Video: Creative Zii EGG 3D gaming demo

Now that the gang at Creative have 'fessed up to the Zii EGG first seen at the FCC earlier this month, we imagine we'll be encountering this bad boy quite often over the coming months. If you need your StemCell Computing fix right now, we have a video that showcases the newest developer platform running a racing game in all of its accelerometer-packing, 3D OpenGL ES-enhanced glory. Peep for yourself after the break.

lolol cool
:D ;D
I love the soundlogo at the end. 0:22
Yeah, but all the hard-core mobile gaming tech-dicks insist that the only way to build a gaming machine is with buttons and finger controls. No room for change. I don't personally care for wiggling a device all over since it uses up more energy, but that's just my preference. I think there's room for both tilt control and classic analog. All mobile games should offer Bluetooth controller options.
hey, am i the only one who preordered it?....
Wow how revolutionary.
Doesnt it just blow your mind? Especially the innovative design! Never seen that before! Jesus Christ, these companies are so pathetic.
Only time I saw a device with all those features in one package was when engadget showed stuff ONLY available in korea.
Yeah looks nice but I can't tell if the controls aren't honed in or if that guy just sucks at the game.
I can tell. That guy sucks at the game.
Why would a guy have such fingernails and speak like a woman?
thats not a guy. what guy has hands like that and a voice like that.
Guys I'm pretty sure that's a cat. Notice the adorable voice.
Its an iPhone clone with FAIL scribbled all over it.
Why not do the intelligent thing and add a D-pad, and analog nubs to both sides plus 4 action buttons so they could simultaneously tell Sony and Apple that they don't know shit about gaming?
Correction: It's an iPod Touch clone with ANDROID scribbled all over it. Huge difference. Huge enough to make me sell my iPod Touch and buy one of these when they come out.

I love how people always claim that they are gonna sell their ipod touch/iphone and get a product that hasn't even hit the market yet. Its one of the dumbest things I see on Engadget. I don't care if you sell your ipod for 2 more hits on your meth pipe. This thing has FAIL written all over it and it will never succeed cause its a clone of a more widely coveted product.
Your idea's got genius written, saudered, engraved all over it!
You don't seem to get it. ANDROID. Not Apple. I would still care if it was something other than a clone. It could have a different form factor and features or not. It could look like a turd. All I care about is if it is a touchscreen that plays music, surfs the web, and has access to a widely used app store. Apple's closed ecosystem is my arch nemesis. The only reason I have an iPod touch is because it was the only option for my desired features. IT WAS THE ONLY OPTION. I don't care if everything about the Zii Egg ended up being worse, I will still buy it as long as it has the features I want.

*sigh*
Another iTroll, barfing over another product.
Ok, we get it, you love your Apple products, and dont want anyone to even consider another option. and this one is going to "fail" because it isnt an Apple device. Ok, is that the whole gist of your baloney postings?
Stop using "FAIL" as an adjective you damned grammar band wagoners.
the use of the word FAIL seems to be one of the most prevalent memes on various geeky websites these days.
@excelsium
lol. you're so FAIL
@ Look_Around_You:
Ah, bashing someone (again) as a raging Apple fanboy simply because he has a differing opinion. How unusual for you. *rolls eyes*
BTW, you may want to read his original comment again - he is clearly *criticizing Apple* for their lack of gaming prowess (which should earn an obvious thumbs up from you, as you love to loathe Apple and the people who love them).
Your "blame everything on Apple users" shtick grows tiresome.
Troll Different.
Another amazing example of why the iPhone, the Touch, and similar products SUCK for games. How long before it gets boring "steering" your motorcycle.
Games will always be mired in mediocrity until manufacturers decide to throw some hardware buttons on the device.
No, really. Please stop using the word "FAIL" so much.
It makes people who are actually smart shudder at your lack of vocabulary.
@Quantumphysics
Why do you believe it has FAIL written all over this product? It may look like the iPhone (I have one btw) BUT it does have many features the iPod Touches/iPhones don't have. You're being accused of being a troll for Apple because you didn't back up your statement with any facts or reasons for your choice. So, why specifically do you think it will FAIL?

