Logitech introduces seven new webcams, makes decisions ever harder
You know, in the vast majority of situations, we'd prefer choice over no choice. But in this particular kettle of fish, we're not so sure we're eager to parse through build sheets associated with no less than seven new Logitech webcams. In a presumed effort to get every PC owner on planet Earth equipped with a Logitech Vid-enabled device, the outfit is today introducing the Webcam Pro 9000, Portable Webcam C905, Webcam C600, Webcam C500, Webcam C300, Webcam C250 and Webcam C200. For those of you still with us, you'll (possibly) be elated to know that the higher-end Pro 9000 ($99.99; shown above) packs a 2 megapixel sensor for capturing 720p video, while the lowest-end C200 ($29.99) handles the basics with a 1.3 megapixel sensor that serves up VGA footage. The whole lot is expected to ship to the US and Europe next month, and you can catch the nitty-gritty details there in the read link.

I could only ever consider the one in pic 4
whereas i would only take pic 2, conventional webcam...
indeed supply meets demand.
The 9000 has been around for ages, I have had one since about January. I don't know if it's just because I'm in Australia, but this article seems poorly researched.
@sortius (and everyone else who pointed out that the 9000 is not new): yeah, we have dozens of these cameras. What's up with this release? It's not a new feature that they do 720p-- they have been for a while
what gives?
I guess that they can restart them at $99 when they re-release them, instead of the $70 they a re by now.
Yup...I have had a Pro 9000 since Nov./Dec. of 2007....definitely not a new device. It's the best darn vid camera I've ever used...but not new.
Hey Darren, are you sure you got the date right? These cams have been around for 1-2 years and I even own the Pro 9000 for a year (by the way, it's the best web cam on the market).
I'll stick with my robo orbit
Logicool??
I saw that, hahaha nice photoshop
Logicool is the brand name Logitech has to use in Japan as there is already a domestic peripheral maker called Logitec.
I think it's more like there already being a freight service by boat in a Japan called Logitech Service (http://logitech.co.jp)
"3 syllables, sounds like...
...cool! Give him a Logicool!"
I thought the Pro 9000 was already out?
what the heck? I just ordered a pro 9000 for my gf, ... what the heck is this "new" thing???
I've been using the pro 9000 for over a year...
To be fair to Engadget, it is part of the linked press release. Maybe Logitech don't want to admit that they don't have anything new to beat their old top of the line camera.
New? I bought a Pro 9000 for my parents and one for myself over a year ago from Komplett in Ireland. It has the same specs as the one above and was cheaper than the advertised price. Is it just being relaunched?
too bad standalone webcams are dying
came to say this, you beat me to it
Webcam ? I thought those went out after chat rooms .. Ahhh old school internet
Or you could just buy pretty much any laptop on the market today. Hell even my new Dell desktop came with a monitor with a built-in webcam.
Built-in webcams can be somewhat crappy. We have multiple Pro 9000s at work. They have better light sensitivity, color, and have a great autofocus lens. Beats the pants off any builtin!
Yeah the pro 9000 was originally boasting a lot about for it having glass lens to compliment the 720p res video and the mgapixel shot, although I read that the 720p res had some speed issues somewhere, plus at the same time they released it, about 2 years ago or something, microsoft also released 720P cams, which were reviewed as great everywhere and they nicely did not touch on the fact that in the very samples the testsites showed the sound was out of sync, because they got not paid to pint out flaws by MS but to say it's great, MS really has those 'reviews' well under control, every product is always 'great', but that's another discussion.
I just don't get why all of the pre-built-in web cameras don't get better over time. We need manufacturers to start putting in 3.0mp cameras in their laptops. Just a few have them :(
Indeed, it's curious that the phones get an extra megapixel or so per month but many notebooks actually are still at 0.3MP with 1.3MP 'interpolated' and such jokes, most peculiar.
But hey, logitech introducing a 2 year old cam as 'new' is also a bit odd.
My dell inspiron 1520 has a 2 megapixel camera from creative built in .so laptops do have higher megapixel caemras but they are equivalent to cellphone cameras. I also have the logitech 9000 and since it has a better sensor its much better then the one on my laptop. But my laptop is good enough (if that makes any sense).
I've had my Pro 9000 far a while also. I bought it at Best Buy for $64. It's a very nice cam, but NOT new.
I have the 9000 as well. Bought it right after it originally came out.
I use it with Skype daily you can not even compare it with any build in cam , audio is pretty nice as well.
That zeiss lense makes a huge diff in less thne ideal light conditions.
I have had a 9000 for about a year now (live in Arkansas). I was about to get excited about a new model, but it looks like this is just a confusing press release about the same tired old products and engadget didn't even bother to fact check it.
:(
Maybe this press news is from The Onion? I also own a Pro 9000 for several years.
Speaking of press news, why is it that they always have to sound as being written for morons.
"... because you delight in the details of your loved ones’ lives ...", "...when you want to show your distant friends and family how you really feel ...", "... technology automatically adjusts the image, so you look your best ...", "... the Webcam makes it easy to share your life as you live it..."
have they said it they changed anything in the 9000 pro, what I want to see is a Webcam that can do 30fps at a high res. yea the 9000 pro can do "hd" but its at 15 fps
Hey assholes, make some drivers for OS X so I can use the Pro 9000.
The Webcam Pro 2000 isn't new as others have stated, but the others are on their site for preorder.
Get the Quickcam Vision Pro instead of the 9000
@tedium Can't, I'm unattractive :/
Which one of these that doesn't require any drivers? (standard USB video class camera that works with any OS)
I've had a pro 9000 for almost a year. How could it be new?
Yeah. Hurricane is right - make some drivers for OS X dammit! I got a Alu MacBook but I keep the lid closed and use an external monitor. The Pro 9000 is crap without proper drivers. It's was super-duper when connected to my (thankfully now dead Winbox).
Haha, only for windows users. I already have a built in high quality iSight video cam in my macbook pro.
IIkurt you are a fanboy .I have a high quality 2 mega pixel webcam in my dell inspiron 1520 which is a WINDOWS pc.
Why logitech still using the 1.3 and 2.0 megapixel resolution for webcam? Is there any other higher resolution for a webcam?
People asking for OSX drivers should lookup the MAC version of the Pro 9000. Looks just like the 9000, but is lighter in color and costs more. It also is UVC compliant meaning that you won't need to install any drivers for it to work. This MAC version also works w/ Windows.
UVC also has linux support, i hope these "new" cameras support that initiative.
*looks at his 9000 mounted on his monitor* wow, i feel like I should be singing "Time Warp" now.
Wonder if I will find the Doctor's TARDIS next...
hi
1. What is the difference -- if any -- between Quickcam Pro for Notebooks and the Webcam Pro C905?
2. Different sellers sell these under different names but with part no. 960000045.
3. Logitech US has it as "Wecam Pro C905" while in their UK site it is under the "Quickcam Pro for notebooks". Parts no. are not the same: US has it as 960000045 and the UK as 960000047.
4. Can anyone carify matters?
