Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W1 gets the hands-on treatment

Fujifilm's Finepix Real 3D W1 may look like a fairly standard (albeit dual-lensed) compact camera in its official shots, but as the folks at Stuff.tv discovered when they unboxed theirs, it's a slightly different story in person. While not exactly a deal-breaker, the camera looks to be considerably harder to just toss in a pocket than a regular compact camera, and it weighs about as much as the non-compact Olympus E-P1. That said, it does apparently deliver the goods when it comes to capturing 3D movies and still images, and it'll even work with macro shots, although that apparently requires a bit of practice. Hit up the link below for a closer look.

Seems like the entire Stuff.tv site is down... Hrm...
Awesome concept.
I think its pretty gimicky...
agreed. special paper? gross. its also not 3d..its 2 and a half d.
the color that it gets from the reflection of the table gives it that weird 80s brownish electronics color...
actually i wish it was that color
i miss that color
you know the color im talking about?
i like that color.
Screw the brownish electronics color, I want fake wood paneling stickers on mine.
Talking about 3D, I'm shocked Engadget aren't all over Sky's announcement of a 3D channel next year O_o
It's not 2.5D it is 3D. If your argument is based on being able to look "around" an object, that is not what signifies true 3D. Having true 3D depth is what signifies 3D. This camera uses 3D in the exact same way that our eyes do. We see in 3D no more or less truthfully.
I really hope this camera will produce red/blue anaglyphs. That's all I ever wanted.
Even if it doesn't produce them for you, it will take two pictures that you can combine a tool like photoshop to make the anaglyphs.
@doelcm That ruins the fun...
HEY
links broke :(
this might be finding a way into my xmas stocking...
Can't wait for this. Been using 3D Camera on the iPhone and having a blast creating 3D stuff. I think it's the next evolution after HD.
I've posted some 2D samples from the Finepix W1. Very interesting to see the noise at ISO200. None of that noise is visible when viewing in 3D though.
