
Am I the only one that loves this sexy beast
I think you are. I find the phone to be very ugly. it would prolly look better if it wasnt that long, what the fuck was the design team thinking?
No dude, I love this beyonnddd
It is sexy, for sure.
nope, i'm absolutely in love with it. if only it comes to verizon.
@Lambert
I'm sure the design team was thinking "Let's design something different from anything else on the market", and they succeeded. The phone looks pretty sweet, and if the UI is anything like what they showed in the video, this will be a pretty popular phone.
that's a lot of icons
:/
There's so many icons it looks as though the main default screen is the "App Store."
I wonder if VZW will be getting it.
Just imagine, this phone's hardware, and a big red "GET IT NOW" sprawled across that screen.
I wouldn't be surprised at all, since Verizon has been always LG's priority with their newest devices. i.e. Dare, enV, Vu, etc.
And I don't understand all the LG hate. They make solid feature phones for people who don't need smartphones.
No, not this phone, This phone is a GSM phone. As have been all of LG's black label phones.
There is a chocolate touch supposedly coming out but its not clear if the two are related. VZW doesn't really get all the LG's as you put it, they just feature prominently in their line up and so people tend to associate them.
Well obviously not this specific model of the phone, but I was under the impression that at least in the featurephone space, swapping out one radio for another is not as difficult as it once was.
I wonder how this phone will sell... Well either way, people are gonna have a fun time trying to cram this down their pockets. Just my two cents.
I don't think I'd trust LG with any touchscreen device - after the touch buttons on my original Chocolate stopped working, I don't want them to make me a phone that relies entirely on touch.
I went through 3 original chocolates and begged tech service for a second-gen. Had to renew my contract...
It bit the dust a couple weeks ago. I'm working on a phone that qualifies as a walkie-talkie (LG VX4500). I had over 860 pictures on my phone and now I don't have a cameraphone...
Anyways back on-topic, I'm forgiving LG because the new touchscreens of theirs seem awesome (hello, enV Touch?!). The Chocolate 2 was leaps and bounds ahead of the Chocolate 1, whereas the Chocolate 3 is LAME.
@jack
dude, my chocolate 3 kicks ass. do the first two chocolates have a 3.5mm headphone jack? no. do they have an FM transmitter? negative.
and they call themselves music phones....
I have no complaints with the touchscreen on my enV touch. It may be a "dumbphone" but that line is starting to blur, IMO. I don't need to spend the extra $400 for what additional functionality a smartphone would bring me.
My phone has a great music player, document viewer, multitab browser, e-mail with notification, and I can access GPS for 24 hours for a couple bucks when I need it, which is rarely.
The only thing that makes me regret my purchase is the pictures of this phone. The UI on the enV touch is better than the Dare, which is why I picked it, but I have little use for a physical keypad.
Made by LG?
Something tells me that will have serious bug issues that they'll never fix.
They'll just work on the next phone instead.
LG makes the most horrible products ever, while it looks nice in the pics I can imagine it cost about 50$ to make
I was definitely holding out for the Palm Pre... and then I held one in my hands and it felt like poop. While I'll still be getting one, and an iPhone, and a Blackberry, and a Hero, all for mobile app development work, this phone at least LOOKS compelling. But then again, so did the Pre. I think I'll wait until I have one sitting on my own two meatmitts to make a call (no pun intended).
i have that theme on my iphone
casio
I don't know. I have a hard time feeling enthusiastic about LG phones since mine DIED ON ME last month. *gives the evil eye* It wouldn't recharge anymore.
is this going to verizon?
Looks good to me.
to many icons... *looks at his iphone* stfu
as long as this phone's UI is smooth. I'm in.
I always tried to keep my number of apps to a minimum, but I don't care anymore with the search in 3.0 because I can just search for the app I want. Should've been there from the beginning, because it's spiffy!
Any word on a price point yet?
lets see... HUGE touch screen: 100 Bucks, Most likely for version: 100 Bucks, 5.0 Mega pixel camera: 150 Bucks, having Verison make you pay $500 + data service charges: PRICELESS.
$15/month for 5 GB of data and VCAST video is highly reasonable. I find no issue (as long as this isn't considered a smartphone, then I see your point...).
Am I the only one who likes all of those icons? I prefer this over tabs or scrolling...
The UI won't be as smooth as the iPhone's because like the Prada phone, this BS40 (that's BS for bullsh_t) phone is flash-based. I'll take the iPhone any day.
I'd never touch one, but I do like the categorized icons. I wish iphone had something like that instead of having to manually move everything into some kind of sane order.
The enV Touch has this, also.
The phone is gorgeous!
Hey, what's wrong with flash-based? I'm sure it's processor is better than the 466 MHz the iPhone is rockin' (I bet the 3GS could do it, though...).
Hopefully Verizon won't cripple the hell out of this, as it looks kinda cool.
*still hoping for something good from Motorola*
It's not really as long as it looks: 103mm x 52mm x 18mm
Opps, pls ignore the dimension, I got it wrongly.
I love the phone, but I worry about the Freudian aspects of me loving it.
Perhaps this is another thing that I should repress.
Its ok, being stuck in the phallic stage is much better than the anal stage ;)
At least you aren't stuck in the anal phase like me! ;)
LMFAO!!!!!!!
Well looks like the iPhone is gonna take 100% marketshare.
Nice innovation guys.
I guess the whole idea is to imitate a chocolate bar.
long and dark . . . , i dun think its wide .
hey its teh Vaio P of phones. cool, in a form factor no one wants
I don't quite get why people are complaining about the height of this phone. It wasn't that long ago when all phones where longer and thicker. Is everyone wearing tighter pants with smaller pockets now?
Besides, I think the narrowness of this phone is giving the illusion that it is taller than it is.
hey paul chappel whats up man you are crap and have been confused with dog doo doo.
Your know what they say about guys with long phones...
Sorry just couldn't resist
It looks extremely long :(
That's what she said ;)
Is that a camera next to ear peace on the front? that would be cool if you could do video calling.
If this is "ultra-wide", why is the logo the wrong way up? I call it ultra-thin or ultra-tall.
dont like the icons, the UI looks "off" somehow