@ DanielT
Fail was actually used as a noun.
"Its an iPhone clone with FAIL scribbled all over it."
"Its an iPhone clone with FECES scribbled all over it"
You wouldn't call feces an adjective.
@QuantumPhysics
This thing is going to be critically acclaimed, I can tell that for sure, and you can quote me on this and email me or something if I fail. The thing is, since people are so ignorant, because this doesn't have an Apple logo anywhere, it's not going to be a commercial success. Anyone with half a brain knows that this is a giant step up from an iPod touch, the thing is, no one cares.
Ah but it's not an iPhone/iPod Touch Clone. It's another tech product with a touchscreen. And with specs that should set it aside from the aforementioned device.
Specs (full list located at http://www.zii.com/Developer/SDKProducts.aspx):
1080p HD Output
SDHC Card Slot
HD and VGA Dual Cameras
10-point Multi-Gesture Touch Screen
Hardware GPS Receiver
Text-to-Speech Feature
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
Headphone socket, built-in speaker and microphone
"Fail" is a noun in this sentence because that is _what_ would be written on the box.
But it implies using the words as an adjective. A better word would be "failure," but who gives a crap.
@Quantumphysics
Honestly, I agree with you. I do not see this device making a dent in the iPod Touch market unless it sells for half the price and has a very active development community that makes some compelling content. Right now the momentum is quite clearly with the Touch so Creative not only needs to produce better hardware but they also need to ensure that compelling content is available for it on release in order for existing or potential Touch owners to choose the Zii over Apple's products. That is a very tough ask and since Creative never really cracked the iPod market, I don't see them cracking the Touch market either.
I wish Creative all the best on this one but a tech demo does not impress me and certainly does not imply success.
@XavierAlucard
Sir, and how much time the main battery will handle with such enormous functions?
Can you get at least a 1 hour of pleasure of HD video output without connecting power brick to the device every time?
AWESOME!
when will Windows Mobile have something like this.. maybe a DirectX11? in 2030?
you can program apps in C++ for windows mobile so have access to OpenGLES and also Direct 3D Mobile. Blame the OEMs for not providing hardware that supports the latest version of OpenGLES not the operating system.
it all seems cool but i still dont get what they mean by "stem cell computing"
A relatively simple system that can be made to do almost anything?
no need for the condescending response.
it means that the processor does not have a dedicated section for graphics or rendering and a seperate section for other duties. Instead the zii can dedicate different parts of one large processor to whatever task is needed at the time. That means that it uses the processor more efficiently and gives amazing results.
that wasn't a condescending response. that was what I think they mean by this name. Sacapuntas put it better though.
adding to the above reply....a stem cell is a cell which can grow into anything based on the surrounding enviroment. you can grow a kidney, an eye, a monkey, a tree or watever from a stemcell...this chip is doing something similar...like changing its processing based on whats requested off it.
@quatumphysics wake up, it's just a handheld/internet tablet/maybe a phone in the future, and a developer toying with the hardware capabilities. It's just an OEM proof of concept device. It's not up to them to deliver it as a protable game console or phone.
Just cool to see how powerful the hardware is. If a company release a phone with this specs inside, I'm 101% in.
Obvious logo comparison in 3...2...1... "Zii" looks ahelluva lot like "Wii".
Otherwise, glad to see the increasing adoption rate of Android!
Looks ok and all, but it's rather ridiculous how obvious Creative is trying to play off the Wii brand name with "Zii". It becomes especially evident at the end of the video with that little noise and then the Zii logo pops up.
A noise which isn't very catchy or memorable to begin with.
Yep....so rediculous that they registered for the trademark in 2000.
Nice try Maarek:

Looks like the accelerometer could use some work. It TOTALLY wasn't controlling that vehicle.
Typical Creative garbage. Of course, the fanbois will defend it to their grave.
