Windows 7 activation already cracked with Lenovo's OEM license key
Sort of funny that Microsoft made a big show of handing over the Windows 7 RTM code to Lenovo and other manufacturers last week -- the first activation crack for the OS has just appeared, and it's based on Lenovo's OEM license key. Oops. The crack apparently works with 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 Ultimate, and it apparently passes Genuine Advantage, so things are looking good for all you wannabe pirates out there. You did buy an upgrade disc, though, right?

@E C S Sucks: crack is whack.
OMG. why do you guys keep feeding him? He's actually coming off seemingly smarter and better-adjusted than almost all of you on 90% of his posts because of it. Kind of makes me feel ashamed to be a Windows user due to this fact
You just set a new standard for biased.

Human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.
The bird is right. Quit flaming the guy that alone makes you look like foul tempered idiots which is then compounded when he doesn't lash back at you. I'm not an Apple person but coincidentally Paul, I might use a mac if I could get one for free lol.
People... this is not a HACK or CRACK. It's a violated OEM_SLP Procedure that Microsoft has been using ever since Vista for millions of OEM branded computers in the world.
Here's a hint for those who knows what you are doing:
slmgr.vbs -ilc then -ato.
I don't have to say anymore.
+1
Its not a crack, its official microsoft procedure called OEM ACTIVATION 2.0 (2.1 for seven, marker in slic is different)
Slic table, oem certificates, slp keys are directly from microsoft - there is no cracking here/installing malicious software.
Do a google search for 'OEM_Activation_2.0_Whitepaper.zip'

Finally somebody who knows what they are talking about. Listening to these idiots made me want to delete Engadget from my RSS feed.
Ill just stick with my MAC
Yeah, my Magnetic Accelerator Cannon is badass too.
Did you build yours, or buy it?
we all need Media Access Control too, without it, our networking equipment would all go haywire.
What?
I always thought Mid-Air Collisions were bad...
Big-MAC attack!
I prefer L'oreal hair products instead. Keeps that nice and slick shine all day long.
Has anyone tried it? Wonder if it works with an Asus motherboard
Really, this should be free anyway. This should have been Vista.
Not like it really matters to me, I can get Windows 7 on the cheap 'cause I have connections at Microsoft.
Uh, not like that really matters anyway... Switched to Mac when Vista came out and lovin' it. Well, I guess I could bootcamp. Yah know. Just for the games 'n stuff. Although there are a lot of macports for the games I play...
Uh, NVM. No Windows 7 for me.
Agree. The more I use the release candidate, the more it feels like Vista.
I will wait for the Dell OEM leaked ISO
but if this about apple-brand it would be WRONG right?
Hi, I'm Paul Chapel, and I hit refresh on Engadget's homepage more times than I fap it..
wishful thinking. the key will get blacklisted by microsoft... real quick.
Nope. its not oem key. Please read what is oem activation and slp key's

Why Windows users put up with this activation shit is beyond me. You buy a copy, Install and that should be it. Needing permission from Microsoft to verify your copy or face reduce functionality should be a criminal offence (fraud). Windows users should fight back and refuse to purchase a copy. In fact Microsoft is charging for a copy of Windows 7 after Vista shambles is criminal anyway.
lawyer bird = harvey birdman?
I still wouldn't use OSX if it was free.
Obvious troll is obvious.
Why anyone would pirate this is beyond me. There are so many ways to get it free... New PC, free upgrade from recent laptops, etc... If you are a student you can get it for free with the MS sparks or if your collage is part of the MS programs... etc... etc... if you are a business you need to pay a license, if you get controlled you will pay way more so why take the risk?
I'm using the illegal RTM, just because i can't get any legit copies yet.
These days i do most stuff online so installing Firefox, Office and a couple of other apps is not that much work. All my files are on a external 1Tb HDD, that's why i have a small 128Gb SSD for System, it's really fast and all your files are mobile, just plug USB anywhere.
wait, I had a working crack since day 1 of getting 7600. What is this?
WINDOWS 7!!!
+1 for least meaningful comment ever. :)
I'm waiting on a legit OEM version.
If you want to keep yourself safe from computer hazzards don't ever go for Pirated OS, Antivirus/Firewall and Finance Softwares. BTW, Windows 7 is good, I have been using the Beta and RC1 and its definitely worth the 50 dollar preorder price tag.
Big deal. I've pre-ordered both Pro and Home editions of Windows 7 at reasonable prices and I am quite happy to wait until the end of October for them to arrive. The Release Candidate is fine and I'll be damned if I'm going to download my OS from an unknown Torrent, which is the act of an idiot in my humble opinion.
HOw can anyone agree to pay MS retail prices for what should have been a service pack for Vista. Talk about people laying down & taking it.. MS only released 2 service packs for Vista, when windows 2000 received 4 - XP received 3, & everyone is happy to pay $50 to $200 for Windows 7. Don't you people get it, MS needed revenue so they said to hell with free service packs, lets release a new OS & charge full price for it, even though Vista was the one of the worse OS in history.. Out of protest I will not be paying a dime for Windows 7. I'll go to Google's new OS or Linux on my windows machines before allowing M$ to take anymore of my hard earned cash. I feel sorry for all you fools who paid hundreds of dollars for Vista only be forced to pay again. I really feel sorry those that are to lazy to raise some sort of protest over this unacceptable conduct by M$..
The only time i had trouble with windows activation was with a legit copy... go figure...
I've been running Win7 in a home and business enviorment and its worth 50 dollars.
as for Apple. they do make a decent OS for people who aren't technical. though i don't like that i have to run their OS on their equipmewnt or im breaking their EULA. If my pc breaks i can move my OS to a new PC and not have to rebuy it,
sad that microsoft gets in trouble for installing a web browser into their OS, but Apple can still get away with this and even sue other companies for legally buying their OS to run on different hardware.
if you want cheap Linus
If you want easy go Apple
if you want the world standard go MS
I'd buy windows 7 if it meant I didn't have to put up with WGA crap. Personally I use windows less and less and spend the majority of my time in Linux. There are some good distributions out there and I've used Arch and Xubuntu and liked them both. Arch is probably for more advanced users; Xubuntu is incredibly easy to use. I get notification of updates almost daily...click the update button, they download, install, and you're done. No crap like "is your copy of Linux genuine??"
I think Windows' days are numbered. Only reason to keep windows around is not for the sake of windows itself but to run a few select applications in their native environment. Were there to be *nix versions of these apps or viable alternatives...I could say goodbye to windows forever. I can't wait.
"Best OS in the market"
... Apparently you have never tried OS X goodness ...
Once you got to Mac, You wont go back .... =]
Windows 7 Toolkit 1.8
That is all.
This is so stupid, this isn't a "crack", you are just installing Lenovo's OEM license, (try looking up slmgr.vbs) and then reactivating using what, for now, is recognized as a legitimate license, hence passing activation. However, it'll be unactivated and worthless faster than you can say "hey look, i hacked it and got windows 7 for free!" microsoft just has to send lenovo a new oem license, which they can easily roll out on all of their LEGITIMATE installations (and with the release date still far and away, they probably don't have any yet) , and then kill this one. enjoy it while it lasts.
The only result of this is that someone at Lenovo will get strung up for letting their license out in the wild.
